Apparently Shebby wanted him, I think a lot of it is people backed Shebby initially and now feel somehow justified In that after looking daft after some of his comments and doubting their initial judgement. for me unless he has stumped up the cash himself I don't see why he is worthy of ott praise for bringing a target in when backed with cash from the owners.

We should just be thankful Kean wasn't responsible for where the £8M went or else we'd have ended up with two more Portuguese no marks for a million each with huge agent fee's and a tidy profit towards his Algarve fund.

New Blackburn Rovers signing Jordan Rhodes believes he has joined the right club for the next stage of his development. The 22-year-old, who scored 40 goals for Huddersfield last season, completed an £8m move to Rovers yesterday.

"This is a Premier League club in everything but the status in the league," he said. "You only have to look at the players you sit next to in changing room. I see it as the next stage of my development. I am not the completed player by any means. I have come here to learn off the many internationals here, pick up a few tips from them and develop as player."

No mention of Kean? Good lad!

All those asking why we didn't spend the money last season, one of the reason that springs to mind for me is that the owners were naive enough to think there wasn't a serious chance of us getting relegated.

Ouch! The HTFC fans will be crying at those words, them being a bigger club than us and all that.

Exactly, Kean would have been constantly assuring them it couldn't possibly happen. And, of course, we had it from our ITK's that they didn't know about relegation anyway!

Good to see the regulars have been laying the groundwork for their "I told you he was crap" crowing later.

Not true, the board were very concerned last summer and anything barring relegation would have been deemed a success - mind you, not sure if that message was fully transferred back to the owners....

Also back then there was the view that money may be more freely available this summer, presume this ties in with the new banking arrangement.

Instead of excitement I got a shudder

I don't know whether Rhodes was a Team Shebby signing or not, but it is clear from this item on the Official Site that Team Kean has claimed the credit for it !

Below the photo of the grinning Kean and Shaw, it states that Shaw was 'instrumental' in the transfer. Shaw says that 'we are all indebted to Mrs Desai and her family' and 'that is where the credit is really due'.

Sounds like they are running scared now after their anti-Shebby PR initiative flopped. Won't be long before Shaw and Agnew are trying to switch horses I reckon

Mrs Desai and her family can take a running jump, we wouldn't have needed a lower league striker had they had any idea how to run a football club :angry2:

Rovers’ managing director Derek Shaw, instrumental in the record-breaking transfer, said: “An awful lot of work has gone into this deal and we are all indebted to Mrs Desai and her family for their magnificent support. From the very first day I walked in here, the owners have given superb backing for everything we are trying to do on and off the field. That is where the credit is really due."

He should be talking about Jordan Rhodes, not bum licking Mrs Deasi. Mrs Deasi is one of the reasons we got bloody relegated! you tit.

Has any striker ever been an unqualified success after a big money move from a lower division?

I keep thinking of the likes of Jon Macken, Jermaine Beckford and David Nugent.

(file under 'I told you he was crap')

Be interesting to know what the sell-on clause is........

The harsh reality is that if he DOES play well and bag a load of goals, Rhodes may only be with us for the rest of this season before a bigger premiership team comes sniffing round......

Should we win promotion though I dare say he would be tempted to stay.

Just spoke to a Burnley fan about him and he says Rhodes solely distroyed them last week and says he's well worth every penny so let's hope he's right. :)

 That file will be bulging pretty soon!

Given that we are ourselves now in a lower division, all three of those might have done a job for us in our current circumstances.

The Southampton strikeforce seemed to somehow bridge the Grand Canyon-like gulf between top of League 1 and the Championship

Jordan Rhodes, take us home, to the place, we belooooong, premier league, for Jack Walker, take us hoooome, jordan rhodes

I liked it but feel we should have something that rhymes with league, but there are so little things that rhyme with league, really hard part. everyone knows premier league is where we belong so maybe we can remove that sentence and add something else.

Suggestion:

Jordan Rhodes, take us home, to the place, we belooooong, despite steve kean, we will wiiiiin, take us hoooome, jordan rhodes

From all the fans I spoke to, that's bull. He did by all accounts have a decent game but we were frankly shockingly poor and it was that far more than anything Huddersfield did that cost us the game - in fact most people said Huddersfield looked distinctly ordinary whilst we looked very much non league.

Will Rhodes develop into an 8 million, allegedly 45k a week, striker? Who can say for sure but at this point he makes Rodriguez look a steal for Southampton and makes me think we should be touting Charlie Austin as a 10 million pound striker.

For what its worth, I do think he will do well at this level and should score at least 20 this season.
