Summer Transfer Window - Part 2

Dont hold your breathe...

Spot on.

I remember seeing Grabbi in an Ewood friendly curtain raiser and I went home wondering what substance I may have accidently inhaled if he was worth 7 or 8 million.

I think you could find someone as good as Edinho down at Pleasington on a Sunday morning. What I saw, albeit on streamed TV, on Saturday was very disappointing and it was the same at MKD's according to both reports and a couple of fans who went who I have spoken with.

Thirty odd years ago, I asked an 'old school' football scout what he looked for in a player. The most interesting bit was his view that a player could have a real stinker over 90 minutes but he would do at least one thing that would make him sit up and take notice. Didn't see that with Edinho.

I'm still worried someone will make an unexpected swoop for Givet. Less so if it was for Dann, but the fact remains that we have two central defenders that will be attractive for clubs on deadline day and are nowhere near any decent replacements for them.

To be honest we have done well in the transfer window. Murphy, Etuhu, Rhodes, Kazim-Richards and Best are all quality established signings for the Championship. Cant really argue with that. Actually arguably a better window than our last two transfer windows in the Premiership. Which is, in a way, a bit depressing.

That Rosado has been brought in as a creative player is a bit perplexing. We have quite a few of those already - Rochina, Formica, Dunn, Vukcevic can all play the in-the-hole role. All of them are on decent salaries. What exactly is so wrong with our scouting/managing that we need to sign a fifth player for this role?

For my money the squad to me looks good through the middle but real weaknesses on the wings of defence and midfield:-

Keepers:- Strong

Full backs:- Weak defensively, decent going forward.

Centrebacks :- Givet and Hanley good, Dann a total liability

Midfield:- Ettuhu and Murphy decent enough, anyone else terrible.

Wings:- Pedersen could do well in this league. Otherwise untested individuals like Nunes, and the bizarrely unplayable like Vukcevic.

Strikers: Strong.

We can't imo let these go so late in the window.

Givet

Robbo

Martin Olsson

Formica

Dann

Givet and Robbo have to stay. Not sure losing the other three will make much difference to be honest. Formica looks totally surplus to requirements, Dann is a liability and Olsson doesn't want to play for us.

Goodwillie has never really had a chance.

Firstly, he has never been really fit enough and that is down to the club's regime - under Hughes and then Sam, we had a very fit collection of players.

There is absolutely no doubt about it, he has the knack of being in the right place at the right time.

I think he will get a stack of goals if he moves to another Championship club. At a club like Blackpool, who service their forwards, he would be a 20 goal a season man.

Would be embarrassing if he outguns Rhodes in the goal stakes !

Pull the other one - Goodwillie is absolutely dreadful. Just like Grabbi you wonder if he had a doppleganger to score 20 odd goals in any League.

Dreadful, just like Kalinic !!!

IMO, Kean would reduce even Messi to mediocrity.

Goodwillie aint great but the lad has goals in him and I'd back him head to head with Rhodes. Goodwillie has scored goals at a higher level than Rhodes (SPL v Division 1).

Be funny if he ended up at The Turf !

BLACKBURN Rovers manager Steve Kean has admitted that there could be more transfer activity at Ewood Park before tonight's 11pm deadline.

Rovers yesterday completed their £8m record signing of striker Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield Town.

But there could still be further additions today, while Kean has hinted at this morning's pre-match press conference that one or two players may also leave.

Steven Nzonzi, Martin Olsson and David Goodwillie are among the names that may depart the club.

How many Portuguese players do we have now? 8? All top quality I'm sure. We've signed a lot of players, but how many of them are any good and proven at this level? Murphy, Etuhu, Best (whose done for the season). Gomes and Kazim-Richards?

Where's the money coming from to pay these players? Why was it not so forthcoming last year when we were still in the league? Have Venky's finally seen the light and realised that you have to spend money to progress? It all doesn't add up for me.

I'd be happy if things stayed as they were to be honest. It'll have still been a successful window for a Championship club. N'Zonzi can go but it'd be nice to keep hold of Olsson.

As for left wing we do have options. Marcus Olsson, Pedersen (though he's been playing more central recently of course), Martin Olsson (if he stops) and a few others who would be less effective who can play there such as Dunny. The back ups aren't great but they would be back ups primarily and we are in the Championship with quality players in other positions to compensate. Championship backups never tend to be superstars.

Venky's couldn't borrow any money from Barclays last season and this season they can from the Indian bank, according to Nixon.

WBA now talking to Popov as their talks over Olsson have reportedly hit deadlock.

Bad news for Rovers as history shows, frustrated players on the books just don't work.

Is Olsson that frustrated, or is it his agent making all the noise?

Hope we can hang on to him, he could be really sueful this season in launching a promotion push.

With the clown in charge we need to hang on to our best players, besides theres always January.

Dunny on the left wing  and let me tell you now Marcus Olsson will never make a footballer at this level as long as he's a hole in his arse, he's a terrible player.

As a back up only, behind two other players, in the Championship. It isn't the end of the world. And Marcus Olsson is perfect for this league. He is not terrible.

As for unsettled players, Samba worked for us for many years, and Formica's effort has never come into question.

It's his agent according to the ITK'ers on Twitter. Dahlin is his agent and believes he should be in the Premier League to stay in the Swedish squad.

LOL, totally agree, the only thing that Marcus Olsson can do is run fast..... and that's usually into the opposition where he then occasionally gets a lucky ricochet!
