JamieUK Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 When did MGP sign his most recent contract? If it was in line with the terms of Givet's and had a relegation wage drop clause then you'd think that money wasn't an issue... I'm torn - would like to see him stay but I think that's ruled by nostalgia. A move away would probably suit both parties - a fresh start for him, a kick up the arse and he'll be a decent Premier League player again. He's become stale at Rovers.

Silencio Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 petrovic was poor last season but has a bit of talent and i think would get it together in the championship. pedersen likewise but is expensive. selling all these players to fund rhodes wont get us up because the squad is being decimated day by day.
Miker Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I feel it might be a mistake to get rid of Pedersen. His set pieces have been a large contributor to our total assists and goals over the years and he would have been very useful in the Championship. He has gotten stale as a player though and hasn't impressed that much. If we are continuing to spend money then it's likely that Peds was seen as an ideal way to raise funds as he would attract interest and there have been concerns over his fading ability for the last few seasons. The rest I'm not fussed about. Petrovic was mediocre at best. I feel these are Shebby decisions and the players are being sold to fund other purchases. Raising money for the Rhodes deal maybe?
T.J.Newton Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Id rather just see Rado loaned out for a while to get some much needed regular 1st team football, preferably to another english club so he can get used to the pace more, not really assed about the others, Peds-been a great servant and had a couple of great seasons, scored some great goals but he's just to slow and lightweight these days, i thought Linganzi might of been able to do a decent job as a defensive mid at this level(but hey! kean knows best!).
Lhrover Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 id keep pedersen, hes loyal has stuck with us through thick and thin and he actually supports the club. plus doesn't the have like a lot of assists?
Stand & Deliver Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Jimbo will be heartbroken about ped. It's Kleenex time!

T.J.Newton Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 As for the argument you could have about the assists/goals from Morten's set pieces, i think its a little misleading when you consider that pedersen demands to take EVERY corner, free kick and throw in, so his average success rate of his set pieces leading to a goal or assist is probably tiny(I'm sure their is a stat geek out there thats going to prove me wrong on that though ) and also I'm not a fan of players being picked for their set pieces only as it just makes them a liability whilst the ball is in play.

He took our set pieces not because he demanded to, but because he was technically our best striker of a dead ball.

MarkBRFC71 Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 He took our set pieces not because he demanded to, but because he was technically our best striker of a dead ball. If that's true why did he never take penalties? I think he took all the set pieces through seniority and just because he always had done, not because he was the best. No one else got a look in to prove any different.
chaddyrovers Posted August 2, 2012 Author Posted August 2, 2012 I miss Pedersen who has been good for rovers but last season was awful alot of the time. will miss him but if he is not going to play better of selling. I expect him to move to Italy or Germany to play football. Petrovic can go. Hasn't been the player I thought he would be. Linganzi, Slew and Blackman can go for me. I would also expect Goodwillie to go if we get 2 strikers in. I still think Vukcevic will go aswell. Don't think he should be. If I was manager he would be starting games for me, but I don't think Kean will.
T.J.Newton Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Whatever. 1 of my favorite Oasis songs . Peds is prob 1 of the clubs highest earners aswell, so it would free up more money for new blood(for kean&co to drink!). Sorting Givets contract out should be just as big of a priority as selling/signing new players though.
Gav Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Morten tranfer listed? SHOCK HORROR - HIghest paid player on the books, just another cost cutting measure, great servant but not very good if we're honest, should have sold him to Spurs for 10m when we had the chance. KEAN OUT VENKYS OUT AGNEW OUT
Baz Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 So Nzonzi is being loaned out, we are selling linganzi, MGP and petrovic. Can you see the rest of the championship being scared of Murphy, Dunn and Lowe? Stupid decisions by stupid people. Anyone wonder why the timing is right after the st deadline?
Baz Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 anyone reckon these sales are to fund the move for rhodes? offload a few players to make up the money for rhodes' fee and wages? Possibly, but I'd like to see the stats on fees received and money spent since Venkys took over, I think we are still massively up.

He took the set pieces because every manager he played under thought the same.
roverandout Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 last season all he ever did was hit the first man most of the time, he has built his career on a few wonder goals which pundits and journalists are blinded by because they don't see the full games, he doesnt put in a shift either, cowers away when it comes to throwing his body on the line
patrickvalery Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 He took the set pieces because every manager he played under thought the same. In the kingdom of the blind the one eyed man is king. Good pro, sad to see him go. But not too much and not for too long. Loyal but no substance.
Salgado Is A Hero Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I like his free kicks from a wide position.....when he puts it into the space between the defenders and keeper.......his direct free kicks aren't as good and I expect one per season.....the one against Arsenal was very nice.....but my favourite will always be the one against Sheff Utd in the last minute to win 2-1........but his corners are shocking these days....barely beat the first man and when they do it was a shot anyway and the keeper comfortably claims.......give someone else a chance......Murphy, Dunn, Vukcevic, Rochina and Formica can all strike a ball and have taken set pieces in the past for other clubs.......I'm not a fan of having a player in the team just for his set pieces....especially when another player could take them instead with similar success as I'm sure they would.
T.J.Newton Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Possibly, but I'd like to see the stats on fees received and money spent since Venkys took over, I think we are still massively up. Sorry for correcting you but its The Venky's(and cohorts!) that are massively up not brfc("we").
Baz Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Sorry for correcting you but its The Venky's(and cohorts!) that are massively up not brfc("we"). Yes, sorry, that's what I meant.
OJRovers Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Guess we should expect players to be sold to fund the incoming players (plus the agents fees and Kean's cut) MGP is a true Rover and has the club at heart. His attitude to second to none, but unfortunately he has been terrible for a large proportion of the last 2/3 seasons. Yes, he gets a few assists, but that is not enough. I think the 50k a week could be put to better use. Blackman/linganzi - agreed they should go, not good enough Petro/Slew should be given the chance under a proper manager, they are still young and have potential. Although the Slew deal for £1m looks very strange if he isn't even going to be given a chance.
