sharpysharps Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Pleased with this. He won't pull any trees up but he'll be solid in the championship. Now get the Rhodes deal done and bring in a decent defender. Quote
Clitherover Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Less than 24 hours from topic starting to signing, not bad too Shebby. Lol, nice edit. I hope it is Singh making these signings, If it's Kean I can't see any chance of him going any time soon. Quote
S60tti_BRFC Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Jeeeeez, im all for this deal, but a 4 year deal when he's 30. The mind boggles. Quote
The Rover of Finland Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 That was fast. Four year for 30 year old sounds long. Quite happy with this. Quote
LeChuck Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 (edited) Jeeeeez, im all for this deal, but a 4 year deal when he's 30. The mind boggles. It's the only way we can attract people to this level I guess, same with Murphy getting a 2 year deal. He does bring something we haven't had for a long time. Murphy and Etuhu will probably be the strongest midfield in the division. If we can get a goalscorer in and a bit of backup in defence then we might just have a chance of promotion. At least he's not long turned 30. Edited August 3, 2012 by LeChuck Quote
Martin Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Four year deal is silly - but probably the only way we'll get him to sign. That said, Murphy and Etuhu should be as good as anything in the middle of the park in the championship. Quote
Backroom Tom Posted August 3, 2012 Backroom Posted August 3, 2012 Welcome to Rovers Dickson Annoyingly we now have a central midfield combo that would have served us well last season! Quote
Teacup Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Hanley, Dann, Etuhu and Murphy through the middle.. That is scary Quote
PAFELL Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Another player with a historical link to Kean. Etuhu has Never been consistantly good. Slight problem with that. Is I do not think they were at fulham the same time. Pretty good signing for the championship, Murphy maybe suggested him. Quote
S60tti_BRFC Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Hanley, Dann, Etuhu and Murphy through the middle.. That is scary I hope that part was the joke Quote
PAFELL Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Popping back since you are after another of our players! Etuhu was excellent next to Murphy whilst he was here and was a regular until this season. He often split opinions (no doubt you will have the 'he only makes 5 yard passes to Murphy argument on here soon enough) but he was part of Fulham's most successful team and was a crucial defensive player under Hodgson on our run to the Europa League final. He is easily a Prem player so him and Murphy should boss the midfield in the championship. Quite a squad you are building here guys, looks like we might see you back in the Prem sooner than most thought (maybe with Murphy as manager!) You may have a point with Murphy poss next manager. Though at the this moment in time, we would take anybody bar Kean to be the manager. Quote
Teacup Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I hope that part was the joke Oh come on, he had a rough season. Our midfield really didn't help him. Quote
davulsukur Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Hanley, Dann, Etuhu and Murphy through the middle.. That is scary Hanley, Givet, Etuhu and Murphy Looks much better IMO Quote
RevidgeBlue Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Very good signing imo. The only slight concern is the length of contract being handed out to players like him and Murphy, which reinforce the importance financially of returning to the Premiership inside two seasons at the outside. We have been saying for ages though haven't we, the need for more experience. You certainly can't accuse the owners of failing to back the manager though imo with six signings thus far, and three former Premiership players having been persuaded to step down a grade. Whether the manager is good enough to deliver - that's obviously a different question entirely. Quote

roverandout Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 good signing, is the type of player we lacked last season, someone who will get stuck in. Quote
tomphil Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I swear every club has this argument! FYI, it has been confirmed on our site: http://www.fulhamfc....Departures.aspx People never actually grasp the fact that certain players are often instructed to do that. Give simple short passes to try and retain a bit of possesion, it's bloody frustrating at times but if they tried to sidestep the player in front of them everytime and loose possesion we'd still moan i suppose lol Quote
danger19_80 Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Is there an African Cup Of Nations next year? Regular for Nigeria isn't he? Quote

IE Tugay. We now have a bit of balance in midfield, now a striker, player with pace and a defender and we should have a decent squad, the downside is Kean, but is he still the manager other than by name??? Aye and his options were pretty decent ! Lets hope that's Dicksons mantra as well. At least he has the physique for the championship and will offer Murphy an the back line some protection. As u said though coco will find a way of faffing it up no doubt. Quote

That's what the Real Madrid president said about Makelele before their downfall after they sold him......it's not often a defensive midfielder's job to make defence-splitting forward passes and I would have no problem if every pass he made this season was a 5 yard one to Murphy. Quote
Tom10K Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Good solid signing that could and should have been made while still a Premier League club, just add another defender and I'd be happy with this squad as automatic promotion candidates. If you add the manager into the equation we could almost make the playoffs.... Quote

It's something that just isn't in English football culture, and is derided on the terraces. It's why we always come up woefully short at international level, we simply don't have the possession retaining skills required. Quote
