thenodrog Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 AVB had the highest win % of any Spurs manager since 1899.....? Shouldn't that be 1999?

FGS5635 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Sherwood in temp charge. You just know he is somehow going to turn out to be the greatest manager of all time just to kean us off even more. Can just picture Shebby sat there stroking his cat in James Bond villan Stylee saying 'I knew it'
G Somerset Rover Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Spurs fans are so fickle, they get everything they deserve.
chaddyrovers Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I'm expecting Sherwood to get the Spurs Head coach job long term tbh. he has already by named in charge for Wednesday league cup game. this is Sherwood big chance to prove himself as a manager/head coach.
darrenrover Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Age old issue. Build a team round a strong spine. Spurs have a glass back with fancy dans round the edges.
RevidgeBlue Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 On Spurs, I've not seen them before this season but saw the Liverpool game and based purely on that match Soldado looked an absolute turkey. How much did they pay for him? 26m? The mind boggles. If Rhodes played like that the m/b would be in meltdown. Edit: on R2 they're suggesting the the 100m worth of signings weren't his but those of DOF Franco Baldini. Someone else commented that when Soldado was at Valencia and scored 24 goals the vast majority of those came from crosses from the flanks and that the way Spurs played yesterday with 5 midfielders left Soldado isolated. Shades of the argument over Rhodes over the last however many months.

Yep, interestingly from our point of view Sherwood and Les Ferdinand have been given temporary charge. I guess we'll soon find out if Shebby and ourselves actually missed out on the next managerial superstar in the making. Capello being linked to the permanent job, possibly due to ties with Baldini.
Backroom Tom Posted December 16, 2013 Backroom Posted December 16, 2013 Vincent Tan making himself popular again at Cardiff He's released a statement saying he's very unhappy about how Mackay overspent and how he said he hoped to bring in 3 new players In January. Tan has said not a single penny will be made available to him!

John Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 @wayneveysey: Tim Sherwood will be appointed next permanent #THFC manager if he impresses as interim boss. Job is his to lose. http://t.co/EOnqCh1xyL

RevidgeBlue Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Just said on the radio that according to the LMA Moyes is the 11th longest serving Premiership manager!!!
Salgado Is A Hero Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 If you take out Wenger, the average tenure of the premier league managers is about 13 months.
Guest Norbert Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Thing is, there is so much money at the top level, and there is so much pressure to get in the Premier League, that club owners/chairmen are quick to say "Right you've lost 4 games now, here's £5m as agreed in your contract to f_ck off." The ridiculous amounts of money weighted at the top of the top level encourages short term thinking and panic decisions. No manager can gradually build a team up, as Nigel Clough and Mark Hughes' careers show. It's all death or glory.,
Stuart Posted December 16, 2013 Author Posted December 16, 2013 No manager can gradually build a team up, as Nigel Clough and Mark Hughes' careers show. It's all death or glory., Sounds like Kean's agent's Brunei pitch.
RevidgeBlue Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 If you take out Wenger, the average tenure of the premier league managers is about 13 months. Conversely whilst the current situation seems overly trigger happy, I think Ferguson and Wenger are often wrongly cited as examples as to how you can only succeed if you're given a suitable length of time. The reason they succeeded was because they are great managers not because they've been there ten years etc. You leave the wrong man in charge for a prolonged period and the situation will generally only get worse. Additionally most managers seem to have a shelf life of 5-6 years even if they start off well. Those two are very much the exception that proves the rule.
Guest Norbert Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Sounds like Kean's agent's Brunei pitch. You know what I mean though. Our last season is a clear example of constant changes disrupting the squad, especially in a club that has a lot of players like Spurs (or us). One manager might want to build a team around player X, then the next might see the formation as more important.
LDRover Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Can't believe Spurs won't approach Klopp of Dortmund. If they've any intent on being title challengers surely they've got to go for him, he's one of the best out there. 100/1 on Betfair as well....
LDRover Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 They've just done 100 million in the transfer market. Dortmund will always be a feeder club to Bayern and maybe the CL final last year is as good as it gets for them, certainly after Lewandowski, Reus and Gundogan leave in the summer. Spurs are a big challenge for any manager and I think he'd be tempted. The 78000 Dortmund fans every week would be hard to leave but, like I wrote earlier, if Levy's serious about making Spurs successful he should go for the best out there. I rate Klopp as the best.
Salgado Is A Hero Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 He wouldn't, is the answer. From Hummels and Subotic to Michael Dawson. Spurs are nothing. The likes of Simeone, Klopp and Ancelotti (names Spurs fans have been suggesting ) wouldn't even consider it.
roversfan99 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 To be fair, he may think he's taken Dortmund as far as they can go, Bayern are only getting stronger and Lewandowski going there will make the gap bigger, and they've perhaps had their chance in the Champions League. Also Dawson is pretty crap yes but Vertonghen and Chiriches are their best defenders and Vertonghen in particular is better than Hummels and Subotic. Hummels is error prone and Subotic is nothing special.
Salgado Is A Hero Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 They're a top side, One who has won Champions Leagues before Klopp. They could certainly win it this season, I doubt anyone would surprised if they did. They can rebuild if more players leave in the summer like plenty of teams have done in the past. They've got massive support as well. Chiriches has played about four games for them to be fair, although he does look the part. Don't agree with your views on the other two. I was being facetious anyway. Spurs have just spent over 100 million. Takes them up to over 600 million since 1992. They've never come close to challenging for the title. They do have some European pedigree but not compared to the likes of Dortmund. They're in the Europa League, like they usually are, and to come top 4 they need to finish ahead of two from Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Utd and Liverpool. Why would a top manager take that job? How much more would they have to spend? Any top quality player they have would just be sold themselves if they didn't get top 4, like with Modric and Bale. I just don't like it when people think managers from top European sides will take lesser jobs in England, just because it's in the premier league. It stinks of arrogance to me. I've seen comments from West Brom fans saying they want Benitez. To be facetious again, from Higuain to Anichebe? It's ridiculous.
roversfan99 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I would be surprised, I think there are much stronger teams in Europe in Bayern, Barca, Real Madrid, then I would say Atletico Madrid and Man City are just behind them with PSG then Dortmund as favourites this year. I personally feel that Dortmund may be coming towards the end of a cycle, thats all I've said. They really miss Gundogan, Reus will be a wanted man and has a release clause, they won't find a proper replacement for Lewandowski and when he joins Bayern, Dortmund will really struggle to win the title again, which Klopp has already won more than once anyway. Maybe he will want something new. I think he might have accepted United if they had come in for him, as there he would get patience at a huge club and a completely new project and challenge. For me Tottenham should look at a more realistic manager like Pochettino or Laudrup, I don't think Sherwood or Hoddle is the answer, or Klinsmann for that matter, forget the emotional choices. I think Klopp wouldn't be interested so I agree there. I have noticed from your posts that you seem to overcompensate for people thinking the Premier League players and managers are better than they are, and in turn are doing the opposite to foreign players and managers. The Premier League is the best league in general, I think most people would agree in terms of quality throughout the league, for example if you made a bottom half team, or even a team from all but the top 4 from the Premier League, the Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga and played a tournament, for me the Prem Team would win it. The people you mention saying that Benitez should join WBA are clearly idiots. People who think things like that clearly don't know anything about football but I would hardly say thats a common view.
