M-K Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Spuds would probably pay him four times his current salary, and that's the only motivation anyone in football needs.

neekoy Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Hiddink would be my pick then Di Matteo, O'Neill or Mancini....I don't see Tottenham attracting anything better then them
roversfan99 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Tottenham are a bigger club than Swansea and Southampton, and Pochettino and Laudrup are very good managers. O'Neill is a poor manager, Mancini is just at Galatasary and Hiddink I think has the Dutch job lined up. Spurs isn't a bad job to have.
thenodrog Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Spurs are a big challenge for any manager and I think he'd be tempted. The 78000 Dortmund fans every week would be hard to leave but, like I wrote earlier, if Levy's serious about making Spurs successful he should go for the best out there. I rate Klopp as the best. 78000 or not the atmosphere must be a bit flat in that stadium on the weeks that Dortmund are playing away LD.
Audax Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 This is the leanest it has looked for available managers for a long time. Be very interesting to see whom comes in and fills these slots, I think I have a fair idea in one of the cases.
Audax Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 That's amazing that Everton have only one loss all year.
The Rover of Finland Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 A stupid move by Spurs. The game has really gone mad. They should have spent the sacking money on replacement for Dawson. The poor lad is even dreaming of getting selected for the World Cup.
Gally Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 A stupid move by Spurs. The game has really gone mad. They should have spent the sacking money on replacement for Dawson. The poor lad is even dreaming of getting selected for the World Cup. I think he's got half a chance. The drop in quality in English defenders in the last few years has been shocking, Cahill and Jagielka wouldn't have got anywhere near the squad 6-7 years ago.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I think he's got half a chance. The drop in quality in English defenders in the last few years has been shocking, Cahill and Jagielka wouldn't have got anywhere near the squad 6-7 years ago.I agree, there was a time when they wouldn't have got into the Rovers team at centre half, never mind England.Anyway happy days are here again at Spurs, Sherwood is temporarily in charge.
Giant Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Had to laugh listening to Alan Sugar saying that AVB had "wasted" the money Spurs got for Bale. He should have said Daniel Levy has wasted the money because he surely sanctioned the signings in the first place.
thenodrog Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 They should have spent the sacking money on replacement for Dawson. The poor lad is even dreaming of getting selected for the World Cup.Playing for a 'Big Club' he has every chance.... just ask the likes of Wellbeck, Oxelade Chamberlain, Smalling, etc and if they fail to convince you then try asking Crouch and Heskey.
jim mk2 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I think he's got half a chance. The drop in quality in English defenders in the last few years has been shocking, Cahill and Jagielka wouldn't have got anywhere near the squad 6-7 years ago. Cahill makes silly mistakes but don't agree about Jagielka who is an excellent defender and hardly puts a foot wrong. In the last international he did not waste one ball.
Gally Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Cahill makes silly mistakes but don't agree about Jagielka who is an excellent defender and hardly puts a foot wrong. In the last international he did not waste one ball. Certainly a good defender. Very good at club level and hasn't let anyone down for England. But when you consider a few years back England had the choice of Ferdinand, Terry, Campbell, Caragher, King and Woodgate all in their prime, the drop in quality with the current lot is frightening (Jones' potential aside)
speeeeeeedie Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I agree with you Gally. Circa 2000 we had a glut of good central defenders. If Woodgate and King would have stayed injury free they would have partnered each other for years, severely limiting John Terry's caps. They would have been brilliant together. Anyway, I think whoever gets the Spurs job has a tough task. They have too many lightweight play makers and not enough strikers.
Amo Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 I agree with you Gally. Circa 2000 we had a glut of good central defenders. If Woodgate and King would have stayed injury free they would have partnered each other for years, severely limiting John Terry's caps. Woodgate is the greatest CB England never had.
thenodrog Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Woodgate is the greatest CB England never had.Maybe it's just me but I've never really rated Woodgate very highly whenever I have seen him live. Mind you the same applies to Gerrard but lots of readers of popular newspapers regard him as a 'worldie'.
Guest Norbert Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 My Spurs friend is getting all optimistic about Sherwood turning out well. Oh dear, I seem to remember a similar situation about err.....3 years ago. It could get a bit messy.
davulsukur Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Be interesting to see how Sherwood does to be fair. After all the speculation with Rovers, be interested to see if we avoided another Singh disaster or potentially decent manager.
Salgado Is A Hero Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Adebayor is back in the team. He won't be fully fit but on the rare occasions he's on form, he's a really good player.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 He may do OK in the short term but my money is on a long term flop.
RevidgeBlue Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Bad start for Sherwood, 2-1 defeat to West Ham after leading 1-0 until near the end. You know you've got problems when they score 2 against you.
Backroom DE. Posted December 18, 2013 Backroom Posted December 18, 2013 I'll be shocked if Spurs fail to appoint a proper manager. With the amount of money already spent it really isn't wise to entrust the season to an amateur.
Oklahoma Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 It seems AVB didn't want 4 of the 7 signings of this summer: Nacer Chadli, Lamela, Eriksen and Chiriches. He wanted Moutinho, Hulk and David Villa but the director and the owner of Tottenham opted for other players... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2526099/Andre-Villas-Boas-wanted-sign-Hulk-David-Villa-Joao-Moutinho-Spurs-did-not-want-four-seven-summer-signings.html
donnermeat Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 I understand why he would want another striker or two but I can't think of any manager that wouldn't want Christian Eriksen in the squad, especially at that price.
roversfan99 Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 I assume with Moutinho that he would have played 4-3-3 with Hulk and Villa perhaps as wide forwards.
