thenodrog Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Moyes has to be the worst managerial appointment ever. I know there are a few other possible candidates for that title, but has anyone ever crashed the bus quite as emphatically as Moyes? Souness at Liverpool wasn't this bad, was he? Kin ell!!!! have you forgotten Steve Kean? We'd have been relegated that first season but for the skin of our teeth. And Moyes wont be making half as much money either! I doubt he'll emigrate to the tax haven that is Brunei when he moves on. Moyes might prove incompetent to manage MU but I don't have him down as being evil and motivated purely by greed.

Roverthechimp Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Watched MU on tv yesterday - they got what they deserved from the game and Moyes insistance that they played well and were incredibly unlucky is frankly unbelievable. What fascinates me the most is that i have watched them about 5 times this season and i have still to figure out what his tactical plan actually is while the lack of closing down and pressuring compared to any other team (in the prem) is shocking. So far his transfer dealings have been 64 million spent for a reserve midfielder (behind a 40 year old giggs, cleverly and phil jones) and a quality, creative attacking midfielder - who he plays wide left... He's not at Kean's level yet but he's definitely getting his badges....
Ricky Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 And as I said when they signed mata, he's not the player he needs if he's not going to play him through the middle. Pointless chucking him out on the wing.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted February 2, 2014 Moderation Lead Posted February 2, 2014 They need much more than just the one player. So many problems in that team, it's testament to how good Ferguson was that he got a title out of them last season.
Backroom DE. Posted February 2, 2014 Backroom Posted February 2, 2014 Or a testament to how pathetic the rest of the division was... probably a bit of both. It's not exactly any better now but Moyes is just a huge downgrade from Ferguson.
John Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Moyes currently looks and seems well out of his depth. There was always going to be a decline post Ferguson but this is pretty rapid. Their midfield is average but have been conceding goals all too easily this season.
yoda Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Yeah, he was our very own 'special one' but I think Moyes out-keans him. Rovers were always walking the tightrope after the trust pulled the plug, but Man U won the league by 11 points. Now they're five points off a Europa league place, and the club's whole rotten business model hinges on them being successful on the pitch. Moyes has to be the worst managerial appointment ever. I know there are a few other possible candidates for that title, but has anyone ever crashed the bus quite as emphatically as Moyes? Souness at Liverpool wasn't this bad, was he? He's taken on a team that absolutely cruised the league last season, that won five of the last seven titles, and he's turned them into mid-table mediocrity. Spending huge money on a player who can't play in their team (is Fellaini dead?), shipping out the previous manager's expensive young winger so he can continue to pick Young and Valencia, buying a showpiece midfielder when he's already got somebody in that exact position who he has no idea how to use... Most clubs would have sacked him, but somehow he gets given even more money to throw away. You are displaying some very un-natural tendencies M-K, you need to check the colour of your blood
M-K Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 You are displaying some very un-natural tendencies M-K, you need to check the colour of your blood What can I say, I like Man Utd, or at least I don't have that weird kind of blind hatred for them that most people do. They used to be entertaining. Moyes: "I don't know what we have to do to win." That's truly keanesque.

Tyrone Shoelaces Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Unbelievable! Mourhino is a rich mans Allardyce. His negative tactics are precisely why Abromovich binned him last time. It'd be interesting to see WHU and Chelsea swap managers! I remember Mourinho managed an Italian team versus Barcelona. They played exactly the same sot of game as Big Sam did the other night. Mourinho's a prick.

Amo Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Mourinho knows full well that he's employed similar spoiler tactics with better players than what West Ham have, but he's diverting attention away from a bad result at home by getting in a slanging match with the oppo manager. He knows how to play the media like a fiddle does Jose.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted February 2, 2014 Moderation Lead Posted February 2, 2014 That he may be, he would have had the mancs at the top or very near though I remember talking to some United fans about Mourinho, and they said they wouldn't have him there as the football would be too negative Bet they'd re-evaluate that statement right now!!
roversfan99 Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 -------------De Gea --------Jones Vidic Evans Valencia-----------------Evra --------Fellaini Carrick --------------Mata --------Rooney Van Persie I wonder if that formation would work for United with wing backs. Allowing the front 3 to all play central and playing an extra centre back.

Allowing the front 3 to all play central and playing an extra centre back. Fellaini isn't good enough to dominate centre midfield. He looks totally out of place in that team. You'd expect Moyes would know how to use him, but it seems his main attribute was holding the ball up and winning 50-50s in the air with Everton, in which case he should be playing where Mata is and they should be hoofing the ball towards him. His confidence must be shot to pieces.

He knows how to play the media like a fiddle does Jose. Exactly, that's what this is mainly about. That's why a lot of people like Jose. It also takes some pressure from his players, I'd expect Manchester City to handle them tomorrow but you never know, Chelsea might park the bus.
chris_h Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I do feel a bit sorry for Moyes but I cant let that spoil my enjoyment of Manyoo's demise. There has been a very large element amongst Manyoo's support which has marked them out as being even more cocky and arrogant than Spurs fans. The rise of City and the renaissance of Liverpool makes the Rag's fall from grace even more delicious. Any chants of 'You're only here to see United' these days?

If I was the TV company I'd pay big money to get Allardyce as a pundit tomorrow. btw Lest we forget, I've got to point out for the younger members and those of limited memory that Moyes performance as manager of Man Utd isn't a million miles away from Fergy's for the first few years of his tenure!!
jim mk2 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I'm looking forward to the City - Chelsea match. I've no great love for City but I'd love them to give Chelsea a good hiding - and then wait for Mourinho's excuses. City do have a habit of making a mess of things when it really matters however.
Ricky Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Interesting to see that Martinez has taken Everton up another level after taking over from Moyes. Made them much more attacking and better to watch.
M-K Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 btw Lest we forget, I've got to point out for the younger members and those of limited memory that Moyes performance as manager of Man Utd isn't a million miles away from Fergy's for the first few years of his tenure!! Wasn't it Mark Robins scoring in a cup replay at Oldham that saved Ferguson from the sack? Moyes has inherited a bigger club / better team than Ferguson did, though.
thenodrog Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Wasn't it Mark Robins scoring in a cup replay at Oldham that saved Ferguson from the sack? Moyes has inherited a bigger club / better team / bigger debt than Ferguson did, though. Edited it for you.
M-K Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Edited it for you. Indeed! Hasn't stopped him spaffing £27m on a midfielder he can't play, £37m on a more expensive version of a midfielder he's already got, and (supposedly) offering Wayne Rooney the keys to the kingdom. Ferguson seemed to manage okay within the constraints imposed by the parasitic owners.
thenodrog Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 quite right M-K. Even in the stupid football market those two shouldn't have added up to even 30m for the pair in truth. By paying so much for fairly average top half Prem players Moyes is just compounding his problems imo.
