Tyrone Shoelaces
Morrison is a big time charlie who will never make it, barring a huge change in attitude. There's a reason he was cut loose from United and is now gone from West Ham too, and agent issues are a very small piece of that puzzle. It's a shame because he has immense talent, but such poor application he is unlikely to amount to anything worthwhile. Correct, the kid's a waster. Backroom DE. Posted February 17, 2014 Backroom Share Posted February 17, 2014 Of course I don't. If it was a lie by Morrison then Big Sam should sue him for libel, because it's a pretty scandalous thing to accuse a manager of doing. A sacking offence, potentially. The Guardian would also be guilty for reprinting it, but given that the journalist and editor felt confident enough to publish it, I'd say there's no smoke without fire. People in football and in newspapers print rumours all the time, the courts would not have enough time in the day if libel suits were being thrown around based on media rumours. It's more a case of using anything as a stick to beat Allardyce with, as some just can't help themselves.

Guest Norbert
That would be something. I can imagine he'd be another Vincent Tan type, and will come up with all sorts of marketing stunts that would annoy the fans.

I am coming round to thinking I might even accept our being re named Blackburn @#/?s, if that was the price of being bought out by dedicated, ambitious ( and rich) owners. I am coming round to thinking I might even accept our being re named Blackburn keans, if that was the price of being bought out by dedicated, ambitious ( and rich) owners. OMG...that has been changed...lost the alliteration. Does the B word get changed to Kean automatically? I never realised

Gav
Rooney signs new £300k a week contract And he's worth EVERY penny. I tend to judge players on whether or not I'd go out of my way to watch them, and with Rooney I probably wouldn't go if it was free. He's not a bad player, but in my book he's not in the top 5 players in the world, probably not even in the top 10. Just another example of over inflated prices for English players. thenodrog
It's an insane move to sign him at 28 on that money for 5 years! Truth is he's on a downward curve so it's dead money. Money that they will never recoup by selling him. To employ some lateral thinking he is already nothing like the player that he was 5 years ago and that player was nothing like the player 5 years before that! If Rooney was 21 then I could maybe understand it but when I watch him now and especially off the ball he looks leaden footed and jaded in comparison. I must say Moyes had surprised me here. It just doesn't seem his style. Either a. he is desperate on a scale that I can't imagine. b. He is not making the decisions. (This is surely marketing/PR rather than a football based decision.) c. He is 'Agent Moyes' and has been sent in by person(s) unknown to bring the mighty Red Devils to their knees. I'd love it to be 'c' but I'm going for 'b'. Moyes needs the fans behind him and this might be a desperate measure to get them to support the worst Man Utd team of the last 20 years. Rooney promissed a lot when he was younger but he is no where near the best. Those wages are crazy for a player like him, but they already were before. He was the 5th best paid player in the world (or close to it) so any new contract would only make him earn more.
Backroom DE. Posted February 22, 2014 Backroom Share Posted February 22, 2014 Man Utd fans are mostly delighted by this, which I think shows how far they've fallen. A year ago I guarantee the majority of the fans would not have wanted Rooney re-signed on a 5 year £300k p/w contract. Moyes has already worn them down to the point where a declining player signing a ridiculous contract (both in length and amount) now celebrated
Amo
They know they can't attract/afford anyone better, and so Rooney and his agent have them over a barrel. Certainly shows how far their stock has fallen.
Tyrone Shoelaces
Nowhere near the player he was or the player he should have been. As quite a few have said, desperation move on Moye's part.
West Yorks Rover
He peaked at 18, been going downhill every year since ! Maybe something to do with him having a man's body at 15, who knows ?
Guest Norbert
Rooney's biggest problem is that he wants to do everything on the pitch, and now Man Utd are worse than they have been in years, he needs to do it. They need him tackling 30 yards from goal, closing down full backs etc. because the midfield is pretty poor, and the defence is not much better. So he is not attacking as much as he used to. What would be interesting if Moyes guides them to 2 successive failures to get in the top 4, and then Man Utd are stuck with Rooney earning that much money. I doubt even Man City would top those wages.

I think RVP is likely to go in the summer, and Rooney will be put into the striker position with Mata behind him. It'll be interesting to see if this limits Rooney's influence to the upper end of the pitch. Playing deep gives him license to pretty much go wherever he wants, but playing as a striker should lessen his influence on other areas of the pitch. Guest Norbert
I agree, he's probably better as a second striker or whatever you want to call it. If you're right, then Man Utd's midfield will struggle even more unless they throw money at a couple of top players.
Roverthechimp
Never been a fan of Steve Bruce but fair play - got them up and has made some extremely shrewd signings that will help keep them up. Cardiff - Malky must be having a bit of chuckle right now...
