Gav Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 City are a joke. Kompany was complaining about FFP in the Mirror yesterday apparently that's the reason City are having such a bad season. Nothing to do with the fact they're a group of spineless mercenaries, the majority of whom are grossly overpaid and overrated. £32M for Mangala can't blame that one on FFP, Vincent. I was just going to post the same myself DE. They're just thick these modern day millionaire footballers, thick as 2 short planks. If they're so worried about FFP why don;t they all take a 50% paycut to help City out

J*B Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 To be fair, they do have a point. City are in the green, yet because of financial fair play can "only" spend 49m. United are 400m in the red but can spend 150m in summer... How does that work?
Backroom DE. Posted April 12, 2015 Backroom Posted April 12, 2015 I was just going to post the same myself DE. They're just thick these modern day millionaire footballers, thick as 2 short planks. If they're so worried about FFP why don;t they all take a 50% paycut to help City out It's quite a big shift in perception from Kompany - before now he's not made any excuses, often admitted the team haven't been good enough and should be better. He's actually quite an intelligent bloke - studying business at university IIRC. For me it's a show of desperation, and also an attempt to hide his own very poor form this season. A bit cowardly, which sums up City at the moment in general. They can't deal with being under the cosh and they don't have a manager to fire a rocket up their backsides when needed - which this season has been a lot. No question now that Pelligrini will be out the door in the summer. To be fair, they do have a point. City are in the green, yet because of financial fair play can "only" spend 49m. United are 400m in the red but can spend 150m in summer... How does that work? He may have a point on FFP, but Chelsea are operating under the same restrictions so how does Kompany explain such a gulf in performance levels between the two? Arsenal don't spend massive amounts either and they're also way ahead of City at the moment.
J*B Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 It's not really about Chelsea and Arsenal though - the fact that United can be -400,000,000,000.00 (looks crazy written out!) in debt, but can still spend 150,000,000,000.00 just isn't fair. The rule clearly doesnt work.
thenodrog Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Yay Toure has been woeful too. He must be eyeing his lucrative Middle East move at the end of the season. And it's coming up to his birthday. Gary Neville just made a decent point about FFP constraining the likes of City, Chelsea and Blackburn from ever challenging the big clubs and turning the Prem into a La Liga copy where only 2 clubs ever have a chance.

He's spot on. But considering the amounts of cash City of splashed over the past few seasons they have no room to complain at this point. In a few years, if their £200k a week stars have gone and they're back in mid-table, maybe. Right now they have a very expensive team that is failing badly, and FFP has nothing to do with that

I doubt it would pan out like that but if the arabs buggered off city couldn't pay the wages the next month. FFP is there for a reason and arguments can be made from both sides.
Backroom DE. Posted April 12, 2015 Backroom Posted April 12, 2015 City should look at the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal if they want to see how a club is run within their means and still able to be competitive. Chelsea had a 37 year old playing up front today ffs, and still won and are still top of the league by some distance. Astute management and a smart transfer policy will work just fine for the likes of City, Chelsea and Arsenal. City have just been extremely short-sighted in their approach. It's the smaller teams that have a right to complain about FFP, not Manchester @#/? City.

thenodrog Posted April 12, 2015 Posted April 12, 2015 Presumably it's to stop clubs blowing their brains out as leeds did. Makes some sense yoda. Another lump of media money into the prem will just end up handed out to the players and their agents. It's a money pit and must somehow be regulated to work for the good of the game and it's supporters.

thenodrog Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 How? European employment law gets in the way of that doesn't it?

Gav Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Newcastle fans have boycotted the Liverpool away game tonight in protest at the £50 admission price for away fans. The club only took up 800 tickets and as of yesterday they still had some left. With all the money being thrown at players and agents its ludicrous fans are being fleeced in this way, something has to change because football without fans isn't football. Good on you Newcastle fans.
Backroom Tom Posted April 13, 2015 Backroom Posted April 13, 2015 Newcastle just had the most obvious penalty in history not given
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted April 22, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted April 22, 2015 Good on West Ham-http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/west-ham-set-reduce-season-5562810
donnermeat Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 That's a great move from West Ham, I wouldn't have expected that from the porn barons. Refreshing to see.

With all the money being thrown at players and agents its ludicrous fans are being fleeced in this way, something has to change because football without fans isn't football. Good on you Newcastle fans. Fully agree and I do not blame them. The practice of ripping away fans off has to stop. At least there appears to be growing momentum in this area. (It could be argued it was easy to boycott that fixture the run they are (not) enjoying). Good on West Ham-http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/west-ham-set-reduce-season-5562810 They have put prices up for next year apparently, but then reduced them for 2016 when the additional TV money kicks in. With one eye on filling their new stadium, their proactive approach to fan attendance may pay dividends. £299.00 for PL football in London is cheap. However, the failure to renew Big Sams contract and uncertainty created may have an adverse effect on morale and with only two wins from the last eleven played, they have plummeted from from fourth to mid-table. The vultures are now circling for the left back, centre half and defensive midfielder and should they lose Allardyce these players and others may well decide to scarper as well. Allardyce has done a good job there. Exactly what it said on the tin. Got them up, kept them up, got them into the top 10. Fan power may well call time on his reign their and I think Gold also has a bee in his bonnet about Allardyce, but I would advise them to tread warily and if dumping Big Sam recruit very very carefully going forward. It can all quickly unravel and playing in front of a half empty Olympic Stadium would be a soulless and expensive experience for them.
West Yorks Rover Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Well done to WHU but I reckon they'd better keep Big Sam, to make sure they are still in the Premier Lge when they move to their new stadium, with him, it's a certainty. I reckon Man City will be reducing their prices too, when their stadium capacity increases to 61,000.
Audax Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 4 straight wins for Leicester City with Pearson managing, 12 points, can't ask for more than that to really turn them around. I'd be worried if I were Sunderland though they did manage a draw today. And probably tougher matches remaining. 5 matches left.
roverandout Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Burnley and QPR almost down, hope Newcastle are the third
