Tony Pulis says he will be forever grateful to Sam Allardyce for tipping him off about Steven Nzonzi.

He said: Stevens a better player than I thought. He has great attributes, he is exceptionally good in the air and, technically, hes excellent. The kids been great for us and Sams advice to sign him is certainly one of the better pieces Ive received.

No suprise there at all. N'Zonzi is a good player. He and Jermaine Jones were magnificent in the spring of 2011. The current farcical midfield situation just highlights the quality we have lost and brings into sharp focus the judgement of some on here who didn't rate his ability.

Surely Arsenal should sack Wenger at the end of the season and bring in someone who has fresh ideas and isn't worn down by the mind games. Not that they will of course. The board are happy with a battle for 4th place, and the occaisional big money sale. The fans however will really turn if they don't win something next season. I hope they organise marches etc. so Paul Merson can call them idiots and scum ;).

No, if the Arsenal fans organised protests it'd be for "the good of the club" and "the exploited fans fighting the evil board". Rovers fans are dirty Northern barbarians, Arsenal fans are refined Southern gentlemen. Didn't you know?

Yep, got it in one DE. I would be interested in what that alcky sniffhead thought should such a situation arise. Not that it'll be this season, as the fans seem divided with a majority still believing Wenger can turn it around. He can't, but Arsenal fans seem so sentimental about the guy even though he's been shattered by the press, Fergie, Mourinho etc.

Rubbish decision that spoilt what should have been a fantastic match.

Once again all the post-match talk is about the referee and not about the players or the goals or the match.

If the laws say Nani's challenge is a red card (which it wasn't) the laws should be re-written.

Oh, and a message to Alf: this isn't a pro-United post - just a neutral observer sick of big occasions being ruined by referees.

He's not there to deliver a good game for the neutral. He's there to enforce the rules. Nani's foot was high, studs-up and potentially injurious. It was foul play and by the letter of the law he had to go.

Sorry, but that's never a red card. He's going to win the ball, only has eyes on the ball and two players competing happen to make contact. This is a contact sport and if you want to make that a sending off then we may as well put in a rule now that your foot is not allowed above your waist under any circumstances. It was barely a booking, let alone a red and the disbelief from all the players was clear.

I'll support pretty much any English side in Europe and I really don't like seeing Real and Barcelona doing well and United were very hard done by tonight. They almost certainly would have gone through not for the red card and it was a horrible decision. Imagine if something similar happens this Sunday? No one on here would be saying that Lowe or Rhodes should be off because they lifted their foot high in an attempt to control the ball.

The comparison is what happened in the 2010 World Cup final and the two incidents look drastically different. Intent matters when you officiate and the referee has made a major mistake that should rule him out of officiating any European games in the future...not that it will.

Look at the reply slowly eyes on the ball foot outstretched to control the bal. Arbeloa comes running and nani bends his foot slightly with emphasis. Now could be a coincidence but I'm not sure.

To say utd would have gone through if hadn't gone is silly. Madrid found it hard but as man city found out you can give them a slight chance.

Got a load of abuse from someone I thought was a friend because I made one cheeky comment about Man Utd fans complaining about referees last night. These 'big club' fans dish out the 'banter' but they can't take it can they?

Since that immature pillock was from Devon, he was probably put off after spending hours in his shellsuit pointing at the moon making confused grunting noises the past few nights and therefore hadn't had much sleep.

A good referee would want to deliver a good game and not be the centre of attention or the talking point. One again we have a match in which an attention-seeking referee has become the focus instead of a match between two of the best sides in the world.

People are saying this sort of thing only strengthens the argument for video refs, many citing RL as an example. That last night wouldn't have gone to the vid ref, he might have given an opinion in the refs lug hole but it certainly wouldn't have been his decision.
