M-K Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Even Rovers??? Traitor Last season we were going down from day one anyway but we "cost them the title" by having our "cup final" at Old Trafford. According to my wife, any time a team goes to Old Trafford and doesn't get steamrollered, it's because they're treating the match like a cup final - the biggest occasion in the lives of most of the players, staff and fans. That applies to the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal as much as it does to West Brom or Stoke. She's deadly serious about it. She insists that Man Utd have it much tougher than any other side because lesser teams like QPR, Fulham and Real Madrid always raise their game against them.

Backroom Mike E Posted March 7, 2013 Backroom Posted March 7, 2013 Well she's right to a degree, but the reason teams do that is because Utd are so much better than the chasing pack. Even better than big spenders Chelsea and Citeh. Imo, when Utd DON'T win it's more due to a drop in standards. They've usually played very poorly when they lose. Even playing poorly they tend to win, so tell your wife I disagree
adopted scouser Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21699901 Very few top players survive from the chop from SAF - especially in their biggest game of the season. Does Man. City beckon for Shrek now? After all, 'once a Blue'... Pretty sure he's the only player to hold Fergie to ransom, don't know how he got away with that

thenodrog Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 It was dangerous play, that's why he was sent off, lets not forget that the referee gave himself plenty of time to think, most likely also had a word with his assistant too. Plus Nani has no need to have his studs showing, If he was to actually control the ball the way he tried it would of just bounced back at him and killed the counter, not something he should be trying to do. Go on then Daz I'm baffled so can you tell us how you can stretch out your leg to control a ball like that without showing your studs? Wouldn't you be better employed leading a campaign to ban studs? What happened the other night was a collision. Nothing more and nothing less. It happens in most sports when individual decisions made at speed turn out to be the wrong ones. A good referee would recognise that. A bad one wouldn't.
forumquizmaster Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 How many times have you seen a game spoiled by a sending off ? I've seen plenty. The game's you're playing at home and the opposition are having a go, then they get a man sent off and all of a sudden they have ten men behind the ball and an end to end game becomes a slog. Like the Villa v Rovers game in the cup a while ago. It was a great game until Samba gave away a pen and got sent off or the game v the Red Rats when Berg also gave away a pen and got sent off. I don't disagree with the general point you're making at all, but both of the games you've used as examples here were viewed as classics by neutrals, so it could be argued that the sending off didn't spoil the game per se, but it certainly did do for us Rovers fans, on both occasions. The Berg one was ridiculous.

Does Man. City beckon for Shrek now? After all, 'once a Blue'... I think the media are making more out of this than there actually is. Sure, Shrek would have been brassed off at being left out, but it was for a very specific tactical reason, which was to get United's more pacey players cutting off the supply line to Ronaldo, particularly in relation to Alonso. It was working too, in fairness, until the red card. Rooney and Van Persie are the main reasons why United are so far clear in the league.
thenodrog Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 L Last season we were going down from day one anyway but we "cost them the title" by having our "cup final" at Old Trafford. All I can say is that she must have kept all that quiet till after the wedding!
thenodrog Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Pretty sure he's the only player to hold Fergie to ransom, don't know how he got away with that Seems he hasn't. Ever heard the term 'don't get mad get even' Nick? How about 'revenge is a dish best served cold'. As with Ronaldo and Beckham Fergy will not sell a player until he can do it without him and the club losing face. It HAS to be seen to be his decision and not the decision of either the other club, the player or most of all the player's agent. imo Rooney is still a fine player but his 'worldie' days are behind him. If he stays any longer he will devalue in ability and no doubt his contrcat will wind down too plus I'd imagine Fergy will have a home for Rooney's fee already.
thenodrog Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 FA Cup 34 mins in and 3 goals in 3 mins for Wigan. Lots of Everton fans heading home.
Backroom DE. Posted March 9, 2013 Backroom Posted March 9, 2013 Can't see Moyes staying there past the end of this season.
adopted scouser Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 FA Cup 34 mins in and 3 goals in 3 mins for Wigan. Lots of Everton fans heading home. 30, 32 and 33. What happened ?? Son in law will be ranting
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 What happened ? Wigan played well and Everton never got going. Wigan had everything we haven't. A method of playing and a game plan that suits their playing staff. A striker who will work the channels and hold up the ball before bring supporting players into the game. Pace on the flanks, craft, graft and a goal scoring presence in midfield. Determination and concentration at the back. Well deserved win, Everton looked like big time Charlie's.
Backroom DE. Posted March 9, 2013 Backroom Posted March 9, 2013 It's about that time in the season where Wigan's players decide to start playing like a top 10 team, to be fair.
Backroom DE. Posted March 9, 2013 Backroom Posted March 9, 2013 I reckon Sunderland could be the "surprise" team to be pulled into the relegation battle this season. One of the poorer teams in the division, only 6 points off the relegation zone and currently losing to the team bottom of the division.

RevidgeBlue Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 The 'Arry love in with the media will be quite nauseating if he pulls off the great escape. To think we had an interview with, or were interviewed by, his representatives and ended up with errrr.............. Michael Appleton.
Backroom DE. Posted March 9, 2013 Backroom Posted March 9, 2013 Get the feeling QPR will escape. Reading definitely going down, think Southampton will end up in the drop zone and then it's one of Wigan, QPR, Villa and Sunderland for the last place.

Reads like Sunderland are to the Prem what we are to the Championship.
Backroom DE. Posted March 9, 2013 Backroom Posted March 9, 2013 In our defence 'Drog, we usually manage to scrape past the very weakest teams. We just lose against everybody else.
RevidgeBlue Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 McDermott sacked by Reading. Always looked completely overawed and out of his depth in his pre/post match interviews. Difficult job for anyone going in to keep them up now though.
Backroom DE. Posted March 11, 2013 Backroom Posted March 11, 2013 I mentioned to a mate at the weekend that they're the only club I'm 100% will go down. I don't think a change of manager will alter that - my guess is that they bring in Adkins.

jim mk2 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Did a great job last season to take Reading up. He's another baldie - next Rovers manager ?
