Can you elaborate a little Toppers? I may be reading it wrong, but I don't follow.

'Imply' is when something is suggested by someone without being explicitly stated.

'Infer' is what you conclude based on that implication.

The other player's in hospital ffs, his scream was perfectly audible and McManamam's studs were up at knee height, one of the most dangerous places to connect with a "tackle" like that.

Wigan should fine him for reckless endangerment and ban him for three games themselves.

Tackling should remain in the game 100% but that wasn't a tackle.

I'm not defending the incident at all but most of em scream like stuck pigs these days. One can hear shrill girly shrieks during evry match. It works too.... the louder they scream the more chance there is of getting their opponent booked.

One thing that referees need to take into account is that a lot of 'offences' are in fact collisions which occur largely because of the speed of the game. Unfortunately they have a habit of waving the card at either the player

a. who is least hurt.

b. who was not in possession of the ball.

c. Failing the first two then the default victim is the away player.

That's my main gripe here. If the FA stepped in and issued a retrospective (and correct) red card and 3 game ban, the whole thing would be forgotten about and it'd be confined to 'HORROR TACKLEZ LOLZ' on YouTube.

All this reminds me of the ridiculous vilification by the massed ranks of the press and media of Andy Todd when Robin Van Persie ran into him at the Millenium stadium. Cos the contact was head to elbow and RVP obviously came off worst I still meet daft buggers who have totally convinced themselves simply through said media indoctrination that Todd was actually the aggressor and actually elbowed him!

Needless to say after viewing the video evidence from an in line camera the FA quite rightly took no further action against Todd.

btw speaking of press manipulation by the big clubs...... Have I missed it or has there been no comment on Rio Ferdinand showing his true colours regarding playing for England? Bentley and Sutton were demonised whilst that ballbag (no doubt under the control of the MU PR machine) seems to have comfortably manipulated the situation to discredit both Hodgson and England.

I wondered that too Thenodrog. I'd never pick him again, and publicly say it if I was manager. Hodgson is just too nice for that though. The excuse about having a specific training regime because of his back doesn't wash with me. England's physios could have sorted that out, and sitting in a plane for 6 hours probably wasn't a good idea.

Rio is a gormless looking prick, and shouln't be called up again.

Little known fact - Rio Ferdinand's upper lip is actually made out of plasticene.

Actually Gordon, lots of media folk have had a go at him, especially since it came out that he was doing the co-commentary and that included a 15 hour round trip to wherever. there was quite a lot of sympathy for him at first but yesterday there was a substantial amount of media anger directed at him. Personally i think, regardless of what has happened in the past, if he hadn't said he woudld be available then he should have got himslef there and done what he's supposed to do for a living - play football for club, and if called to do so, for country too. In fact, the only people I've heard defend him were some ex-pros, and people like Alan Brazil, who had to give up football at the age of 27 because of back problems, were saying it was a disgrace and he should get himself playing for England.

Just reading about Scotland v Wales, although Hanley got the Scots goal from a corner he was a partly at fault for one of the Welsh goals. My paper describes his performance as - " an accident waiting to happen in defence ".

From what I saw he was dominating Bellamy throughout

Yea he was a bit of a bombscare tbh. Needlessly giving the ball away in his own half. He wasn't the only one though, we have a few decent technical players coming through but those are ignored for duds who play in the English Premier League like Dorrans and McCarthur and we obviously don't do much work on trying to retain possession.

But yea, he did alright against Bellamy. A couple of times he went right through him, perfectly getting the ball and the man, and he would also cleverly drop off him sometimes so he wouldn't get caught by his pace in behind, which enabled him to make the interception.

Their first goal was a penalty that Snodgrass gave away, their second came from a cross into the box in which neither he or Caldwell picked up Robson-Kanu. One of them should have picked him up but when things like that are happening, the manager should be partly at fault imo. Good managers make sure things like that never happen.

I shouldn't be suprised. Allardyce represents the safest pair of hands in the business and the last thing WHU can afford to happen now that the Olympic Stadium has been donated to them is relegation.

Much as I'd like I can't even begin to imagine that the Porn Brothers are as incompetent as the Slumdog Millionares that it is our misfortune to have come across.

Just flicked on Sky Sports 4, they're showing Premier League Years 1992-93. As I switched on Shearer was just nodding home in the 7-1 defeat of Norwich.

Whatever happens in the next few years, you've got to be grateful for what we had. Few are as lucky.
