Backroom DE. Posted June 2, 2013 Backroom Posted June 2, 2013 I doubt he'll go for that price Paul. Other clubs know he's damaged goods and is trying to force his way out of Liverpool - the advantage is with the buying club/Suarez. I reckon he'll go for something between £20-30M.

thenodrog Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Sometimes, sadly more frequently these days, the Premier league makes me want to vomit. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/may/31/luis-suarez-liverpool-transfer-uruguay £50m for Suarez. I've absolute no doubt Liverpool will ensure the money goes towards developing the longterm future of the club. Says 50m would be a club record for Lpool.... I thought thats what they got off Chelsea for Torres?

Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted June 2, 2013 Moderation Lead Posted June 2, 2013 Can't you read? Sure he can, it was written wrongly if it reckons £50 million for Suarez would be their record sale, when that's exactly how much Torres was sold for??

Salgado Is A Hero Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 "£50m-plus" "Liverpool want in excess of their fee for Fernando Torres" "Liverpool will consider selling Luis Suárez but only for a club-record fee of more than £50m."
Batman. Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Best to ignore him K-Hod. If brains were dynamite he wouldn't have enough to blow his cap off. See Salgado's post.

davulsukur Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Mourinho, who will be officially presented in a press conference at Stamford Bridge next Monday, 10 June, brings three coaching staff with him in Rui Faria, Silvino Louro and Jose Morais. What? No wee Stevie Kean?

thenodrog Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Just my opinion but I feel that Martinez is due a fall. He's gobbing off boldly about getting Everton into the top 4. Strange that a much better manager than him never quite managed that achievement isn't it? Moyes success at Everton was largely down to him instilling his never say die attitude into his players which contributed to them regularly over achieving. He created a bloody minded, siege mentality within the team which imo Martinez is simply not capable of. Time will tell but if things turn sour within the squad as well they might well do then his ability to motivate will be found out pdq.
J*B Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Martinez is a myth. His highest league finish is 15th, he simply replicated the job that other managers such as Bruce did at Wigan for most seasons. Last season he sent them down (something I don't see them ever coming back from), and, granted won the FA Cup... Against a City side that didn't turn up nor like there manager. If Everton finish 10th ill be impressed.

If Everton finish 10th ill be impressed. That will be largely down to Dave Whelan's intention. He does usually say and do the right things and knows football inside out. Not everybodies cup of tea on a personal basis(I believe) but I must say I'd have him as our Chairman without a second thought.

Steve Bruce and Paul Jewel managed to keep them up with Whelan there though?
Salgado Is A Hero Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 From memory, they used to come mid-table sometimes before Martinez. He's lost a lot of his best players but.... He's not anything special imo. He certainly won't get them to finish in the top 4.
Majiball Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Did Brucie not get them 11th once? Sun was defo shining on the dogs arse that season.
Backroom DE. Posted June 6, 2013 Backroom Posted June 6, 2013 Was speaking to a couple of Evertonians at work today and neither was ecstatic about Martinez joining. Their main concern is that their squad won't suit Martinez's style of play and he won't have the money to buy the players he needs to make it work - in essence, not a whole lot difference to how it was for Martinez at Wigan, and they have higher expectations than a relegation dogfight every year. Whether they should is another question entirely.
LeChuck Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 City spend £30 million on a 28 year old Brazilian who has spent the last 8 years in Ukraine? That's only going to end one way. Can't see City challenging next year at this rate.
Gally Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 From memory, they used to come mid-table sometimes before Martinez. He's lost a lot of his best players but.... He's not anything special imo. He certainly won't get them to finish in the top 4. They arguably had a much stronger squad under Bruce. They had Valencia for a kick off, and I seem to remember Heskey and Zaki being a blinder of a partnership for most of that season. The stock of Cattermole and Palacios was pretty high back then too. Martinez seems like he has a genuine talent for team building, he takes players who have failed previously (or not been given achance) and knows exactly where they fit into his system. The top 4 is probably out of reach for the time being, but if they persevere with him I think he'll be a very, very good manager.

If Everton finish 10th ill be impressed. I agree about Martinez and his hugely inflated reputation. I would also question his loyalty. Whelan publically backed him through a few bad spells when the fans turned the heat up and wanted him sacked. The 9-0 drubbing at Spurs is a good example of this. As soon as they are relegated he jumps ship. I recall he left Swansea in similar circumstances although it didn't involve a relegation. I'll give him until the New Year until the Evertonians turn on him if they don't get a really good start.

LeChuck Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Only 5 caps for a £30million 28 year old as well. I was thinking that. Brazil are hardly swamped with defensive midfielders either. Plenty of little known players with more caps than him.

Or properly compensating the residents of Anfield whose neighbourhood has been blighted by LFC's on/off stadium redevelopment plans.

To be fair, I don't think he sounded as though he was 'gobbing off' and that wouldn't be his style. He did state that a club of Everton's stature should aim for the top four which I think is fair enough if unrealistic. I like Martinez but I fear for him at Everton as they dont seem a good fit to me for some reason. Lots of Everton fans seemed to want Alan Stubbs and Duncan Ferguson to step up and I can see how that might work better for them.
blue_n_white99 Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Koscielny only on the bench for France against Brazil, with the season he's just had would have expected him to start. City's new signing hasn't even made the Brazil bench, is he injured?
