Koscielny only on the bench for France against Brazil, with the season he's just had would have expected him to start.

City's new signing hasn't even made the Brazil bench, is he injured?

Don't think he's a regular starter, he's only got 5 caps and the last of those was last year...

Is coutinho not anywhere near that squad??

You'd have thought he should be, given his performances towards the end of the season, and Brazil's clear lack if depth in that position!

Do you rate him yea? I was genuinely expecting you to say "do you not think he's worth less than that" as I was reading that. 5/6 million with a year left I'd say. Good on his day but the number of bad days outweighs the good ones. And when he's bad, he's often atrocious.

They need to get rid of Anderson as well.

If Anderson actually put in the effort he'd be an awesome player. Unfortunately like many Brazilians his laziness will mean he never reaches his full potential. Utd will probably keep hold of him though as he's a decent player to have in the squad.

I know what you are saying but in relative terms for a seasoned attacking international it would seem to be on the cheap side, particularly when you think Citeh!!!! have just paid £30M for a bloke who doesn't get many games at all for Brazil. You are right he can be atrocious, but he can also be unplayable when he can be arsed.

That Schurrle may have thrown away his career. He looks to be going to Chelsea, and if he is not careful he could disappear like many of these hot youngsters. Mind you Man City are worse for that now they have given up on the youth system.

I agree about Martinez and his hugely inflated reputation. I would also question his loyalty. Whelan publically backed him through a few bad spells when the fans turned the heat up and wanted him sacked. The 9-0 drubbing at Spurs is a good example of this. As soon as they are relegated he jumps ship. I recall he left Swansea in similar circumstances although it didn't involve a relegation. I'll give him until the New Year until the Evertonians turn on him if they don't get a really good start.

Martinez have turned down moves to both Villa and Liverpool the last two seasons, so you would be severely mistaken in questioning his loyalty. I do however agree that his prefered style of play seems like a bad fit for Everton's current squad.

I mentioned him leaving after they had been relegated and Whelan was desperate for him to stay. In my book that is enough evidence to question his loyalty.

In fairness loyalty appears to work less with football clubs and their managers than with players and BOTH ways too. Whelan has shown splendid loyalty to Martinez and vice versa which is mightily refreshing in modern football but there comes a time when it is right to move on in the interests of ambition, career and family. Who knows in a few years he might be hoping to get the Man U gig given the example set by his predecessor at Everton.

btw Do you consider Moyes to be disloyal? He's done well for PNE and Everton but he's dumped them when the time was right for him to take a step up.

Obviously he is either really cheap or the Killie chairman thought he was hard done by last season.He/she didn't go for dignity and interview Kean then.

I know its not premierleague but couldn't find anywhere else to post it but henning berg has had an interview for the Kilmarnock job

I've thought for a while this thread should really just be called "other football happenings", rather than limited to the premier league which we're not even a part of anymore.

Joe Kinnear is appointed as Director of Football at Newcastle and will have final say on transfers but did say he will work with Carr and Pardew and listen to them on players.

wonder if Newcastle/Ashley is trying to force Pardew out cos he still as 6 or 7 years left on a contract and not pay his any compo?

or did Pardew want a DoF to come in to help him on transfers and communicating to Ashley and MD?

Another seemingly bonkers knee jerk move by Ashley. It seems he just wants to annoy the barcode fans. What better way than bring in a previous manager who was over the hill and a dinosaur when he managed a few years ago. It makes no sense having A clapped out has been as D of F.

One day these mad decisions will come back and bite Ashley on the bum.

Kinner comes across very car salesman like. In this article on the BBC he defends his managerial record and accusing people of talking rubbish about him:

"We were third from bottom when I took over and we were 12th when I had my heart attack. From there we got relegated. People were trying to implicate me when the club went down. That was a load of rubbish. I've
never been a manager of a club that's been relegated"

The article itself even corrects Kinnear, who says he's never been relegated, by saying he was with Luton. When he left Nottingham Forest they were 22nd and they went on to the relegated, and his record at Newcastle that he references is a Kean-esque 5 wins in 26 games.

It's obviously not his record that has Ashley in his pocket so he must be good at selling himself. Quite obviously he had a huge part in three relegations there. And that's the most recent stuff on his CV!

Added to which is all the guff about not interfering in team selection or tactics. He hasn't quite understood that the players you recruit and have at your disposal are linked to that.

What if Pardew thinks a player is good but Kinnear doesn't rate him - does he get sold or does he stay?

What if Pardew wants to play one style and Kinnear recruits players unsuited to that style?

This really hasn't been thought through well at all, unless they're trying to force Pardew out. Mind you Kinnear comes across as pretty clueless and arrogant so maybe his role isn't as powerful/influential as he is spouting.
