Kinnear: I've never been sacked in my life. So you know, look at my record, they keep saying to me – what did I do? Where have these people been – have they been on another planet? I have played in five cup finals, I have won the lot. I had over 400 games for Tottenham Hotspur, been manager of the year three times. I have travelled all over the world as a manager. Now this job come up, which I thought was a fairly responsible job, but already they are jumping on the bandwagon. "Oh watch out Pardo, watch out", but that's the snidey press. That's the people up there or the people round that area that I have upset and they have a grudge so I expect it. It's water off a duck's arse.

I bought Dean Holdsworth for 50 grand – sold him for £3m. I sold John Scales for £3m – he was a free transfer. I sold Robbie Earle for x, y, z. I sold Marcus Gale, Leonhardsen, Micky Hartford, John Hartson, Hans Segers, most of them were free transfers. I played with some of the best players in the world at Tottenham, in the best team in the world in Tottenham, you know I have been through it every stage of my life.

Kinnear: No one's got an ego. I haven't got an ego.

That's brilliant! He's like a cockney Shebby Singh.

On the Newcastle fans who aren't happy with his appointment:

"If they want to sit down and argue with me, some of them are talking out their backsides, a load of tosh and I'm not accepting it. It's as simple as that. I've certainly got more intelligence than them, that's for sure."
Way to endear yourself to the locals, Joe.

I genuinely think Kinnear might have mental health problems. Most of his interview is nonsense, but I don't think he's lying on purpose. I get the feeling he genuinely believes, for example, he signed Perch and Krul... despite not being at the club when either joined.

My first reaction too.

From The Guardian:

"The best involved his time coaching Nepal in 1987. Having described, vividly, the thrill of frequent flights over Everest, Kinnear explained he had needed to leave that post in a hurry after the crown prince shot the king and queen. The only problem with this account was that the shooting of the prince's parents happened 14 years later, by which time he was managing Luton Town."

Pearce will probably be replaced by some meek yes man with no idea like Southgate. The FA blazers will not get the youth setup right as they just want to attend committee meetings and feel important, and not take youth tournaments and youth coaching seriously.

I'm still trying to get my head round that whole Kinnear thing. He was an out of date manager not renouned for being a Wenger type of 'thinker', he was one of the failures at Newcastle when they went down, is well known for that Malcom Tuckeresque interview and has a dodgy heart. I also can't see him doing much of the admin and scouting type stuff a D of F is usually associated with.

This is simply a mad, mad decision that is not going to end well. And that is not mentioning that interview on the previous page. Maybe Ashley wants to steal our crown as the professional game's comedy club. After all, we took off them in 2010.
