John Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Rooney making his feelings clear - wonder if Moyes will stick to his words that he won't be sold. http://news.sky.com/story/1116654/rooneys-united-future-in-doubt
Sparky Marky Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 It's coming to a head this one...I just see him at Chelsea.
ABBEY Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Just heard moyse interview from last week .. He sounded like his mate k@&n ..he's out of his depth and today's statement that Rooney is basically can persies back up is crazy comment.
roverandout Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 i know its not premier league as such but they were linked with premier league clubs but it looks like falcao and cavani have sold themselves out for money instead of ambition, pretty pathetic really!!!
Amo Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Monaco have spent over £126m this summer. Financial "Fair Play" indeed.
roversfan99 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 How is it pathetic in any way? Firstly, Cavani is joining a much more powerful European force than Napoli, in a beautiful city, with players like Zlatan, Thiago Silva, Lucas Moura and Pastore. But if, as you say, they have followed the most lucrative offer, what is wrong with that? They are human beings, money is relative to each person, but you wouldn't turn down say £100,000 extra a week in your job. Of course he wants money, irrespective of how much he already has. He will probably have say 10 years maximum left in his career, so why not earn a fortune.
davulsukur Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Chelsea have reportedly made a bid for Rooney. Would be a quality signing for them under Jose. Rumours that Mata could be part of the deal, which I think would be a huge mistake letting him go.

He'd be back up to RVP in my squad Abbs..... but only for as long as it took me to get shot of him. I suspect that the official MU line is that Rooney is not for sale but I bet Moyes would drive him to the Station tomorrow if he could. Rooney isn't the player he was by a country mile. He has an overblown judgement of his own ability and imo represents trouble for Moyes with a capital 'T'. Players who become Celebrity superstars never did go down well under Fergie and I think Moyes is following in his footsteps. Rooney's mutterings began before Fergie said he was retiring and I'm of the opinion that Fergie would have got shot if he'd still been in command. 30m in £ / Roubles / or whatever for him would go a long way toward Gareth Bale or similar.

Rumours that Mata could be part of the deal, which I think would be a huge mistake letting him go. Absolute madness if Chelsea swap Mata for Rooney. One is absolute class, backed up by stats, the other is a balding, overweight slapped arse in the midst of a fairly steep decline in ability caused by his unwillingness to adhere to a professional lifestyle. I am going to assume the story is @#/? tbh, or Jose/Roman have collectively lost their minds.

I think Man Utd have played a blinder on this. If the stories are true that Ferguson knew he was going in January and that Moyes would replace him it was clear from the court case between Moyes and Rooney that they couldn't work together. Since January United have slowly been messing with Rooneys head and this has culminated in his outburst yesterday. I suspect that the official line will remain the same from OT but like you I think the damage is irretrievable now and Rooney will look like the villain because he is the one pushing for a move. Win/win for United once again.

Backroom DE. Posted July 17, 2013 Backroom Posted July 17, 2013 He is for now, but if he keeps scoffing kebabs and smoking he'll soon only be a "good" player, then an "average" player. Had the talent to be one of the best in the world, did Rooney. Instead he's just "very good" (when he wants to be).
Guest Norbert Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 This'll be the constant drone in the background all summer then. "will he go?" "Won't he go?" "Does he get on with Moyes?".............Blah blah blah. He and his agent pulled this stunt once, and got a new contract, but for the reasons previously mentioned it will lead him to getting the boot. And as for the point about him being some over paid player on the celebrity gravy train, well it is the Premier League. Football is secondary to the whole Heat magazine bollards to the players and fans, advertising in China and Korea to the clubs, and money to both. Football is just like that TOWIE, and has been for years.
thenodrog Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Nonsense. Rooney's overhyped and certainly not "great", but he is a very good player. Indeed so. All things being equal and just on ability he would be in my team long before Mata.
Salgado Is A Hero Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 I asked a Utd fan if he rated Rooney not long ago. His reply was, "On a good day". This sums him up. Mata over Rooney anyday because you're guaranteed at least a very good season from Chelsea's best player imo. Rooney's far too inconsistent to be considered one of the best players in his position.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted July 17, 2013 Moderation Lead Posted July 17, 2013 Everton playing Stanley in a pre season friendly at Stanley- think they brought the Gladys street stand with them...
Ossydave Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 There's going to be a lot of staff at OT with sore backs if they keep having to pick Rooneys toys up every other day when he throws them out of the pram. His attitude is a disgrace, especially when compared to a true United legend like Giggs etc. Reminds me of a 5 year old child getting a bit stroppy when a new baby arrives in a family, in this case the baby is RVP and tantrum child is Shrek. I wouldn't be bothered at all about him leaving if I was United, saying that though if he did go to Chelsea I think he'd be superb, at least for a season or so...... Change of scenery is best for both parties...
Guest Norbert Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Or he could be another Torres. He runs and runs, but he never really looks like a natural athlete, and he may grind to a halt in his early 30's. Especially if his kebab and fags diet is as bad as some suspect. It does catch up with you eventually no matter how much ground you cover. He might be on that downward slope, and getting rid now, whilst he has a high value would be good. Mind you Adi Akinbyi looked like a body builder, and he was rubbish in every way.
roversfan99 Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Torres was heavily reliant on his pace though, Rooney has never been lightning quick.
Backroom DE. Posted July 17, 2013 Backroom Posted July 17, 2013 Rooney was deceptively fast in his younger years. Had incredible acceleration and combined with his strength could smash through defenders like they weren't there. It's been a very long time since that Wayne Rooney has played.
somersetrover Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 I have to laugh at the whole Rooney scenario, the last time he wanted to leave it was because the club did not sign good enough players. This time he wants to leave because they signed a top player like he wanted and that has restricted his game time.

It's been a very long time since that Wayne Rooney has played. ill second that. i remember one of his runs against france in the 2004 euros. he was a different player then, totally impossible to contain. he's been very good since, but at the end of the day, he's a striker and his goals tally is not elite, despite the hype the media spin around him. that hype was based around his initial impact on the game.

Isn't he 6th in the premier league all time leading goal scorers? (Taken from Wiki, so could be wrong) 1. Shearer 260 2. Cole 187 3. Henry 175 4. Lampard 165 5. Fowler 162 6. Rooney 156 You suspect that, should he stay in the premier league for the next few seasons he would bag more than the 32 goals he needs to overtake Andy Cole. Still 6th isn't bad, certainly considering the players ahead of him.
