Moyes has apparently pulled out the 'tough Glasgow upbringing' card when asked if Mourinho's mind games will bother him. Cumbernauld must be massive.

I've never liked Moyes. Back in his PNE days (think it was the 2001) he once said that Preston was a bigger 'football town' than Blackburn. It riled me. I saw him a few years later in Preston town centre. He was deceptively big so i left it.

No I never liked him either. Makes him all the easier to hate now he is the Scum manager.

Dunno how you two can say that given some of our recent appointments! I can only think that you must be employing gumboots's brand of skewed logic where 'likeability' is an important managerial requirement.

Managing football isn't a popularity contest. Personally I've long admired Moyes and his professionalism. I even had a hunch that he would end up at MU when he first went to Everton (wish I'd had a bob or two on it back then). I think a lot of his thinking was forged during the time John Beck was managing PNE and Fergy has obviously been a major influence since. Not sportsmanlike but totally dedicated and driven, an ultra professional approach with an amazing attention to detail. Including the ball boys in his tactics as I witnessed personified this. I bloody well wish we had had the fortitude to employ him when Sparky left.

You probably admire Angela Merkel too.

Only from distance Al. ;)

tbh I do feel that whatever the Germans do they do well. One can either admire them or be antagonised by them. I am of the former.

Don't get me going on the Germans Gordon. Anyway enough off topic.

http://uk.soccerway.com/news/2013/July/22/boca-fans-shot-dead-in-pre-match-violence/n235367/ 2 Boca fans shot dead in Argentina. Awful.

http://uk.soccerway.com/news/2013/July/23/reports-barcelona-to-appoint-martino-as-coach/n235420/ And sounds like Barcelona is going for an Argentine manager , Martino, managed Newell's Old Boys.

Sorry, I know these are not exactly Premier League Happenings.

That's the first time i've ever seen Fergie & John Beck in the same sentence, at least in a non-pejorative way.

As for Moyes, he is very much aware that football management can be a popularity contest with the club's fans, hence his ingratiating 'People's Club' nonsense at Everton, and his 'Preston is a biigger football town than Rovers' garbage at PNE.

Cracking manager though, but that wasn't the point.wink.png

Have Stoke really offered £6.5M for Mame Biram Diouf? He was ok with us, I don't remember anything exceptional and he wasn't worth anything approaching that in my opinion.

Maybe the Germans got to him too and brought out his vorsprung der technik.

We're hardly dealing with chess champions Gordon. That's all I can think of. You're right, talk about letting the cat out of the bag and showing how Pardoo is being undermined. And by Kinnear for goodness sake. Wonder what odds they are for relegation?

looks as though Cardiff are going all out this summer, £8 million for caulker? they have already spent around 8 million on that Danish chap and are looking to sign capoue for around 9, they are taking a hell of a risk, Swansea on the other hand have done it gradually and are building a steady ship, anyone think Cardiff are trying to play catch-up with their neighbours by buying big?

Dunno. But when I think of who might go down, the only conclusion I can reach is the promoted clubs.

Norwich have strengthened significantly, can't see Newcastle, Villa or Fulham going down, Stoke won't go down under Hughes imo, same with West Ham under Allardyce, Sunderland have strengthened well and will be alright under Di Canio I reckon....Everton, Swansea, West Brom, and Southampton will be fine which is everyone.

So they're gonna have to strengthen. I reckon they've got the best chance of staying up out of the three. They definitely have the best manager. Swansea will finish ahead of them but anything can happen in the games. Although, from memory Swansea usually win (I think).

Can see the DiCanio experiment backfiring, Norwich I dont think have significantly improved, similar with Saints, but even so it will be very tough for the promoted clubs.

I think Sunderland underachieved under Bruce and O'Neill so Di Canio won't have to do much to get them 45-50 points. S'oton have made one of the signings of the summer in Wanyama, Jay Rodriguez should be good this year and Pochettino will get them more points than a season under Adkins would have. They'll come midtable. I think they signed a decent CB as well which was desperately needed.

Norwich have signed Redmond, who's not far off Zaha and Ince, Olsson obviously, Leroy Fer who looked a talent in the U21 tournament and Van Wolfskinkel and Hooper who will pretty much guarantee them goals.
