Jozy Altidore, USA got a hattrick vs. Bosnia Herzogovina.

He's going to play for Sunderland.

He played for Hull a few years ago but maybe he's going to come of age now. Had a good year in the Dutch League, Eredivisie last season.

--------

Switzerland beat Brazil, 1-0. Friendly or not, a surprise.

Arg. over Italy,

Northern Ireland I heard beat Russia 1-0, and that was a Competitive Game. Probably too late for NI to make the World Cup unless maybe they won their 4 remaining games all. http://uk.soccerway.com/international/europe/wc-qualifying-europe/2014-brazil/1st-round/group-f/g4654/

Are you working at a higher level than Paulo Di Canio? Because once again you're coming across as a complete arse, with a huge chip on your shoulder. You just couldn't resist, could you?

Yet I found Maji's contribution very informative and quite fascinating.

Of course you did.

I like reading his posts too but they do come across as 'know-it-all' occasionally.

Occasionally? If his professional reputation lived up to his ego/ mouth, he'd be coaching at Barcelona.

With it only being a friendly I'd rather Scotland win if there's 2 Rovers players playing for them.

1-0 Scotland. Absolutely shocking from Hart. Never understood why people rate him.

Never want my team to lose - well unless it was to relegate your shower or stop another of the home nations qualifying or something. On Hart - hasn't he been golden glove for about 3 seasons? Didn't he concede less last season than any other keeper?

Agreed, plus I didnt actually realise Cleverley was playing till he was replaced. Baines was motm.

I guess you missed his pass that created the first goal, which suggests you weren't watching closely, which would further suggest your view on any of the players may not be based entirely upon what actually happened on the pitch.

By the way I thought that centre half of yours played pretty well

I thought Welbeck played quite well tbh, nobody stood out in terms of man of the match candidates so why not him? He got a goal, and had to put in a lot of effort to make up for the shortcomings of his fat club mate.

Overall though the game reinforced by belief that England are due to get badly humbled by the first decent team they come across in Brazil.

I'd be very surprised, have seen nothing from the current team or manager to suggest they're capable of achieving anything beyond the quarter finals. We haven't progressed from 2012 at all, imo.

Agreed but a good manager makes the whole greater than the sum of the parts. We don't have the same level of (in their own minds at least) 'superstars' but perhaps have more players willing to work hard for each other. Add in the quality of players like Wilshere (assuming he can stay fit) with players like chamberlain developing and who knows. We won't come close to winning it and I still think we could quite easily not qualify but I do think within the available players there is a squad that can give a good account of themselves.

Of course when the manager refuses to even consider not including a player like Rooney who hasn't played in pre season and who's looked average at best for a few years then I guess your prognosis seems far more realistic than mine.

I don't think Roy has what it takes, to be honest. His niche is taking smaller clubs and getting them to punch above their weight. It's never really worked out for him at bigger clubs and I can't imagine that'll change on the international stage. Shocks can happen though. Greece won Euro 2004, so you never know.

Enjoyed an England for the first time in years last night..a welcome return of this age auld fixture.

Agreed, despite the result from my point of view, I really enjoyed last night.

Statistics are generally meaningless. He's helped by his defence. Van Der Sar kept more clean sheets playing for United than he did for Fulham but it wasn't because he was a better keeper there. Hart made more mistakes than usual last season and it was no surprise to see him criticised by his manager. He needs to start parrying the ball out for a corner as he seems hesitant to do that.

I remember City being linked with another goalkeeper this summer as I think a lack of competition hasn't been good for him or CIty. Although I still see him making the same mistakes as he did at B'ham. He's nowhere near the best keeper in the world atm. He's not even the best keeper in the PL and he's arguably not even England's best keeper.

I see you've avoided the answer. You're at a lower level, but you come on a football messageboard to suggest that you know better. You're full of @#/? Maj, but at least you have yourself. It's all you need.

Q. Do you think Ringo Starr is the best drummer in the world John?

A. He's not even the best drummer in the Beatles.

Indeed so Salgado. Playing for a top team usually means you have fewer saves to make. Last night Hart should have done better with that shot BUT it was travelling at a fair old lick and it dipped wickedly and most importantly he only had a very short time to see it. In his defence he got his hands fully to where it should have been but for the late dip.

Hart is no Clemence or Shilton and certainly no Banks but he prob still is our best option. Every England keeper in that list and that I can recall has made massive gaffs at some stage. Seaman, Robinson, Bonetti I recall made real howlers.

It's a debate I've had many a time and it was usually because of Friedel. After people told me Cech, Reina etc were the best keepers in the league as opposed to Friedel or Given. You're right, they have less saves to make, and also a lot of them are when the opposition striker doesn't have much time. Goalkeepers for lesser teams see their defences cut open a lot more.

To be fair, I don't fully blame Hart for the goal last night. He did see it very late.

It's not that he makes mistakes, all players do, but he makes more than the average number imo. These often go unmentioned though as is the case for some players. De Gea would have been crucified if he made the same mistakes as Hart did last year. For as long as I've watched him, he's parried the ball back out into the 6 yard box which is his biggest weakness.

I'm a fan of Ben Foster and I think Fraser Forster could turn out to be quality if he irons out his own weaknesses so I don't think Hart's place is as assured as most seem to think. But Hart is young though and the potential for a top class goalkeeper is certainly there.

Any 2nd year student would know what I've posted it's hardly top level science. Google it and come back trolling me when I'm wrong.

That's the rub Maj. Your suggestion is now that a 2nd yr student knows better than a Premier League manager, who has no doubt consulted many people already working in the fitness industry.

Exactly. Maj is clearly closer to "2nd year student" than he is PL manager/ coach. And Maj, it's not "trolling," it's just pointing out that despite the joy you get from your own opinions, they're nowhere near as important or qualified as you seem to think.

So Maj makes a comment which is both contributory and informative and is jumped on with absolute @#/? comments, which only seem to suggest an inferiority complex.

I'm catching up in the board and after reading Maj's post I was just waiting for Shilito's "retort" - which had nothing to do with the post quoted and all about making it personal. (Although I lost a bet with myself as it took a whole 6 posts later).

What is the @#/? point of that?

You don't like Maj. WE GET IT!

Contributory and informative? He's suggesting that he knows how to put together a better coaching plan for a PL than a PL manager. So, I'm challenging him on this. Sometimes his posts are just as bullshit and attention seeking as the "ITK's," so if you have a problem with me or anybody else challenging them, tough.

And if my "retort" had nothing to do with his post, what on earth was it about?
