See: Alan Shearer, Lawro, Martin Keown, Jamie Redknapp...

True but Owen's a different class of mind-numbing.

If he is worse than Lawro then that genuinely is a level I thought no man or woman could reach.

Owen appears to have zero opinions. Its very sad when Savage has the brains of the outfit.

On PDC, DE is absolutely correct, they changed their selection greatly during the summer from what I heard, this was the reason a number of pundits were doubtful. He has reached for what appears too much. He was having success in the lower leagues. Was a nice gesture to clap for those who traveled to see their game today.

Next Arsenal, West Brom, Liverpool and Manchester United. So it is getting difficult. I reserve judgment on saying PDC won't make the grade though yes, they look very lacklustre.

Everton another draw vs. an inspired Cardiff team. 3 draws. They have to get a W somewhere.

Strange how the ex-Rovers pundits are either very good (Salgado, Souness), or very, very boring (Shearer). Robbie Savage is..........just Robbie I suppose and is in his own catagory. The TV stations seem to favour dull ex-players with no opinions, rather than someone with knowledge of tactics and suchlike.

Course they do, because then the TV stations can direct their opinions.

I can put up with most of them however boring, just not Niall Quinn or Jamie Effin Redknapp!! He's like the assistant manager on Mike Bassett England manager, changes his 'popular' opinion with the wind.

You do have a point. Perhaps I just miss the time when Italian football was on channel 4, and James Richardson's review of the papers and suchlike. I do wish Shearer, Lawro or one of these pundits would suddenly have some Network style breakdown, but that is as likely as me winning the Tour De France on a unicycle. They'd need opinions and a personality first.

Personally I think Mark Lawrenson is OK as a pundit.

I agree, and he's always good value for a dry as the Sahara witty comment.

Aye, there seems to be this misconception in the media that good ex-pros therefore make good pundits. As if their reputation on the pitch somehow makes them an authority on the game, a theory that has continually been put to bed by the likes of Shearer, Owen, Redknapp, Merson et al. There are rare exceptions, of course, like Gary Neville, but in the main, the level of punditry in this country stinks. Film critics aren't directors, for instance, so why are the majority of pundits here ex-players?

Agree with John on those two. I think Souness said though, he's able to say as he pleases as he doesn't harbour any desires to return to management.

IMO most of the BBC ones are awful, and Owen has managed to be even duller than Shearer.

Can't stand him. The only time I've enjoyed his punditry was watching MOTD a few years ago when we'd beaten Wigan. He'd predicted us to lose badly, he looked absolutely gutted after the highlights  hates Rovers does Lawro. Regularly had us at the bottom of his little prediction league, even when we were doing well. A total know-nothing tool.

The reality is that he's actually a really nice bloke, who's forgotten more about football than you'll ever know. Yes, he's a PNE fan and as a result might not like us due to the naturally NW rivalry, but how many of on here wouldn't be somewhat bias against Burnley, PNE, Bolton et al if they were in such a position?

Personally rate Souness and Gary Neville - there are some real shockers out there.

Lee Dixon and Gary Neville are my top two.

Gary Neville is still wearing his red shirt.

Behave yourself! On countless occasions, he's been brilliantly unbiased, and praised Liverpool and City. Who could forget his 'enthusiastic' celebration of Torres' while doing commentary on Chelsea vs Barca?

United were very poor today. I cannot understand starting a 40 year old Ryan Giggs in a match like that when the likes of Nani and Kagawa are fit and available. Moyes said he chose to leave Kagawa out of the squad entirely despite him being at full fitness, which is incredible. If United don't sign anybody tomorrow they will struggle this season, their midfield simply isn't good enough and Moyes won't squeeze every last drop of talent out of players in the same way Ferguson did.
