jim mk2 Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Good for West Brom. It's about time someone took a stand against the continuing bias (deliberate or otherwise) shown by referees towards the so-called big clubs. The media silence has been deafening too - if it had been Chelsea who had been wronged this story would have been running all week.

M-K Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 And the next time a West Brom player dives, 'draws the foul', feigns injury, claims a goal kick when he knew it went out for a corner, or sneakily grabs somebody's shirt while the ref's line of sight is blocked... all of which will most likely happen in the very next match they play ... their moral high ground will crumble away.
Stuart Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 The FA and PL will bat this away like swatting a midgie. The defence will be - we'd have 20 videos every week. Mariner will get a Championship game or two to think about his actions and it will all be forgotten about. As long as player continue to cheat there is no way to fix this unless all contact is prohibited at which point it stops being interesting and turns into American Football. They could have a video review system where a fourth official will review a decision (a la cricket) but even for such as the West Brom one vs Chelsea there will be 5 refs would would still have given it for every 5 that wouldn't. It's possible that you might outlaw stuff like the Pedersen one a few years ago but how often are they that blatant?

The MGP one at old trafford where he is hacked down in the penalty area clean through, but the ref waves play on, or the one at emirates where he dives and gets nothing? That West Brom decision was bad, but decisions similarly happen like that all the time. Its just more highlighted when its in the very last minute. Fact is that home teams and big clubs get the decisions, is it wrong, totally, but how do you solve it?

Backroom DE. Posted November 20, 2013 Backroom Posted November 20, 2013 I note Mike Reilly has apologised to WBA for the Chelsea penalty. Why no apology from Marriner?
FGS5635 Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 How did reilly ever get that job, he really was a terrible ref
Backroom Tom Posted November 20, 2013 Backroom Posted November 20, 2013 I agree that worse decisions happen all the time it was the timing and the effect on the result that has highlighted it Wasn't there something similar against Arsenal in the champions league a few years back and again because of the outcome there was uproar and a retrospective ban handed out for diving?
Backroom Tom Posted November 23, 2013 Backroom Posted November 23, 2013 How was it only the 'special one' that couldn't spot how talented Lukaku is? I've been saying it for ages but there isn't a better centre forward around Pure power and energy
Amo Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Does seem odd that Chelski have been crying out for a goalscorer, and they've loaned out the only one they've got.
moerpho Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 What a great game - that 2nd half was a classic. Best game of the PL season this far if you ask me and 3-3 was a fair result. Pretty much had it all with 6 goals, lots of chances, a possible red-card-turned-yellow (red in my opinion) and end-to-end stuff. How Mourinho could let Lukaku go to Everton when he is exactly what Chelsea is missing up top only he knows, but if he recalls him in january (year-long loan was it?) I think Chelsea will be unstoppable. Lukaku kinda reminds me of Drogba so should easily fit in with Mourinhos system. Going by todays game you'd expect at least one if not both of these two teams to end up in the top 4 this season. My money is on Liverpool for 4th at the end of the season. Edit: typos
davulsukur Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Wonder if Allardyce will last much longer at West Ham? 12 games in and they are sitting just outside of the bottom 3, fans are turning on him, poor home form (which is odd as Allardyce's teams are normally strong at home) lowest (joint) scorers in the prem. They surely cannot afford to be relegated.

davulsukur Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 No doubt he would keep them in the prem but if everything hinges on an injury prone striker to return then he is in trouble. When fans start to turn on the manager, at most clubs, the owners (not Venkys) see the need for a change. Also just seen Wes browns red card, awful decision
chaddyrovers Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I wouldn't be surprise to Big Sam leave West Ham. The fans have never liked him or the style of play but have accepted it to get back to PL and staying up but a lot of their fans want better style of football for defo.
Jimmy612 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Allardyce Out It's like you've lifted a thread from here and placed it on WHU's. Nice to see a good amount defending Sam and realising that they won't get better. You'll always find the Berks who have a problem with him from day one and are intent to ridicule him out of the club, before heartily celebrating the appointment of a complete novice, adamant that we should give him time and 'another window' before we judge. Makes me angrier than the Venkys themselves. Thick keaners

The fans have never liked him or the style of play but have accepted it to get back to PL and staying up but a lot of their fans want better style of football for defo. Arsenal is nearby, tell them to @#/? off and buy a ticket there. Such short memories football fans haven't they. Relegated and in complete disarray when he arrived. Promoted and a top ten finish after two seasons. What is this style of play @#/?? Last night he played without a recognised striker. Who the @#/? were they going to kick it long to exactly? Against spurs they played some lovely football. But for a STUPID mistake last night they were looking comfortable. One mistake and you're up against it when playing PL, simple. Interested to see how many of these know all WHU fans would take Holloway instead of Sam now.

Stuart Posted November 24, 2013 Author Posted November 24, 2013 Allardyce OutSomeone somewhere has posted a similar link to our thread on Jordan Rhodes. Amo Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Someone somewhere has posted a similar link to our thread on Jordan Rhodes. And yet you can't see the same point when it comes to Rhodes. As Joni Mitchell put it "you don't know what you've got til it's gone". That is a valid argument and one I've thought of making before. Rhodes = Score goals, but isn't the complete striker and is a passenger away from home. Allardyce = Gets results, but plays one-dimensional football and a defeatist away from home. So, why is it fair game to criticize Rhodes but not the Special One?
