Joe_Cullen Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Hello, Quick one, Anyone feel we have made a huge mistake paying wages of around 40k a week for him, he looks sluggish and almost as if he has lost it. His passing just isn't what it was last season, gives it away so much and too slow to win it back, thoughts?

philipl Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 The Fulham supporters all said that his legs were gone when we signed him. However, his problems at Rovers are 100% Kean not having the first clue what he is doing. Murphy is being played completely incorrectly.
John Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Not been overly impressed, but too early to make a proper judgment - his game never has needed much pace plus he didn't have a full pre season so may be lacking sharpness.
Joe_Cullen Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 I'm just hugely disappointed with what I have seen so far, to award this man wages of that level and a 2 year contract, amazes me. Next year he will be useless.
Kamy100 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 The big problem is that Murphy is not being played correctly, he is being played far to deep and being asked to try and play a high energy game (which he can't do). All down to Kean, he needs to be used in a "Tugay" type role which will play to his strengths but we have a numpty incharge who is incapable of doing this.
Joe_Cullen Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 Just his passing seems way off the mark so far.
Kamy100 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Just his passing seems way off the mark so far. That's largely down to our midfield being overun and players not giving him any options, I have noticed that when Ruben is on the pitch (who is also clever player) Murphy is more effective because Ruben gets into positions where Murphy can pass to him.
Joe_Cullen Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 Yeah agreed. I just wish we had a proper manager, we have great players, a a manager who could mentor Ruben and get him to know when to distribute and when not too could turn him into real class.
Hekla Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 I've said it before, the team would play much better with a new manager. We have good players but they can't all play well when the tactics etc are all over the place. In theory Murphy should be outstanding in this league, just not being played correctly.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 The big problem is that Murphy is not being played correctly, he is being played far to deep and being asked to try and play a high energy game (which he can't do). As I recall anybody playing deeper than Tugay would be playing centre half. What's the difference ?
hesfromburn Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Yeah I agree, I know most of us dislike Kean Kamy but this is football you will get preassured, A player of his standing at this level should not be making the simple mistakes he does and giving the ball away so cheaply. I expected a lot more from him, he has been REALLY dissapointing so far. Looks like his legs have gone and he doesnt have enough about him to do what tugay did.
BringOnNextSeason Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 i have to say , today i thought he was shocking , everytime he lost the ball, he dint track back and just waited for the referee to blow for a free kick
Kamy100 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 As I recall anybody playing deeper than Tugay would be playing centre half. What's the difference ? The difference was that Tugay had a team that was setup correctly which played to his strengths and tried to limit his weaknesses. Of course Murphy should be doing better but there are some mitigating circumstances.
dazmaz Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 i have to say , today i thought he was shocking , everytime he lost the ball, he dint track back and just waited for the referee to blow for a free kick Agreed, how he is captain is also past me, don't recall him leading the team at any point.. Gomes on the otherhand gave a few players a good shouting at and at one point told the defence to push up
Athlete Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 apart from bits and bats and the goal line clearence the game past this 50K per week journeyman by......also why is he captain ???
Joe_Cullen Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 Exactly, very disappointed we've signed him now tbh. Was expecting him to light this league up.
RoyRover Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 He's been a total passenger so far. Another great bit of business by the messiah.
rovers11 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 The problem is, he is on a different wavelength to our other players. At Fulham, he had the class of dembele and dempsey to pick out. The would find pockets of space and Murphy would find them with a pass. At rovers, pedersen and formica are so immobile so there's a limit to what he can do. He'll turn out to be a good signing, I've no doubt about that.
Baz Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 He missed a lot of pre-season, so I wouldn't write him off yet. However, it very well could be that his legs have gone.
Martin Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 He looks old and off the pace. His passing has been very poor. He has showed signs of linking up well with Nuno but he's been close to our worst player in the opening 3 games.
Jock Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Would put Tugay, Cowans and Berkovic infront of Murphy.
darrenrover Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 5 years ago would have been a great signing. I believe we could have had Charlie Adam for similar money. I know who my preference would have been.
Reedy You're A Star Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 It's only been 4 games. Give him chance.
Blueboy Downunder Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 for large parts in all our games so far, murphy has looked totally disinterested. for me he would be far better if he had two work horses playing either side of him whom would do all the running and tackling for him.
Rovers_Dan Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 I thought he was decent against leicester
