benhben Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Just saw a big meteor/Satellite breaking up in the skies over Lancaster. Pretty cool to see. A facebook friend claims the sky was lit up over Hull by something in sky. Must have been see full width of the country. Did anyone else see it.

Pedro Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 https://twitter.com/...2/photo/1/large Very slow moving for a meteorite breaking up.
benhben Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 Because most of its speed has been lost in the very upper atmosphere and were viewing it at a very long distance. Those fragments falling to Earth will still be travelling at 1000's MPH. It was seen on the East coast of the uk seconds before the West Coast. Shows the distances and speeds involved.
4ever&ever Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 I saw it on my way to Blackburn from Darwen, (going past welly bobs) at 10.50 ish last night. Looked like a giant firework but going horizontally instead of vertically.
