Why this constant obsession with ex players - just because they used to play for us does not mean they are the best candidates for any job.

Legends as players does not automatically mean they are good coaches/managers. Little or no experience is so risky, we should have learnt that by now.

I dont want Tugay to be manager yet. I want him to learn under an experience like McCarthy for few years before becoming rovers manager.

BTW, John, who do you want as manager???

Difficult because there is no stand out candidate in my view - also, need to take into account, we have some important factors such as our owners terrible reputation and it is unknown how much money they/we are prepared to spend.

Ideally someone with experience - Curbishley would be my pick even though has been out of the game for a while. Also he may not want to work North and considering his experience at West Ham, may want to under within a more normal set up.

What is a normal set up at football club???

Curbs turn down Wolves last season. tbh, I dont even think he is bother about football management now and more interest in tv work.

I agree. Newell did have some success in his managerial career but he also had an equal amount of disasters too.

Shouldn't be touching him with a bargepole, for me.

Big Al on the other hand - a lot seem to be writing him off and judging his tactical acumen based on a handful of games in charge of Newcastle and his work as a MOTD pundit.

Madness.

The man is a living legend and by far the greatest forward ever to grace Ewood Park. What the man has forgotten this week, people like Kean will never know with regards to football.

He may be the greatest forward you ever saw at Ewood Park but he wasn't the greatest forward ever to grace Ewood Park. Step forward the the little genius Bryan Douglas, the one and only.

His professional persona is completely, completely different to his public one and he would start kicking backsides of wasters like Dunn and get players like Hanley and Robbo in good shape.

With an experienced number 2 (Terry McDonald / Derek Faz / Ray Wilkins), Shearer would have every attribute to potentially be a huge success at Rovers.

Failing him, it's certainly worth making a call to people like Rafa and even sounding out people like Guardiola...if Venky's are prepared to pay the right amount of £s...

I liked this summary:

http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/blackburn-rovers/news/next-blackburn-manager-the-contenders_47383.html

Personally, I think Black would be a mistake.

And we don't need a former player as manager. We need hard-won experience.

If Venkys are worried about shoring up the relationship with supporters, they shouldn't be. Kean gone is a huge step forward. Add Agnew, Shaw and Kung Fu Panda to the exit line and I think the supporters will be firmly back on board, especially if a top drawer manager is appointed.

I love reading everyone's post and regardless of who everyone wishes to be the next manager, you all give good reasons for whichever appointment you're behind.

I've go to say though, I think the answer will lie somewhere in the middle of the road, in terms of what's been suggested. It won't be too high profile, it won't be someone way out of left field. AND I don't think it will be someone too inexperienced either (unless Shebby gets his reported number one target - Sherwood).

I don't think Black will get it either, Venky's did it on the cheap with Kean and they are now paying a huge price for it, regardless of what Mrs. D thinks of Margaret and the family. To be honest, I don't think the players want Black to take it either, although Black is obviously respected by several members of the dressing room as a number two.

The last remaining thing to consider is that no matter whom Venky's appoint, it will not be the choice of a percentage of the fans, whatever percentage that may be. With that in mind, they will look at somebody who broadly appears in the top three of people's preferences across the board.

All being said, I predict that the names of Mick McCarthy, Alan Curbishley and Ian Holloway will top the immediate list of targets, if none of these are available or realistic then everything changes and it's back to the drawing board.

Opinions?

What do you think is Givets problem? I think it's the poor coaching, so I really don't want black to stay. He's another who will paying off with a NDA.

Bring in Mick McCarthy, a safe pair of hands and a dose of reality is what we need.

Would people be happy with Shearer as manager and Dowie and Newell on his coaching staff???

Shearer would improve Rhodes as a player aswell.

I can see pluses and minues to this appointement. but I can see that with every manager been mention on here. Its each fan choice who they want.

If Alan Shearer is 100% commited to becoming a manager long term(and sacking of the bulk of his tv work) and has some kind of a plan and ideology of how he'd want to manage a team, then im defintely warming to the idea of him returning, both Dowie and Newell would be very solid additions to the backroom staff(but Newell would have to get over his agent issues under this lot and we need bouncebackability now more than ever!).

I'd be happy with that. Not my first choice but Dowie and Newell are solid and Shearer would hopefully have a positive influence on Rhodes, not that he needs it :)

I think an old head is required here. You appoint an up-and-coming when you're a settled club that can afford to take a bit of a gamble. Somebody like McCarthy would definitely make things much more steady and with a good man-managing number 2.

However, if there are no better alternatives available for whatever reason, than I would be inclined to give them a go on the basis that A) They're not Steve Kean and B) They would be unlikely to put up with much meddling if it happened.

To be honest, i'm amazed that Shearer wants the job. Having been offered it twice(?!) before and turning it down, I am amazed that when we're at our most implosive point, suddenly Alan Shearer is interested?! Bizzare.
