Not wrong!! Eric Black with self appointed Shebby is not beyond these toss pots. That would just about nip the euphoria in the bud. But the top thing , despite all the fantasies on here that must be remembered is that IT WILL BE A CHEAP OPTION. I dont think there is any more in the piggy bank with this lot.

then allow yourself to ask ''who in their right minds with any ounce of self respect would want to work at Billy Smarts?''. The thing has become so public half of em wouldnt come because they are scared of the fans-as wrong as that is.I think this has all the hallmarks of a long drawn out mess because nobody here can make a decision and Venkys couldnt make a decision and act on it if their lives depended on it-as we have seen this week.

I think names like Redknapp/Dalglish/ Benitez is very far fetched-sadly the Flitcrofts/Hill's/ are far more likely if only for the fact we can forget about anyone where paying much compensation is involved.

Redknapp, Dalglish and Benitez are all unemployed - so no compensation is needed.

Sick of hearing about the good spirit in the dressing, it's pretty obvious from on field performances that that's a myth.

Agreed- the dressing room was falling apart under Kean and poor old Black is inevitably tarnished by being around as it was happening.

If the players wanted Black, we would have seen it on Saturday.

To be honest, i'm amazed that Shearer wants the job. Having been offered it twice(?!) before and turning it down, I am amazed that when we're at our most implosive point, suddenly Alan Shearer is interested?! Bizzare.

It could be a good thing that he didn't want it the other two times, perhaps he knew he wasn't ready, and didn't want to balls it up. I'm warming to the idea of Shearer but with a good backroom team and the one mentioned Newell and Dowie might just work

It's a no-loss job for Shearer this time around. He knows that no matter what, he won't do a worse job than the previous manager has down here over the course of the last couple of years. He knows there is a squad that is more than capable of getting promoted this year and is already in a very good position to do so. He also knows that if it doesn't work out - the chaos surrounding our club thanks to Venky's is an easy and understandable reason for this and so he has something to blame any failure on and his credibility as a manager will not be tarnished. It is quite similar in some ways to when he took over at Newcastle for a short period.

Would I want Shearer? I'd have to hear what he wants and has planned first. We have no proof that he can make it as a manager and his motd analysis doesn't breed confidence. But it'd be foolish to judge him on that and, of course, his short spell at Newcastle. Hopefully we have someone out there for us capable of understanding whether Shearer could really offer us anything that a more experienced manager couldn't (though I wouldn't bank on it!).

second that.

Plus get rid of Kean backroom team of Brunskill, Hendry and Black.

would keep Mimms as GK coach.

Dont know about Mark Howard as Head of sport science tbh.think we need a new one tbh cos some of our players look unfit and overweight. But

Shearer would need tactical and sports science support.

And a settee to sit and mumble on.

wasnt Ian Dowie considered one of the more forward thinking coaches/managers a few years ago as far as 'sports science support' and Newell was tactically quite astute in his time at luton from what i remember.

First of all (Please don't use that word again) Ian Dowie. Ian Dowie is a @#/?.

Second, we should not be gambling on anyone with little or no managerial experience. We just can't afford to let someone have a stab at being a manager at our club's expense. Been there, done that.

Thirdly, the most important attribute after experience at this level is a no nonsense attitude. MM fits the bill, but if I were Shebby I'd be driving up to Ian Holloway's house in a big truck full of money and begging him to sort our ###### out.

Don't want Shearer. If he got the job he would be an utter disaster and tarnish the image many fans have for him as an absolute legend.

Which is exactly what happened with Newcastle.

Experience is the key......experience in tactics, fitness and man-management......not the time for a novice to learn his trade.

As good at our squad is at this level, Cardiff, Blackpool and Wolves are looking dangerous and we can't afford to gamble our future because one of our former players is interested.

I agree with this. Players showed professionalism on Saturday and ground out a decent result BUT that performance was not one of players who are on board with Black's style, clearly. Black is Kean, Kean is Black, let's hope the three amigo's can see, as we all can, that Black is just as responsible for the dreadful performances this season.

Shearer would be a huge risk but can't help but think I'd get carried away in the romance of it

Just to go on Saturday and see Alan shearer on the touch line rather than Steve Kean would be uplifting but maybe not best in the long haul

Can you imagine though, after everything we've been through with Kean, we would have someone on the touchline who not only understands the fans but totally understands Jack Walker's legacy and the importance of preserving it for the town?

All of our thoughts about the proper running of the club, restoring the pride that we've lost since the takeover would be there with Shearer at the club every day of the week. It would be the exact opposite of what Kean brought to the table.

Hard not to wish for it but I still think there are better options available. Shearer is a legend though.

When you put it like that, the idea is hard to resist!
