I listened to the podcast and I agree with everything that Kamy said. Shebby needs proper advice from people within football, don't listen to journos, agents and especially..... fans.

...but that doesn't mean we can debate day in day out on here about who we would want.

For what its worth after the last 21 months I am easy to please but I would love to see Sherwood or Shearer with an experienced assistant.

I know people will say we shouldn't go for inexperienced people again but with a figure head like Shearer or Sherwood and experienced coaches I think that could be the perfect mix.

But our previous inexperienced managers also had experienced coaches.

It's all very well of naming a "figurehead" and saying they would have someone competent as the assistant, but you're basically saying that you want the assisant to be the brains behind the operation. But if that person was worth their salt they'd want to be the manager themselves. This sort of set up has never really worked.

So in summary, McCarthy: Decent international experience, 2 x Championship titles, has kept teams in the Premier League before...vs Shearer: Only experience was relegating Newcastle.

Still baffles me why people would choose Shearer here.

Kept teams in the Premier League before? I'm afraid I have to disagree with you. You haven't countered the Sunderland 18-point disaster, but I guess you don't mind us fighting for our lives in the relegation battle again a la Wolverhampton Wanderers. As to your "real chance of keeping them up" I would argue he also had a "real chance of sending them back down".

As for everything else, I'll defer to your knowledge. I guess you're right about Mark Hughes. But I'm still not convinced by McCarthy and I'm worried that even if he does bring us back up, he'll likely send us back down. Why I want Shearer, it's not because I'm expecting Shearer to save the club or to promote us like McCarthy will, but more because the fans are more likely to forgive Shearer for screwing up than McCarthy. That's about it. In terms of success, I do not think Shearer is better. More for stability and morale.

Why is everyone against Kevin Keegan though? I thought he did great at Manchester City (constantly finished mid-table or top 10 before Stuart Pearce replaced him) and did relatively okay at Newcastle. Definitely won't get us relegated even if he brings us up.

Shearer would may be not be the shrewdest choice interms of tactics or defence (what we need most) but I think just the fact of him being on the touch line would give the whole place such a lift.

Obviously he would need a very experienced number 2, but I wouldn't stop there.

All the first team coaches barring Mimms should go, anyone who has been brain washed by that moran also needs to go.

What would the likes of Rhodes, Best, Gomes etc like more than having the best striker in Prem history as their manager?

IF it is TGM, at least give the guy a second chance !

It should be the season of goodwill following Kean's departure !

There are a lot of clowns on here who should be banned. At least TGM posts some insightful stuff - ok he's a bit controversial but a terrific read.

I fear Sherwood will be priced out of a move to Ewood. We all know what Levy is like - reports suggest he wants 3m compensation. No chance the club should pay that for an unproven manager and I don't think they will.

Shearer, Dowie, Newell is an interesting combination. Shearer would be the 'name', Dowie would get the team fit as he is really into that side of the game, and Newell would be the tactician. Could be a decent management team.

I seem to remember that Dowie was on a two man shortlist with Hughes to replace Souness back in the day.

If he got experienced support behind him, as people mention here, I would be positive towards Shearer.

A rovers legend who knows the Jack Walker legacy, he would create a massive buzz around the place and bring back alot of supporters to Ewood.

After two years with a horrible alienation of our club we def could need someone like him.

Of course a gamble, but IF he got some great backroom staff I think it could be very interesting.

Remember, he had never managed before when he all of a sudden became manager for a struggling Newcastle side.

I think its a bit unfair to say that he "obviously isnt a good manager" because of that.

Whoever the next manager is is less important to who the backroom team will be for me.

The current crop of players have been under/poorly coached for too long and they need a backroom team that can prep them for games, noth defensively and attacking.

This gives me confidence that someone like Shearer, who should be able to attract a good backroom team with his contacts, would be a good choice. It would create a feel good atmosphere IMO and he will surely be determined not to fail again and employ a good support team to help him succeed.

I can't think of anything worse than having dowie anywhere near the team, he's failed everywhere he's been, played a part in getting 3 clubs relegated and I can't see how he could help an inexperienced manager like shearer or sherwood like is being suggested.

I personally think we need experience like curbs who has been there and done it

Yeah, people like me. In all seriousness, I don't post any insightful stuff at all, and I thought Tony Gales Mic was okay. I don't remember him posting anything controversial, or am I remembering the wrong guy? Plus even if he did, he's not posting anything bad under the SydneyRover name. Whether I agree with him is another issue, but I think his points are all logical.

If anything, I deserve to be banned instead of SydneyRover for protesting against the logical choice of Mick McCarthy over Alan Shearer. By the way, why is everyone so against Kevin Keegan? Manchester City finished 9th and 8th under him (okay, so there was an unlucky period where they finished 16th), and Newcastle finished 12th under him with an amazing 7-game unbeaten streak. Plus if you guys were hailing McCarthy as having a proven track record of getting teams promoted from the Championship, Keegan has an even better record, promoting Newcastle, Fulham AND Manchester City. Plus he did much better in the Premiership with them after promotion than McCarthy did with Sunderland and Wolves. And if you want to bring in McCarthy's Ireland record, I've got Keegan's England record to back him up - being the first manager in a long time to beat Germany, etc.

I think the Flitcroft thing has come from an interview he did on Talksport, late Friday night. He said he wanted the job, he feels he's served his time at Chorley and is ready for Rovers.

I think any talk of Benitez or that calibre is just crazy so I don't take it seriously.

Judging Shearer on his time at Barcodes is unfair IMO. He went to a club in crisis and had a handful of games to pull off a great escape. I don't know if he'd be a success at Rovers but if he came I'd back him 100%

For me Curbs is the one but I don't think he would move North and I'm not sure he'd work with Venkys. I would be interested to talk to Hoddle too.

To those suggesting Rafa Benitez and managers of a similar pedigree, I'll have what your taking please!

We'll have better luck either going for a talisman like Shearer or a young/hungry manager.

I don't think we'd get Benitez either but Kamy put forward some fairly cogent reasoning on the podcast as to why we might.

Anyway, talk of Benitez might coax that Scouse idiot Darwen End back onto the forum and I don't think anybody wants that.

I'm all for giving people second chances

The guy had plenty of chances though and managed to rile people up every time
