Surprised no one has commented on this bit from the LT article:

A surprise name believed to be interested in the position is German boss Christoph Daum.

The 58-year-old has extensive managerial experience, including spells at Fenerbahce, FC Koln, Eintracht Frankfurt and Club Brugge.

If this is true he'd have to be a front runner surely? He's had his successes and failures during his career, but was lined up to be German manager in 2000 until a cocaine scandal cost him the job. His last managerial position was FC Brugge where he finished 2nd before leaving for family reasons. Surely he'd be exactly the sort of experienced name we'd want, and if interested I would definitely like to be see him given a go.

Some posters are difficlut to understand. If I had a pound for every time I have read 'I will come back when Kean has gone' I would be a wealthy man. Now some of the same posters are saying 'if we appoint X I will not come back'. Has he reality dawned on some that you will have to start spending money again if you come back?

Called the ticket office and they said I can cancel, just have to provide it in writing.

Might seem like a knee jerk reaction based on rumours, and it is, however im not willing to risk it.

Probably because those posters, me included, thought it unfathomable that they would make another managerial appointment mistake.... considering it's Venkys we're talking about, ill hang fire for a couple of weeks to see who they bring in. They don't exactly have a proven track record in appeasing the fans do they?

As far as I can see, all thats happening is that Black is getting the next 2 games until the international break. If Rovers go out there and win both games comfortably and play well then he will have thrown his name into the hat.....

HOWEVER, is it not painstakingly clear that Shebby will have the final say on this stuff, and he seems like the kind of guy who will want to bring in someone that the fans can get onboard with...he's not as stupid as some of the things he comes out with sometimes. Gotta give Shebby a chance to bring someone in before putting the boot in...he has afterall since his arrival had a huge iunfluence on Rovers splashing the cash on Rhodes, and I don't think its a coinsidence that Kean is no longer at the club (boy does it feel good to say that!) and Shebby is still around.

Bit cautious over all the names mentioned to be honest because this feels like the most important managerial decision Rovers have ever needed to make. Mick McCarthy yes would be great for the championship but we want a manager that will lead the way in the premiership too surely? He has provne not to be able to cut it in that league. Flitcroft would be an insane appointment but any former rovers player is always gonna get the chance to prove himself and will have the fans backing i'd like to think....whoever it is will have mine anyway!

You forgot they never Sacked Kean, he would have stayed.

Read between the lines and it's fairly obvious that Venky's where pushing him out the door. He knew the sack as coming, he's taking a different approach and has resigned to try and squeeze more cash out of them by making a claim for constructive dismissal or whatever its called.

His time was up, whether it came from resignation or the sack.

people are losing sight of thr facts. rovers have never employed a first time manager apart from kean. ince, hughes and kidd had been managers prior to joining rovers. maybe not massively experienced but managers all the same

Promoting from within once more after the farce that's been served up for the past 21 months would take the biscuit though. Yes Black isn't Kean, and he seems like a decent chap, but we need a fresh start. Experience is key.

What kind of ambition would it show the fans if Black is given the job? I really do pray it's just an incentive for him to get the team performing.

the German guy definitely sounds interesting.

Some German discipline in the back four would surely be beneficial? Problem is, do they not have a completely different approach to defensive tactics than the English? man marking vs zonal...

Meaningless, only one of those managers were appointed under Venky's.

Edit: Unless the point is the Venky's have a history of appointing men with no experience?

black may have been keans assistant but is that really a reason for blind hatred of the man? most of us work for idiots but it does not make us one............however i can only speak for myself

calm down :-)

posters were reffering to kidd ince and hughes as rookies when they were not. thats all

Funnily enough, although I'll never find the post, I mentioned this guy as a possibility for the job before we ended up with Ince.

Would be an interesting choice that's for sure.

Well you didn't quote anyone in your post, and it hardly seems to flow with the posts above it. It looks like a standalone post. It's almost impossible to know what you are talking about without some context.

I wasn't specifically refering to Black but he was one I had in mind. What if the manager is experienced but one you don't agree with (I'm sure there are some on the names we have seen so far)?

Not got anyone specific in mind, however a prerequisite would be someone with a proven track record in promotion at this level.

IE: Not Black.

I’m hearing that they will appoint Black as the manager then he will appoint Kean as his assistant manager ...................jk btw (if only to see this site go into meltdown :))

I’m of the option that venkys are starting to learn from their mistakes... I’m confident they will appoint someone useful.

Let’s just wait and see who, before we call for boycotts and sackings

When Colin Hendry came in there were lots of rumours about him being the next manager should Kean go.

I really hope they clear out all the coaching staff and start fresh with a full new team.

What's Sven up to these days?

Both times we have been relegated in recent times was with a 'coach' in charge, and I feel with the club and team in dissaray that it shouldn't be someones first position as a manager. On the other hand its been torture for fans in past two years, many regulars have left, so it would be great to get someone who also gets the imagination running.

Manager should NOT be one of the following;

Eric Black. A new brush is needed to sweep clean. Seems like playing squad is split and that would continue under Black plus he has never shown enough promises to warrant the job, it would Kean mkII. May aswell just pick any random average assistant from championship who at least would bring a fresh start.

Mick Mcarthy. A tad over rated, might do ok, but ultimately too boring to bring the fans back I think.

Colin Hendry. His chance with Blackpoool has been and gone, questionable character

Sherwood. In manay ways I woudl like to see him manager but reminds me of how great Kidd was suppose to be, plus if its right that we would have to pay millions in compo then Tottenham should run and jumo, if we were to take a risk on a novice then it should be one that doesn;t cost millions.

Flitcroft/Jansen. They need another job higher up leagues before they qualify, last I heard they were still working towards their badges. Whoever it should be should be fully qualified.

Alan Shearer. No way is he a manager. I'd be willing to eat my words if he was appointed and was a success. It would be good to have him as a coach.

Klinsmann. Big question marks over his ability as a club manager.

Mccleish. Overrated

I think manager should one of;

Sounness. I liked his style and he should sort out the playing squad, strong and independent enough to put things right.

Hughes (if he ends up getting sacked from qpr). As above.

Solskjaer. Looks promisisng. Young, ambitious and with some experience.

Hollaway

Curbishley

a marque manager wouldn't be bad if Venkys can pull it off and work out a good deal for both parties, ie. Benitez

There are some great managers in Germany, might be too ambitious but if we managed to get someone like Sammer that would be great even if they did just want to use us as a stepping stone in english football to get to one of the top premier league clubs.

I have an open mind though, there must be dozens of managers out there who could do a good job for Rovers and are willing to come. Just as long as Venkys set up a proper chain of command and one one hand let the manager have theri own backroom staff but on the other don;t let them claim too much power or influence at the club. Plus they will have to be decisve if ultimately they flop. And it MUST not be BLACK or any current backroom staff.

Nice Ideas if we were to appoint someone with no experience

Tugay along with his own backroom staff and supportive director of football. I think this would get the fans drooling but would be a risk.

Gary Neville. I'd rather have him than Sherwood if I'm honest. I assume he lives in the north west, is eager to get in mangement, thought very highly off, more so than Sherwood, I think I read that he has all of his badges. and he shouldn;t come along with a £3million fee like Sherwood if papers are to be believed

Would love to see Ole Gunnar Solskjær as the next Rovers manager. He managed norwegian side Molde to their first championship at the first attempt, and is currently on top of the league again. He refused to take the Aston Villa job due to loyality, but I think he will consider a new job offer from England. He won`t have to many of those if he keeps refusing, and he has ambitions to be a manager in England.

If Mick McCarthy falls into that category and got us promoted then how would you feel about his record in the EPL and two relegations on his CV? I'm not really disagreeing but trying to make a point about how difficult (I feel) it will be to get the 'right' man and appease everybody. I'm also surpised that after the turmoil under Kean some fans are still hedging their bets about his replacement and saying they will not go if they don't agree with his replacement.
