If Mick McCarthy falls into that category and got us promoted then how would you feel about his record in the EPL and two relegations on his CV? I'm not really disagreeing but trying to make a point about how difficult (I feel) it will be to get the 'right' man and appease everybody. I'm also surpised that after the turmoil under Kean some fans are still hedging their bets about his replacement and saying they will not go if they don't agree with his replacement.

If the choice was between Mccarthy and Black, i'd take Mccarthy every day of the week.

Mccarthys record in the EPL might not be the best, however it trumps Blacks record of none at all.

appoint hughes if he is sacked from qpr? utter utter madness. keanesque madness

Do you not think qpr might sack him if they keep losing? they've spent quite a bit haven't they. I still rate him, best not let have him have too much money as it seems to go his head though. May be a stupid idea, but calling it Keanesque is quite an insult.

Some posters are difficlut to understand. If I had a pound for every time I have read 'I will come back when Kean has gone' I would be a wealthy man. Now some of the same posters are saying 'if we appoint X I will not come back'. Has he reality dawned on some that you will have to start spending money again if you come back?

I was just about to post the same. All the months of mind-numbing it's all about Kean, sack him and we can move on posts lasted, what, 2 days after he actually went?

The new guy has to get 100% support whoever it is or Kean will have won: a victim of spoilt, cry-baby fans who forgot their roots when Jack Walker bought them the league with be the widespread perception.

Black is not "toxic" and does not deserve to be tarred with the same brush as Kean. If he is appointed he should get the full backing of the fans. Charlton was too early but the next 2 games should give the chance to change the team and make a difference. Let's see what happens.

If it is him, come on, give him one final chance and make sure he understands that.

His views add colour to this site and provided he doesn't get too personal - always maintained that individuals should have a right to defend themselves and have a go back ! - don't see the harm.

The man's an Arse! He could start a fight in an empty room. These boards are divided enough with out the "Doc" as it is. Don't let him near the place.

The thought that someone has already rung up the ticket office because Black will be in charge for the next couple of days makes me cringe.

I think people need to lay of Black and calm down. I don't think he is a Kean stooge and I don't think anyone has any idea how he would set up a team.

People might say he was part of the problem because nothing changed when he came in as assistant but Kean has had 3 assistants in the past 21 months and its clear that he didn't let anyone influence the tactics because throughout this period nothing changed.

Personally I don't think Black will get the job but I am looking forward to going to the next game to see if he can improve performances. He will naturally get a chance because he is in charge for the net few games. The owners are hardly going to come out and say to him you are in charge but you have no chance of getting the job full time are they ?

No more of this "well I hope we lose so he gets sacked" mentality. Please..

I hope Black makes it hard for the owners to make a choice because if we win the next few games playing well then surely thats a good thing.

All that matters to me is results. Winning games. Getting promotion.

Not often I would agree with your posts but spot on here.

I just cannot see that happening if Kean's no.2 gets the job. Venky's have been talking about a clean slate since the start of the season. They backed up that supposed change in mindset by investing in the squad and forcing the manager out. Do you really think appointing Black would be a clean slate? IMO it would be another case of Venky's going one step forward and then two steps back.

I will wait and see who gets the job, but if Black gets it I will be making a prediction that Rovers will struggle and that fans will be calling for his head by christmas/early jan.

I agree with this, sounds negative but it's not enough of a clean start. The whole coaching staff need a brand new freshening up. They're all responsible for the football over the last 22 months as they've all been part of the day-to-day training.

If Black did get it, I would of course hope he's successful but for me, this would not represent a clean start and would be hugely underwhelming and uninspirational.

That's already the widespread perception, I don't think we need worry ourselves with what others think.

I've got no problem with Black being in charge for the next 2 games, whilst we search for a more experienced manager. The worrying rumours however 'appear' to suggest the games could be used as a way of testing him out .... im not willing to lock my cash in on another potential 'kean experience'. I'll simply bide my time instead of jumping in, balls deep.

What you say is true.

However, the feel good factor created by Kean's exit will quickly dwindle if Black is given the job permanently.

There is a real chance here to jump on this positive feeling and ride the wave for as long as possible with the right appointment.

Serious runner in this market , and ticks many boxes . Been in a few people's thoughts for a while and of the ones being banded about , he would be a good choice IMO

A few important people?

Would be very pleased with this choice, even if we'd got relegated under John William's stewardship I'd be happy if he appointed this guy.

Whoever is in charge vs Wolves should be given full support (probably Black). Although he would be a far more competent manager than the Deluded One, he's not exactly going to give the crowd the lift a new appointment would. He might not be toxic, but he unless we play incredible football and win the next two games 5-0, and then string together a 6 game winning streak, he's always going to be viewed with suspicion.

I'm torn between a Big Name who might create a buzz but ultimately prove less than ideal, and a less attractive name but someone who could get us out of the league.

Ultimately, I think I will stick with my suggestion of 5 1/2 months ago...

How about Keith Hill? He'd remember what it was like at Rovers before the Golden Age.

He's also had a good record at Rochdale (second best league finish ever) and although Barnsley have had a poor second half of the season, they were meant to be entertaining and playing well til the turn of the year.

That Daum guy scares the life out of me, he would scare the players with those looks.

Just what's needed at the moment somebody to scare the hell out of the players, actually train them and change their mentality from the easy ride it seems they have had over the last 20 months.

He does seem to tick the boxes anybody who has had a few spells in the hostile Turkish football atmosphere and done fairly well must have something about them.

Doubt he would be the players choice at the current holiday resort club da la Brockhall
