A lot of people thinking Hughes might get the chop tomorrow.

Will someone tell Venky's how much he spent when he got us to finish sixth please?

Sparky at his best when he has to be frugal.

Give him money and seems to make a few wrong calls.

I think his best days are behind him and you should never go back !

If I was a betting man I would be sticking a tenner on Nuno Gomes.

A player manager.. I mean come on, it is obvious. This is how our owners think.

i was thinking the same earlier , but Danny Murphy, i'm sure there was talk when we signed him he being lined up as a replacement for kean ................. Whats Houllier and McCallister upto these days ;) ;)

I think he's being unfairly judged.

He was excellent for us.

He wasn't able to take City to the level they wanted, but he still brought the likes of Kompany, Zabaleta, Lescott, De Jong, Barry, Kolo Toure and Tevez to the club - pretty much the spine of the current team, so definitely played a part in their progression.

Took Fulham to eighth and Europa league qualification.

Kept QPR up (albeit by the skin of their teeth) last year, fair enough a disastrous start to the season so far.

He's the best candidate by a million miles!

I'll be honest, I haven't read all of those quotes (barely any if I'm totally honest) and I feel you've gone really OTT in your defence, especially by quoting from a msg board (I could find quotes that the moon landings were faked and One Direction are part of the Illuminati!) - but if you felt patronised, that genuinely wasn't the intention but thinking about it, I suppose in hindsight maybe you should be. I say this because think how someone of Keegan's stature would feel with you comparing him to Steve Kean - very harsh and unjust comparison!

In all seriousness, I'm not concerned with a long-term appointment in the slightest. We just need promotion. I've stated numerous times on here (before Kean went) that the types of managers who get promotion from this league aren't always the ones who can organise a defence in the Premier League (but that is of no concern as we aren't there anymore). Holloway had a very poor defensive record in the Premier League and guided his team through a horrendous run, Keegan won't happen but he would be a very good fit for what we need.

Most were on the same page and if I would have quoted a few you'd probably be like, well that's just a few people's opinion.....if you don't want to read them, the general summary is Keegan didn't do a very good job at Man City and interestingly Newcastle fans also referred to him as clueless...mainly because of his gung-ho tactics......I think the quotes are pretty relevant as they were from fans of a club he's managed.....who's more relevant than that.

I wasn't comparing him to Kean....I wouldn't even compare Ince or Kidd to Kean, just that the principle is the same and those tactics won't work in the Prem.......if all we cared about was short-term and getting promoted then McCarthy is the clear choice and nothing else needs to be said....he would be guaranteed to get us up.

I doubt anyone would come on a short-term deal....and with our owners there would be no guarantees that he would be sacked if it wasn't working out so imo we need to look long-term and go for a Hill/Grayson type manager.......after Benitez and Curbishley turn us down.

.

If the selection and formation at Charlton is anything to go by he's as clueless as Kean.

Can people please stop posting things like this? What did they honestly expect to happen with a few hours preparation ffs.....and Black is the clueless one???

This is Venkys big chance to do something right.

Having spent 8 million on Rhodes, Venkys showed they are really keen on promotion and they are willing to spend some serious money in order to gain that. Therefore, saving money by appointing Black (who has never been anything higher than assistant manager, if im correct?) on the cheap, doesnt add up with their desperate wish of promotion.

Black managed a couple of teams in Scotland for a few years and was a caretaker manager for a game or two in the PL. Here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Black

All in all, I don't think he's the manager to take us to a promotion spot and ensure PL survival.

But here's to him winning on both Wednesday and Saturday.

Another name in the frame:

http://www.dailymail...ef=Neil+Ashton+

I hope not. The article says he worked wonders on a shoestring budget. Those wonders seem to have been a fifth, a tenth and a current seventh in the second division of the swedish league. He's currently 30 points off the top with 26 games played. His fans protested him last season according to wikipedia.

Looks like there will be no quick appointment, which is a good thing in my opinion.

They want to go through a proper process to get new manager. There will be a shortlist and they will work through that, the plan is to go for a young progressive manager, think that they have seen likes of Adkins, Rodgers and Lambert being successful in this league and want to go down that route. That I would assume rules out likes of McCarthy.

In the meantime Black will be the caretaker boss, if they can't get people from their shortlist and Black impresses then he a chance of getting the job, but he is very much a fallback option.

That being the case, the outstanding candidate for me by a mile is Di Canio.

I like Di Cannio too. He's done a quite impressive job down at Swindon. However, it cant be denied that he's a nut job and I think that a club that is trying to regain it's sanity could probably do without that.

Not for me. Yes he might be a good 'un in time. But he's off his head. A welcome distraction recently has been seeing Di Canio lose the plot "Look, ha, ha, he's lost it with the keeper and taken him off after 20 odd minutes! Nutter!". I've had quite enough insanity for the moment. We need someone who: -

1. Will be accepted by the fans and put bums on seats

2. Will unite the dressing room

3. Will get them fit

4. Will have a plan

5. Will win games and get us promoted

6. Will tell the owners to but out of it and let him get on with the job of managing the team and buying the players he wants - within a specified, pre-determined, budget

I expect Jose is sat by his phone at this very moment.

Absolutely agree.

Aye, just what we need. No ta.

Far be for me to defend someone with dodgy political leanings but I think Di Cannio explained that he is a proud Roman and the above salute pre dates Nazi Germany by many centuries.

He's stlll a whoop ding though.

For the love of god will people stop spouting all these rubbish names. I don't care if he's played for Rovers or not, I highly doubt the majority of fans do either? Only one aspect should be considered and that's ability. There are plenty of great names out there plying their trade at lessers clubs and in lower leagues who would jump at the chance of coming to a club with intentions of premier league football. Go out there and grab a man who's worked miracles and his highly regarded as a coach, someone like Ivan Jovanovic would be great and the championship is surely a step up from Cyprus with Venkys supposed intentions.
