What about Carlos Queiroz??? Big name yet something to prove, english experience, and would fit into rovers with all our players from Portugal.

He would come too. Many united fans see him leaving as the main reason they haven't done as well in Europe recently. G Nev also rates him v v highly. Sure Gomes would agree.

What's with the love-in with OGS? He's just an unproven rookie but loads of you are drooling over him.

I think it's because of the potential he has and the respect that he commands. From what I know, he seems to have great contacts, is very thorough with his methods and has won the league with a team that has never won it before which takes an awful lot as creating that winning mentality to be able to see the job through is an extremely difficult task.

Ok, it's the Norwegian League and therefore probably doesn't have the same pressure and interrogation that comes with a job in England, but he has proved that he can create a winning mentality.

He's not necessarily my choice but he certainly has the same, if not more potential than some of the other younger candidates mentioned. I'd personally prefer one of the older, more experienced candidates if possible.

Thats the best shout yet, would make alot of sense with the portguese influx. I would imagine Iran are kinda tricky to compensate with......

Having thought some more about this:

Shearer - No thanks, quite bad pundit and doesn't exactly come across as up to date on his player knowledge ("Who is Ben Arfa?"). Far from successful at Newcastle

Flitcroft/Jansen/Short - I hope the person(s) putting this trio forward as candidates have had a word with themselves, would be a horrible appointment in my book

Sherwood - Unproven, but spoken highly of and seems a damn sight better than the previously mentioned options

Eric Black - I'd almost hope that the boycotts would continue if he were to get the gig. Nothing against him personally, but this is probably the only appointment that would make me more angry than the Flitcroft/Jansen/Short "dream team"

I believe Solskjær has something about him, and I genuinely believe he would be a success at Rovers, although unproven. Schüster would be a massive appointment, and if he's willing to come, I'd snap his hand off. Ditto Holloway and possibly Grayson, but why would any of those want to come?

As things stand now, Schüster, Solskjær and Sherwood - in that order - would be my preferred choices.

who's your choice Mercerman btw???

OSJ - just something about the guy. Think he has a big, big future in the game.

Time to move on from 'big names' like Schuster, Hitzfeld, Queiroz -'yesterday's men'. Look what happened to Sven, quickly ran out of steam, ideas and motivation.

As an outsider, would take wee Dougie Freedman.

still prefer roy keane over some of the dross we have been linked with

Not sure Roy would do it for me. I'd get behind him but I just don't think he is a progressive coach at all. His time at Ipswich suggests that he is not capable of revitalising a team, so if we were to take a bit of a gamble, I would go for someone like Solskjaer who at least has a managerial history of winning football matches.

A BIG no thanks to mr Roy Keane!

Queiroz? Now, that could be interesting!

The more names who comes up, the more I think its going to be really difficult for Eric Black to get the job.

There has been some exciting names mentioned and Im really excited (and a bit worried of course, its Venkys after all) about all this! =)

Roy Keane? F*** no. Horrific manager, failed miserably at both Black Cats and Ipswich. I'd rather have Roy Orbinson (would never ever do the "would rather have Steve Kean" joke, though!)

osj? you mean ogs?

what about david pleat?

Thanks for that, clearly you not had as much wine as me tonight ! Bed beckons.

Well, several reasons, but how about taking over Molde, who has never ever won the league - and win it in his first season, and not only that, this year he is close do winning it again ( Molde is on 1st place with only a few remaining games left).

He has a good backroom staff - and Im telling you Solskjær is going to be a Premier League manager in not too long.

If we get him, I would be delighted. BUT, its not going to happen, because as I said, the season is not over untill mid November and Molde is on course to winning the league again.

Yes, but that is after all only the Norweigian league. I don't doubt he is ok there, but people have got really excited and hopped on a bandwagon of support for him and for me, he is just one of many inexperienced managers I would rather us steer clear of at this moment in time. With Kean an Ince so fresh in our minds, it amazes me that anyone still wants to go down the routes unknown, inexperienced or lower league managers.

I am in agreement , may well have his faults but he could kick some ass like Souness did ,when he arrived ...

theres something about Roy Keane that really has me intrigued. I think it might be the way he would openly criticise the players when they have a bad game. That approach may just work for us after having a compulsive liar at the helm for so long.

How about Solskjaer with Gary Neville as assistant. Good friends, Neville could continue his England role as well and would be a decent first club role for him? If Solskjaer was Venky's option, I think that could be realistic...

You must be joking. Roy Keane is one of the worst managers we could appoint. The man was an unmitigated disaster at Ipswich, he sold Jordan Rhodes for £800k ffs. Keane does not have the skills to be a manager, I'd be absolutely gutted if he was appointed to be perfectly honest. I'd rather have Shearer.
