In an act of incredible stupidity, Facebook has decided to post old private messages from 2006-2007 ish on your wall for the whole world to see.

I got away with just a few gooey messages from the ex wife, hope none of you were up to anything you shouldn't have been...

They're not "private" messages, they were public wall messages back before Facebook allowed private messages. Back then all wall posts were public, but not shown on your friends timelines (like statuses were) so you had to specifically go and look for them. The really stupid thing is, back then there was a "wall to wall" feature, which showed to posts between two people which just about made it possible to hold conversations on walls, but the stuff they've just added to your timeline is your wall only (i.e. stuff written to you), so mine is full of nonsensical stuff like "yeah, the blue onr" and "only if it's not a prime number" which make zero sense without the other side of the conversation.
