Shebby has set himself up for a big fall here. If they had no intention of appointing one of these experienced, high profile names then he should never have mentioned that they had expressed an interest in the first place. By doing so he has built the expectations and hopes of the fans up only to knock them down. But I guess we should be used to it by now? It’s what has happened for the last two years.

You think the fans are going to accept Billy keaning McKinlay after what Shebby said? No chance. If that happens Shebby's credibility will be shot to smithereens.

Who is Rover23 and how would he/she know? i'd file it under b o l l ox

A vital Blackburn journalist seems to have reasonable information in the past, not saying its fact just a worrying rumour if nothing else, does seem a worry though!

So people are STILL taking betting odds as a reliable indication of our next manager?

FFS how many 'favourites' have there been now!

The betting on Sherwood and Holloway came from newspaper speculation and an approach for Sherwood - Shearer talked about wanting the job as well.

Billy McKinley has become a favourite without any of this so it is suspicious - this has been not helped with Cryer ruling everyone out but Holloway and then declaring a mystery man is ahead of him. Luckily he doesn't think its McKinlay but even the hint of Billy McKinley is annoying considering he is Steve Kean's best friend.

Good call Ossy. I remember what you said when Sherwood went to 3/1 on. I can't say I'm that familiar with managerial betting but it's clear that the odds give absolutely no indication whatsoever on what's going on.

I'd advise anyone not to take any notice of betting patterns, sherwood was a low as 1.3 a week ago.

Interesting article in one of the papers today about the betting pattern for the new Bolton manager. Apparently one punter heard jimmy phillips was to be given the permanent managers job, stuck a load of cash on it and became the favourite for the job. I fear that punter will lose a lot of money.

Played for Rovers mid-late 90s in midfield. Not too memorable!

Maybe not too memorable but one of those players who would break up play, kick anything that moved and anything above the grass! Bleeding priceless and couldn't we do with one now? He was someone who reminded me of Wally Joyce (Don't suppose there are many on here who remember him) but I liked him, apart from the fact he was signed from the devil worshiper dingles to the east!

That doesnt mean McKinlay would make a good manager. Anyone know who his agent is?

Mckinlay has......oh he is assistant manager of northern ireland they are a good nation doing well, I think I would rather have black then keans best mate back at the club wouldnt be surprised to see kean return as coach

http://www.fulhamfc.com/the-teams/staff/billy-mckinlay . McKinaly is a good coach and has worked at Fulham for a number of years

Cryer hasn't ruled out shearer to my knowledge? All seems to have gone rather mute on the shearer front. Is he the mystery man?

I am pretty sure he has ruled Shearer out.

I have just read the LT article again from Saturday and it says :

The Lancashire Telegraph understands the club want to land a high-profile name who has already had a taste of English football, although managerial experience at the top level is not a necessity.

Efforts to bring Sherwood to Ewood have not yet been given up on, while a few good results in the next few weeks could yet bring Molde boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back into the frame.

No offence to Billy but he is hardly a high profile name !

I think it will be weeks before a decision is made.

Based upon Mckinlay's last 18 months or so with Rovers as a player, I, personally, would not want this guy anywhere near Ewood. IMO, he did not cover himself in any sort of glory and did not help the Rovers' cause at all.

As for being a good coach, who the feck says so ? Kean was hailed as a 'great coach' and we know what a master tactician he proved not to be !

IMO, If we really have to resort to Mckinlay, the club is in an even bigger mess than I thought and the game would well and truly be up.
