If anyone is interested, Skybet are advertising a free £10 bet with new accounts. As its free money(and ONLY as its free) I've placed it on Shearer at 22/1

Ouch. 3/1 now. And Mckinley has dropped from 25 to 5/1.

Just had a look at the odds on oddschecker and saw Skybet was the only site offering odds, with Shearer at 22/1. Must have just gotten in there in time - put £10 on it plus £10 free bet.

Defo worth a punt at those odds.

Also managed to get Holloway at 25/1.

Shows how easy rumours start, shearer is mentioned, a little bit of cash goes on him and he plummets as its a small market and the next thing you know he's guaranteed the job because of his low odds

If it is to be Shearer, I hope he brings Dowie and Newell with him. He'll need all the help he can get.

Shearer; an ex-player. How many other ex-Rovers players have we had as manager?

I can think of only three..........Hughes, Quigley and Crompton..........oh, and Tony Parkes of course. That's 4.

Ah well folks, after urging others to get onto Shearer, I was too slow setting up an account myself!

Cheeky keaners selected me to do a random age verification on before I could open the account and in that time the 22/1 had gone...

I tend to think the money is safer in your pocket to be honest

How is Shearer better than McKinlay. One is a highly regarded coach who has spent 8 years working as a coach in the premier league the other has sat on his backside making daft comments on match of the day. I hope it isn't Alan 'don't know Ben arfa' Shearer. Seriously this isn't the time to gamble on an unproven coach.

but your the one putting mckinleys name forward?he is an unproven coach and a penis

I suspect you don't need the money !!!!

Yes, I was following Hemel's free bet spot!

But that random age checker stopped that little game.

Mercerman, I have only bet three times previously and the other three were wins on what I knew at the time were certainties. Not claiming Shearer is a certainty but was willing to make him bet number four... on Rupert Murdoch's money :rover:

So IF it is Shearer how would people feel?

I'd be thinking "Can I have a finder's fee for flagging up on here 48 hours ago that Shearer is interested please?"

:)

Seriously, I'd be incredibly excited. It'd be like 1992 all over again...........................possibly for about two or three games until we get whupped four or five nil, but who knows, he might even be a revelation, stranger things have happened.

If this lot couldn't be motivated by arguably the best Premier League player of all time they couldn't be motivated by anyone arguably. And can you think of anyone better for Rhodes to learn his trade from?

Enormously underwhelmed. Whilst any managerial appointment is a risk you minimise risks by appointing someone with a decent track record. Shearer is not that person. I don't get heart over head and I don't do romance or sentiment any shape or form. No thanks

Ouch. That's incredibly harsh imo.

It would be beautiful if Shearer came here and was successful as manager. Imagine chanting his name again and singing "walking in a shearer wonderland."

But for me at the moment we need someone who can knock some heads together. The team needs some discipline and a strict fitness regime. Then on the field someone who can mastermind is to promotion. That's going to take a man of experience. And now isn't a time to take big risks which his appointment would be.

Would be beautiful though if he came back as our saviour.

Assuming it is Shearer, this is why his number 2 will be so important. I think Dowie will excel as Shearer's number 2. You wouldn't mess with either Shearer or Dowie !

A number of none Rovers sources are telling me that Shearer will be new manager and will be in place before Wednesday.

Would be a surprise but not beyond the realms of possibility.

Oh god no we are well and truly screwed. I just don't see it being a success, being a big time player does not mean success as a manager. Motivating players is a lot more than just having a glorious past to carry round with you. Maybe just maybe it works with Dowie and Newell at his side but I have reservations. A truly botched up job just as each and everyone of us suspected.
