  1. 1. Which of the following managers would you accept

Recommended Posts

Something doesn't sit right when the dots are joined together on the McKinley link.

- The board at Ewood consists of staunch Kean supporters - even during the latter days of his tenure

- At least one of these Kean supporters is apparently at odds with Singh over the choice of manager (and being painted as the sane voice against Singh's crusade to become mentor to the next Mourinho)

- Kean is apparently suing the club for constructive dismissal - or some other form of compensation - yet...

- Kean's "close friend" is linked with the vacant managers role (suggesting Kean still has some influence?)

- He who must not be named has nothing to do with the club anymore - we are led to believe - yet...

- McKinley is seemingly a SEM client

- The new manager is supposed to be in for Wednesday but...

- We only approach Fulham to speak to him on the Monday and are rejected

- Meanwhile the fans are being split again about how foolish they think Singh is based on the above rumours

- Glen - someone apparently close to Singh - is adding weight to the alleged positions of Shaw and co (almost strengthening the arguments of the doubters)

Either there is a massive conspiracy theory going on (still?), someone is trying to flush out a leak, or there is a load of cobblers being spouted.

Or Singh really does think Billy is the next Jose and the links to Kean/SEM are simply an unfortunate coincidence.

I would prefer an experienced manager. The dislike of McKinlay is amazing as most people on this forum including me don't know anything about him. All we know is that he is a highly regarded coach and has worked as a number two for a premiership club. The fact that he is mates with Kean doesn't mean anything. After all Sir Alex is a drinking buddy of Keans and we would all take him as manager. The big problem is lack of experience but everyone needs a first job. I would just prefer it not to be us. Same with Sherwood, Shearer et al

You don't pay compensation merely for talking to someone, you agree a compensation figure in the event of an appointment being made.

Presumably twas ever thus with Sherwood. And we don't seem to be prepared to shell out for him even though he was reportedly our number one choice and we seemed to chase him to the exclusion of all else for nearly 3 weeks.

So any compensation demand for McKinlay might put us off. That's one straw I'm clutching to anyway.

REV?

Fulham want the compensation fee agreed before they allow talks to take place - that's what I said. In other words, they will allow him to go to rovers as long as we don't mess around with the finances. As far as I know, Spurs simply declined to release Sherwood.

Very good post indeed. Completely agree.

The only thing I will say slightly in Mckinlay's defence is that it is completely irrelevant if he is close friends with Kean or not. All that matters is if he's any bloody good or not. Although as you say, because he is, the fans will cut him correspondingly less slack if things start to go wrong.

Agree it shouldn't matter, but because of Kean's history at the club, McKinlay just won't get a fair chance. Therefore we may not see if he's any good or not. I've always tried to be fair to managers once appointed although I really didn't want Allardyce, so I won't be calling for McKinlay's head before he's even appointed, but there are some managers you can warm to, so that the things that annoyed you when they managed other clubs become endearing traits when they manage yours and irritate you once they go, and others whose appointment leaves you scratching your head and asking "Why?" I think McKinlay currently falls into the latter category.

You've just edited your post from "Unless Rovers pay compensation first" to read "Unless Rovers "agree" compensation first.

That's what I said!

DEN?

I didn't. Where did you get that from? My quote in post 3084 above proves it.

Rev?

If you didn't I apologise. That's how I read the original post so I must be seeing things. I also thought you were making the point that in this particular case the compensation was payable up front so that if we talked to him we were more or less "pot committed" to subsequently taking him on as it were.

Completely standard practice I would have thought for another Club to insist on agreeing on a compensation figure before allowing us to talk to one of their employees. Whether it be a fee for a player or compensation for the manager.

I was just trying to say that if and when we agree a fee, forget the other players in this, the deal will be done.

Oh - and I also pointed out that rather than Fulham rejecting our request to talk to him, they have actually accepted our request, albeit with a proviso.

It has to be just paper nonsense about Billy. I really can't see this happening as it would destroy Rovers fanbase around the world. Fair enough everyone would be better than Kean but McKinlay he his friend, a SEM client, only a coach, like Kean was......no experience, It would almost be better to appoint Danny Murphy then.....something is really wrong.

Appoint Billy McKinlay and I won't come to Ewood anymore....poor poor.

dont care if i get slaughtered for this, i will NOT support mckinley and as was with kean i will be secretly hoping rovers get beat under him, this appointment smacks of another cheap yes-man just like the last scotch twonk, venkys appointed, thats if this comes to fruition.

Who could be worse than McKinlay? Was considered a 'dog of war' when he played at Rovers. Absolutely not a footballer who prob won't have any use for the sort of footballing - i.e. playing thru midfield and down wings - we need for Rhodes. Are Bolton that much better than us? They go for a top clever, proven young manager, Freedman. And we go for not the number two but number three at Fulham. A first team coach. Like Kean. Can no one talk to Shebby?. We should either shell out for Sherwood or wait for OGS to come free. The fans won't give McKinlay a chance. With him we are headed for Div 1. he is at best a div 2 or 1 manager. Our attendance will drip back 4k. He is definiyely Ithink worse than Eric Black. Iwas just aboutto buy tickets to Palace away. NowI'm seriusly thinking of not uying. And I was realy pro-Shebby till now. Shearer infinitely better than McKinlay. The Venkys are letting themselves in for a £25m loss.

what a no-mark as a player and probably a no-mark coach turn down a chance to earn probably tripple what he earns now when no other club would even look at him? i feel ashamed to be a rovers supporter at the moment, i hope singh suffers terrible tragedies

Except Freedman is well regarded as a manager, not a coach like Kean was so you can't compare the two.

Coach or manager is irrelevant. Freedman is inexperienced similar to Kean (and McKinlay, and Sherwood, and Shearer etc etc) - last thing we need at present.

Why would you get slaughtered for saying what a large majority of fans are thinking.

As i posted earlier Mckinley was signed to Fulham Reserves by Chris Coleman in 2004 (When Kean was there) and did a lot of work coaching the reserves. (Andy Cole was also at Fulham during this period!!!!).

Any hopes of me returning to more home games is on hold again. I don't/won't watch the brand of football peddled by a Coco wannabe, I can't believe the ineptitude of the persons supposedly going through the successor process, the euphoria of Coco's departure has well and truly gone - the madness is they had the chance to get it sorted and have seemingly blown it.
