Now that the formal approach has been knocked back, surely the situation RE Sherwood becomes simple. He either forces the issue with Spurs (by maybe resigning) or we move on.

I can't see him resigning unless it's nailed on that he gets the job and it sounds like Rovers want to talk to him before committing.

Time to get their fingers out

Pay the money Spurs want or move on quickly

The way we did the Rhodes deal was embarrassing, mess around for aged then pay top whack, looks like we don't know how to deal with other clubs, unsurprising really

We are back with the old dilemma on Saturday aren't we? Win well and Black will probably get the job.

After the last three performances under Black, we will be lucky to win, never mind win well, however i don't expect that to halt his chances with the loons from pune

My train of thought is still that they'll wait until Black gets a win then appoint him.

I fear you are right there. They've had ample time to get a new manager in now and they keep circulating their interest in managers that they think will impress the fans but they know they've got a snowball in hells chance of getting.

The thing about this weekends game is we seriously need a win to keep up with the rest of the promotion candidates, unfortunately with that will most likely come Blacks appointment. An empty victory if we win, all too reminiscent of the wins under Kean.

The story is that he wants to talk to Rovers.

He may want to but he's not going to quit his job without knowing it's definitely his is he. Especially with the reputation our club currently has.

He could quit his job then they turn round and say they want someone else.

I remember a while back shebby went to WHL to wach a game, There was a rumor at the time it was to talk to Sherwood(not long after shebby went to WHL, kean resigned).

I cant help but feel that the job must have been discussed back then, Shebby must have known if Sherwood was interested in the rovers job,Shebby must know how far Sherwood would go to get the job ?

Same with their "marquee" signings when they first took over. Nothing but hot air.

We are wasting our time with Sherwood, if he was serious he would force the move instead of waiting for Levy's permission. Rovers will now probably turn their attention to Holloway who I simply cannot see being interested in the job.

I agree with Bob it's going to be Black.

why are people so pessimistic on here, saying right forget Sherwood,it's pretty obvious he was no 1 target from weeks ago, with Shebby, and I know how things work, getting permission is the last thing,he will have talked to Rovers for sure and asking permission again is doing the right thing. If he is nailed on for the job,I can see Sherwood resigning from Spurs very shortly.Re Black Shebby knows anybody promoted internal and the fans, rightly so,will go mental, but he obviously has to say he's in the frame because it looks like he will be picking the team on Sat.Say what you want about Shebby but he does usually get his own way, whether Sherwood is up to it,who knows, but I do think he will end up a decent manager somewhere, and probably at Rovers, especially after the last clown we had.

Bryans right, they are playing games. Why leak this? Anyone else interested in the job will know they are second choice now and walk away. Venkys can waste more time chasing shadows then give the job to Black because they couldn't get their choices. Que a re run of the farce of the last 2 years and the slow lingering death of a football club.

Depressing beyond words!

We don’t have the time to fanny about for weeks when it comes to getting a new manager in. Games in the Championship come thick and fast and Rovers are already 5 points off an automatic promotion place. If Venky's and Shebby are serious about targeting promotion then we can't afford to let this drag on for a few more games, not with an assistant in charge and a demoralised squad.

Thanks for saying all that. I agree with you completely. Hurray for commonsense!

19 days to formally approach our supposed number 1 target.

3 games next week - I cannot see how an appointment can be made before the Watford game. So you're quite right, it'll be a disorientated Rovers outfit coached by a man who doesn't know whether he's coming or going for 3 crucial, crucial games.

But for me this is the problem with interviewing entire shortlist. If Sherwood is top target we should've gone after him alone. Why would anyone resign unless they thought they were nailed on for the job.

Who by his own admission didn't know the positions Simon could play !

You really couldn't make it up !

"Next Manager Part 2 - Page 73" and still nothing of any substance. Seems my prediction will hold (no new manager untill we are at "Next Manager Part 4 - Page 101"). The other alternative and probably most likely: Black will get it it and be announced as new manager after 3 or 4 matches provided we pick up some points.

Can't help but think it's strange that after all the initial talk of applicants with great history etc we end up with a shortlist of 3 potential new managers who as far as I know have not applied and are currently employed elsewhere. Why not go for someone who have shown actual interest for the job? Perhaps because this way Singh and Venky's can give the fans the impression they're actively trying to get a good manager in, but at the end of it they have their excuses ready when Black is promoted.

I'm seriously feeling like we're left with only one option unless one of Sherwood, Holloway or OGS decide to come: putting all our money on Black being a better manager than Kean, and also better than the impression one is left with after reading interviews with him (Simon *sigh*). Oh...and that his 3-5-2 (or was it 5-3-2?) eventually will work out. More likely we'll have a new Kean on our hands. Anyone know if mrs. Black have met/talked with The Evil Witch of Pune yet?

Based on the 337 votes so far…..

Holloway – 84.6% would accept him

Solskjaer – 80.1% would accept him

Sherwood – 63.2% would accept him

McCarthy – 50.4% would accept him

So basically the supporters would mainly be behind Holloway or Solskjaer….all the rest would have to win over a lot of fans before they even start.

Id be very happy with either of those 2 – both represent risks in their own ways, but then so does every manager. Two very different styles and two very different views on sports science etc. Molde’s season finishes on the 8th of November (5 games to play) – would fans be happy to wait if we could have him lined up??
