Burnley seem much better organised than we do:

Interviews taking place at Burnley today. No final short list has been drawn up. McCarthy and Appleton are front runners. #twitterclarets

Really says it all - their wagon is clearly rolling in less than a week. Nearly three weeks on for us and............we might be close or we could be far, far away.

But for me this is the problem with interviewing entire shortlist. If Sherwood is top target we should've gone after him alone. Why would anyone resign unless they thought they were nailed on for the job.

Thats why I said IF he is nailed on for the job,did you miss that bit?obviously he ain't going to resign if he's not sure he's getting the job.

A lot of the soundbites coming out of Ewood (via the LT admittedly) seem to be saying that experience is not essential. This could be a way of keeping the focus on Sherwood but it could also be a justification of looking at Ali.

With good owners who it was obvious cared about the club, you could say that this is evidence of a long term strategy and ultimately a mid-to-long term plan for success could be in progress. However, it's not as simple as bring in someone inexperienced, give them as much time as they need and it will guarantee success. The Championship is a tough league to get out of. The longer we take, the less parachute money and the less we are able to attract PL level managers and players - making the job even tougher.

So many times we have talked on this mb about how to engage with the local demographic, increase the attendances, tap into a potentially rich market. A British-born Indian could be a good fit for the town and owners. The trouble is despite being 38 (I was shocked to learn that) he has very little top-level experience either as a player, coach or manager. Comparisons to Shearer fall over at this point - and seem to be sparring for a different kind of debate, :) or not.

If Ali had plied his trade at a League Two or even League One club, he may have some merits but - and this is the problem all newbies on the employment ladder face - how do you get experience if no-one is willing to take a chance on you?

Trouble is, with our club in the position it is, we CANNOT afford to take a chance on someone without even a good level of knowledge of the workings of a Premier League club (until the parachute payments run out, we are still trying to act like one, before someone gleefully corrects me), and personally I'd prefer an experienced manager for a couple of years to stabilise the club. Unfortunately I'm not part of the selection committee.

Bring in an experienced hand and make Judan Ali an assistant - or perhaps assistant first team coach. He must be trained up to the eye-balls!

Shebby doesn't know the meaning of "go away" and I'm pretty sure we wouldn't ask Spurs for permission if Sherwood wasn't interested.

I would bet that Sherwood will be manager by the weekend or at least the next game.

For what its worth I would be happy with Sherwood as manager I hope Shebby can sort this.

Tryin to justify all this in my head...anyone think its possible they are waiting to get the Derby game outta the way before appointing the new manager giving the new man 2 nice home games to start with...i personally was never a fan of a new manager taking the reigns in an away game, all in my head i suppose...6 points vs Wednesday and Watford would make whoever they appoint look a very decent appointment!

Thoughts?

Difference being we are dealing with the likes of Levy, Oyston and managers tied to jobs.....

Another nothing story by the Gazette - the line about 'every manager has a release clause price, nothing pool could do' once again shows they are kind of expecting it deep down.

I don't want to get all ITK on everyone but I believe that another manager (who lives locally) was approached last week for an initial discussion.

He is currently at a club so I am not going to spell it out (not IH) but in my opinion I think we are actually going about this the right way.

I'm fairly sure there is a plan B and C but I think it is obvious what plan A is.

No clearly he doesn't otherwise he would have fecked off from our Club by now!!

If we are right to believe the combination of Nixon/Cryer / ITK's then Sherwood looks like Shebby's no 1 target. They have made the approach and thats presumably because he has shown SOME interest.Nixon said he wanted to meet the brothers Grim which is 'showing an interest''. However won't the whole thing fall over as we have all predicted for weeks , once he hears and sees for himself what a complete bunch of imbeciles he would be working with ?? And i fear this is a pattern that will keep repeating itself culminating in a save face ''we wanted Black all along but thought it was only fair to all the fans to see who was out there''!!!!

Its so sick this Club and i think we all need to start turning the heat up on Venkys because we are firmly in the Sh1te for as long as they are here.

Ultimately , they have been responsible for every nightmare day at this Club over the last 2 yrs.

You don't want him but voted for him?!?

Connection with the club? If Sherwood had won the league at United, Liverpool or Arsenal I actually believe that that would give him more "clout" in the eyes of many fans. As it is he won it at Blackburn Rovers - that certainly shouldn't go against him ! He'll remember what this club was all about when run properly, how to do things the right way.

Is he the right man? I'm not sure, I not sure with any of them (they all have positves and negatives). The safest pair of hands would be McCarthy for me - but once promoted?. There are no certainties out there. However Sherwood is a far, far better candidate than Ali.

More importantly, Liverpools downfall came when they stopped appointing ex players as manager!!

The lack of decision making ability from the chicken farmers never fails to amaze me.

Unbelievable.

Paralysis by analysis, no?

This is what happens when you try to solve a problem in an area you know nothing about and do not take the time to learn about it. You end up making a patchwork of sub-optimal decisions which when taken together are incoherent as an overall strategy, viz their staffing appointments.

The last two years have been tragic for this club. It will go on until they pack their bags and go.

Accusing someone of being racist is a very strange idea of a joke.

He brought the word 'Indian' into it, therefore he thought it would be funny to capitalise on this boards reputation for unnecessary hysteria by goin 'ommmm racial'.

It wasn't an accusation. Quite clearly imo too.

There can be no excuses - it has taken us 20 days to get to this stage.

Burnley are doing interviews and presumably, they are not all out of work managers !

IMO, our planning and execution of the recruitment process has been p1ss poor and I don't think there are too many supporters who would disagree with that thought.

??

Souness = 1 FA cup

Evans = 1 league cup

Houllier = 1 FA cup, 2 league cups, 1 Uefa cup and 1 Uefa supercup

Benitez = 1 FA cup, 1 champions league win and 1 Uefa supercup.

Liverpool should have abandoned the 'boot-room' about 8 years before they did do.

I believe the hold up with Sherwood is not him, but the people Shebby wanted to bring in around him (assistant, coaches etc)

Not all would be keen on the move north, especially with Redknapp waiting in the wings for QPR/West Ham/Southampton etc

Hence Nixon's change of emphasis to Holloway.
