  1. 1. Which of the following managers would you accept

Recommended Posts

As far as I can see the only person claiming that Shebby Singh has put the scuppers on Holloway joining is you.

Which in my view is rather unlikely given that the general consensus elsewhere seems to be that we have yet to even make any official approach for the Blackpool manager.

Meanwhile if someone else on Twitter claims that the family have refused to talk to Sherwood AND McCarthy, then cripes it must be true. I've never heard of such a reliable source.

Alright Mr. Sarcasm! Meow :P The tweet regarding MM is not conclusive evidence. But you can either believe me or not believe me regarding Holloway, it's up to you but it's a fact, as things stand. We will not be making an official approach for Holloway which I am gutted about to be brutally honest. Holloway would have definitely joined though, Nixon's story was all true.

The only chance that Holloway could even remotely join is if Derek Shaw suddenly becomes more favourable with Mrs D. than Shebby or Shebby wakes up one morning as a different person.

Sherwood would only accept subject to meeting with the owners for reassurances. Singh didn't organise this meeting. Despite his daily contact with the owners and their continued presence in Switzerland.

Holloway is a credible, respected candidate supported by the club and half of Venkys. Singh knifed him to the owners.

McCarthy was overlooked by Singh for not fitting the right profile (whatever that is).

OGS was interested and did apply, yet Singh says he isn't serious about wanting it?

Shearer was a popular choice and certainly a contender, he then asks for reassurances and is subsequently discarded by Singh.

Other credible candidates like Schuster, Daum and Sven have been overlooked by Singh.

Anyone who asks for assurances and autonomy is overlooked.

We discard all of the above but pursue targets like Robinson, Grayson, Davis and Ali. All the while the spectre of Eric Black looms large.

We aren't looking for a manager, we are looking for a puppet. Fact.

I suspect the source of all these claims is internet tittle tattle but how could Singh arrange a formal meeting with Sherwood without Spurs having granted permission?

If a meeting had taken place and the move had fallen through and Spurs got wind of it Sherwood would be risking the chop from Spurs for gross misconduct.

In every manager hunt meetings and deals happen before a formal approach is even made.

I share your scepticism about the likeliehood of Holloway joining but my feelings are based on the fact that he doesn't seem to have shown the slightest interest in the post which would be consistent with the fact that he has written several newspaper articles over the months all extremely critical of the regime at Ewood.

Totally agree with all of this part. Surprised more people are not as sceptical though. I mean it has been three weeks since Kean left and he was already on the edge since the summer (3 defeats in a row anybody?!), you would have though that some research into a successor had been conducted during that huge time period. Other than Sherwood, 'apparently', it appears not.

If Shebby gets his way, it will be at least four weeks that will have passed and 6 games without a manager, totally rudderless, lacking direction, no clue on the pitch, no confidence in the squad and there is no guarantee we'll have man in by then.

The only reason I can see for the delay is that Venky's never had any intention of sacking Kean and were genuinely shocked to see him go. Nobody can dispute that all the evidence theoretically reinforces this theory. If that's the case, then why was it such a big shock? Was Shebby lying to us all along?

The last part is an opinion by the way, before anybody asks.

Its totally not about race !!

I really haven't heard a valid reason Judan Ali should be dismissed out of hand, compared to some one like Shearer, execpt that the poster has not heard of him, that's nots really a valid reason as its not really Judan fault.

Did you read the post just two above yours. Seemed like valid reasoning to me.

Every deal whether it be a transfer dealing or a managerial appointment goes through the unofficial meeting stage. Most of the time somebody on behalf of the player/person meets the other club and sees what's on offer. If agreed in principle, the other club will make a formal request for permission. That is the strange thing about the Sherwood approach. Singh obviously knew a deal could go down by making an approach but then why didn't it work? I'm cynical and would suggest it suits all parties for this to happen as it has, but that's just my opinion.

No employed manager would ever admit interest in another club until the deal was done. Look at Burnley recently. 2 days before Howe left, he said he still had a big project to complete and wanted to see it through at Burnley. Now he's gone.

I don't want to get all ITK on everyone but I believe that another manager (who lives locally) was approached last week for an initial discussion.

He is currently at a club so I am not going to spell it out (not IH) but in my opinion I think we are actually going about this the right way.

I'm fairly sure there is a plan B and C but I think it is obvious what plan A is.

Well well well, there's a bloody big surprise.

I didn't follow the Howe saga closely but I got the impression it was the worst kept secret in football that Howe wanted to return down South and that the only reason for the delay in the announcement was the wrangle between the Clubs over the appropriate amount of compensation.

I have to repeat, reading between the lines I get no similar sense at all that Holloway is interested in the position at Ewood.

Seems like it's over for Tim:

Oliver Kay@OliverKayTimes

Tim Sherwood move from Spurs to Blackburn looking like a no-go. Said Shebby to D Levy, "compensation's too high". (Sorry ...)

If he was a first team manager I can see compo but why would it be so high for someone who is basically nowhere near the first team. Tell em thanks but no thanks and LETS MOVE ON.

All the family stuff followed after so that everybody left on a good note. Of course, his mother had died and he has a family down south but that only came out once it had all been agreed informally. He wanted to leave because the board wouldn't reinvest Rodriguez cash and with new cash at Bournemouth and his affiliation with the club, once informally discussed, he was happy to return. All left on a good note though citing personal reasons, which contributed but weren't the entire reason he left.

I understand why you don't get the sense that he's interested after everything that he's said about the club and I couldn't tell you exactly why he's interested but I do know of discussions about the job. He would come tomorrow if he was wanted. Not sure about that now after going back in for Sherwood but I assume he feels the same.

People trying to discredit Singh? Interesting.

Shaw being turned into the "good guy", on account of his alleged Holloway pick whilst Singh is painted as a megalomaniac who turns down the recommendations of credible managers? Hmmm.

Seems to me this whole sorry episode proves what some believed from the beginning, Shabby is a puppet with no power. At Blakey's he claimed the authority to sack Kean and hinted he knew who he wanted as the new manager. Clearly none of this was true. Just another outsider brought in to lead us further up the garden path.

Still I enjoyed this lovely sentence:

The biggest insurance a club can seek to avoid a poor managerial appointment is experience and after giving Kean the reins to rain misery in his disastrous reign, Venky's should now be seeking someone who has been there, seen it and bought the t-shirt with the 'I am a competent football manager' print. Or something more pithy than that.

I would'nt mind so much about the owners wanting a puppet if they had at least more than 1% of footballing brain.

We will never truly prosper as a club again until the owners understand that the true owners are the fans and they need to leave footballing matters to people in the know and appoint people for the benefit of the club and not their pocket.

They have a chance to make matters right and show the fans their intent by appointing the right man and guess what.....they will fail massively.

Funnily enough I was just thinking the same, almost the same situation as somebody working for the club whispering to people to leave Kean alone and direct towards Venky's, wonder what the common link is? Who would feel threatened that their activities have been kept in check and his "power" undermined by the arrival and role of Shebby
