patrickvalery Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Considering we have to get promoted first time going for someone with experience, especially experience of this league and getting out of it would have been the logical path to take. This is a very very risky appointment. If it pays off then fantastic, but if it doesn't then that is Shebby finished, Venky's finished and possibly the beginning of the end of this club. Something tells me that Berg might just have the necessary to dig Singh out of his hole.

TBTF Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Yes, 5 weeks to employ a guy who could've been appointed within a day and who can't get a job in Norway. A predictable anti climax but good luck to Henning. He'll need it. Totally agree. Its a nothing. Not one to fire the fans, not a notorious manager, just a solid ex player. What have we achieved?? And from Bergs viewpoint-knows he wasn't in the top ten choices for the job so there is an element of desperate about him-there has to be. Looks like they only met him yesterday (5 weeks down the line) and now he's got the job.Very weird.Anyone before the self imposed Weds deadline you would say. When someone explains to Mrs Dumb and Onion Balaji just who Henning Berg is , and once its been cleared by Mullan and BRAG then looks like he will be our man.Bet they never heard of him in Pune Well done Shebby you tit -get your speech ready about how long you admired him and how he was always number one choice.
beanie Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Yeah like Berg Great player for the club but if it is him totally underwhelmed by the appointment after all this time they have got a manager with a so so record in norway Wow people having a go at shearer and sherwood for no experience but happy we have a manager who was ok in norway baffles me.
Backroom Tom Posted October 30, 2012 Backroom Posted October 30, 2012 Just realised the potential for bad HEN based headlines
den Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 We'll have to see how Berg works out, I wish him the best. You have to think though, that if he hadn't played for rovers he wouldn't have been considered.
John Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Have other clubs in England been looking recently at appointing Berg too?
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Well obviously they're not true fans if they've given up on the club. Some of them though, will probably have been bigger fans than you ever will be. They were fine until Venky's took over. Ouch - first you agree with me - then you have a dig at me, when in truth you know nothing about me.
jim mk2 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 I'm not sure whether it's a stroke of genius or completely crackers to hire an unemployed.failed manager from Norway. I've decided: it's crackers.
mark1875 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Have other clubs in England been looking recently at appointing Berg too? He was rumoured to be interested to take over Bury couple of weeks back http://www.talksport...der-bury-job-18
roverandout Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 poor appointment but at least its not robinson or mckinley, i think berg comes across as a bit thick in interviews, dont think hes anymore qualified than flitcroft to be honest, cant see this ending well and if it doesnt, that snake singh will be kicked out which is good news, i think norwegian managers are a bit out of touch with the modern game, very robotic, very underwhelmed by this appointment, venkys out, singh out.
DanLad Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Berg won't stand for the way the club is run. He won't realise what a shambles we've become. He's not a money grabber who will just take the cash and wait until the last second to run. I give him a month before he tells them to shove it.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Berg was probably the best defender we have ever had grace Ewood. Consistency was his trademark. He always gave his all for us and i know that if he's given the gig he'll always give his all in that position too. Can't say i'm overjoyed with the decision and it does feel like an opportunity frittered away, but he'll have my support and i wish him well. I have to be honest, if we were going for the ex-player bounce, Shearer would have been a better bet in the short term. I suspect Berg might be the better bet long term, but i hope that Singh et al are prepared for the backlash coming their way. Best defender ever to grace Ewood ! Are you for real ? How long have you been going ? Have you never heard of Mike England or Keith Newton to name just two ? As for Berg taking over as manager it's a joke. If he hadn't played for Rovers he wouldn't have got within a million miles of the job. Totally senseless, illogical , poorly thought out decision. The Club has become a laughing stock

den Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Ouch - first you agree with me - then you have a dig at me, when in truth you know nothing about me. My apologies DMTP. I get a little irritated when someone who stops going because they hate what's happening to our club, is considered not a true fan.
Blandy Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Clutching at straws here but someone has tweeted Andy Cryer about Nixons story. Cryer replied his story tomorrow is half different - could it be same nationality, another name!

And then what? Do you think by letting Singh go Venky's will start making sensible footballing decisions? Berg. Could be worse, could be better...
patrickvalery Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Have other clubs in England been looking recently at appointing Berg too? John, you have a way with words!! I'm sure nobody has even considered him except us. But if he's got the gig then what can we do? i loved Berg the player and for that reason, despite the stupid decision making of those who may appoint him, he has earned my support for a while.
moerpho Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Berg used to set up Lyn in a 4-4-1-1 formation if memory serves me right. Remember them playing some good football in his first year where they ended 3rd in Tippeligaen...only two points behind champions Vålerenga. Liked to play a passing game - no long ball hoofing. In that first season in Lyn they conceded only 22 goals - lowest in the league - and scored 37 over 26 games. Still....I think looking at his history can only tell you so much as it was in a different country with different football philosophies. I think Berg is more suited to the english game and his love for the club can't be questioned. I'll say again: Might work out - might flop - but I think he will put some pride back into the club.
chaddyrovers Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Clutching at straws here but someone has tweeted Andy Cryer about Nixons story. Cryer replied his story tomorrow is half different - could it be same nationality, another name! probably saying that DM wasnt in for the rovers like Nicko said.
Stuart Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Just realised the potential for bad HEN based headlines All my fine Berg quips ignored for ANOTHER chicken joke. I'm wasted on here.
RoverScot Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Clutching at straws here but someone has tweeted Andy Cryer about Nixons story. Cryer replied his story tomorrow is half different - could it be same nationality, another name! There is another name in the frame according to other non-Nixon Maradona reports. No one seems to know that name. Unless that name is Black hence the odds moving slightly to him once again.
MI ROVER Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 , i think norwegian managers are a bit out of touch with the modern game, very robotic, very underwhelmed by this appointment, venkys out, singh out. Wolves Mgr seems to be doing ok Solbakken and OGS everybody wanted both Norwegian if I am not mistaken.
Reemslaw Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 I'd be quite happy with Berg appointed as mgr. We could do a lot worse, some of the names going around the media lately have scared the crap out of me.
Backroom DE. Posted October 30, 2012 Backroom Posted October 30, 2012 Bolton get Freedman. Burney get Dyche. Ipswich get McCarthy. Rovers get Henning Berg. The only manager that doesn't have any Championship experience? Ours. Obviously. Take a bow Venky's, you've done it again.
adsfortheblues Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 This appointment will end nasty. He's already slated venkys once and when he doesn't get his own way either with venkys or mr pig crap, then he will be off, Berg won't take any kean. Also why the heck does it make any difference if he was an ex player or not. Player - Manager, two tottaly different roles. May as well just get Sebastian Perez in for the crack, seen as he is an ex player.
