riverside returns Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Berg is a man of considerable standing and has some very good links to SAF. This may turn out to be a master stroke.

booth Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Two questions that should have been top of the list for Shebby when appointing. Will this bring the crowds back? Does this man have credentials to win promotion? I don't think either of those have crossed his mind. It seems this was the main dilemma for him. Will this person still allow me to get in the way? I hope if Berg is announced he makes life very difficult for Shebby, even though Shebby obviously believes he can still do what he wants with Berg in charge. This is the reason he didn't want experience, because experience wouldn't take his crap and told him so. Sadly I don't think Berg will get us promoted, or bring the crowds back. Perhaps if we are lucky and other teams really stumble but I think we will be mid table at best. Is that good enough to sustain our wage bill? Who knows. Big gamble on the clubs future that needn't be. And for the record Bergs one of my favourite ex Rovers. I just don't think it's the right time for experimenting right now with so much at stake.
Backroom DE. Posted October 31, 2012 Backroom Posted October 31, 2012 Insane that we're going to appoint Berg over Holloway, absolutely insane. But then, what do you expect with an utter moron like Shebby Singh in charge? He's no different to Venky's, an ignorant, incompetent fool of the highest order. He's just pulled the wool over some people's eyes on the basis he's friendly and has said nice things about certain sections of the support. I'll be behind Berg 100% and very much hope he'll be a resounding success but still, what a joke.
BRFC95 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 I'll be grossly underwhelmed should Berg be offered the job. He won't get us promoted.
booth Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Berg is a man of considerable standing and has some very good links to SAF. This may turn out to be a master stroke. If he does well it'll be a spin of the wheel not a master stroke.
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 - REALLY????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Berg as new manager is one gargantuan MEH!!! and see gates of 13k and then ask yourself again. It is interesting - commercially Berg isn't the best of the options reported to be available to us. He will also take over at a bad time 7 points from 9 were gained against weak teams but will increase expectation - he will have to hit the ground running or people will remember he was chosen ahead of Holloway.
dr_awol Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 If this screws up, I hope every Rovers fan remembers who made this decision. If this is a success, I hope every Rovers fan remembers who made this decision.
keyzer80 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Henning Bergs boss (Vegard Jansen Hagen @VegardJH) at TV2 is reporting on Twitter that its not a done deal yet, but it looks positive
Ralfinho Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Im thinking of getting Shebby's face photoshopped onto Jabba The Huts for a t shirt
Rover_Shaun Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 3) Would you have signed Murphy, Etuhu, Rhodes, Best, Kazim-Richards or Gomes? Murphy - past it Etuhu - makes a tackle 20 mins after the ball has gone Rhodes - needs service from a poor squad Best - Jury out as he's made of glass Richards - below average journeyman sulkpuss Gomes - class touches but cannot last the pace Underwhelming
booth Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 If this is a success, I hope every Rovers fan remembers who made this decision. Sorry decision, I meant huge gamble. You do realise his hasn't been a decision based on merit. This could easily have been Billy McKinlay or any other ex rover with a bit of experience. It's taken far too long to bring in an out of work manager who has zero experience outside of Norway.
den Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Quite simple for me. Take away the fact that Henning's played for rovers, then ask why?
arbitro Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Holloway was the only man for this job, im gutted to say the least. I will back berg but i wish i hadnt renewed my season ticket straight away when kean left.. That's a bit contradictory - you back Berg but wish you hadn't renewed. On what do you base you comment about Holloway being the only man for the job?
Ralfinho Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Berg's first thing to do should be to get the squad to do the bleep test. Those that are fit enough carry on as normal with their training, those that arent (probably most of them) get them running and get their stamina right up. If he can get the entire squad fit enough then we will start to win and win comfortably
Black Burn Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Quite simple for me. Take away the fact that Henning's played for rovers, then ask why? See Puffsan's post for more details.
braddock Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Murphy - past it Etuhu - makes a tackle 20 mins after the ball has gone Rhodes - needs service from a poor squad Best - Jury out as he's made of glass Richards - below average journeyman sulkpuss Gomes - class touches but cannot last the pace Underwhelming All good signings in the Championship.
Clitherover Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 A negative side about Berg is that he really has NO Charisma. Isn't that the case with all Scandinavians? Only kidding mate. When I was a kid and Berg was at Rovers he lived near the town centre in Clitheroe, I think it was up Church Brow. I remember going round to his house with a couple of mates who were Rovers fans, I wasn't at the time and the less said about my preferred team then the better. Anyway he seemed like a really nice, down to earth kind of guy. Apparantly he had a personal trainer or masseur or something who was round at his house regularly who wasn't too keen on my mates visiting. It's looking likely that he's going to be our next manager and I hope i'm proved wrong but the only outcome I can see is a failed experiment thanks to Shebby Singh's hugely over-inflated ego.
Bundesburn Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Quite simple for me. Take away the fact that Henning's played for rovers, then ask why? Well, if you made Rovers another club, you could argue he's played under Dalglish and Ferguson, has apparently sought out advice/training from Ferguson (according to an earlier post on here), has won the Premier League and Champions League, as well as being promoted from the league we're currently in as a player. As a manger, just look to Puffsan's earlier post for his record and the circumstances. His win ratios are quite impressive, especially considering the context. But I don't think you can ignore the fact that he is one of ours. It does make a difference, but it's certainly not the only or most important reason behind his appointment.

This could easily have been Billy McKinlay or any other ex rover with a bit of experience. It's taken far too long to bring in an out of work manager who has zero experience outside of Norway. If the decision was based on merit alone, then we would be after mourinho or SAF ect berg is exactly what shebby said he was after , young, has not been relegated as a manager, ect Everything else is just media noise
rovers_rob Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 See Puffsan's post for more details. I was hoping for Holloway but after reading Puffsan's post I am now looking forward to seeing what Henning can do. As a player he was signed by Kenny, Fergie and Souness (good judge of characters) and he was there when we won the league, promotion and the worthy cup. Whenever anything good has happened at Rovers over my life time he has been there so fingers crossed and I will support him 100%. Henning Bergs blue and white army also works as well !

On the contrary,I think it is a MAJOR factor in his appointment.Shabby has seen at first hand just how much Venky's are despised by Rovers fans for what they have done to this club, and realises without the fans on board the club will struggle financially. So his first battle was to win the fans back (IMO that is his ONLY remit) He put Kean in a position where he had to resign so that was first part of the job done. Secondly he had to get somebody in who he thinks the fans can relate to,he really does think that the fans will embrace the Venky regime for bringing back 'one of our own'. Time will tell whether that will happen. For my money though it shows the level of incompetence that our club is being 'run' with,I just hope this is a success.

I could bore you with how and why most of the signings will be integral to our promotion push but something tells me you don't want to listen. The question remains, WOULD you have purchased them?

Good post, thats my attitude also. I think regardless of who everyone wanted, NOW is the time to get behind Henning and the lads. One thing Berg can do, is gain the squads respect with his medal collection! 3 x Premier League winner League Cup winner FA Cup winner Champions League winner Dont get many better than that!
