GoneSouth Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 After 5 weeks of "searching" it's hard to see Berg as anything other than an underwhelming appointment. He might be a success and I'm certainly willing to back him as a club legend and what seems like a man of integrity, but after all the talk of stacks of top applications, this simply isn't good enough from the club. Venkys had a big chance to win the fans over with an exhilarating managerial appointment, and they've blown it. Many fans will back Berg, but he won't bring them back in large numbers. And one thing is clear going forward. We need Shebby Singh out of the club. It's clear from the past 5 weeks that he's a BS merchant on a power trip, and there are worrying signs he sees himself as a director of football type figure (he walks around Brockhall in a tracksuit with SS embroidered on it, FFS!). He will only prove a hindrance to Berg now, and if there is to be any hope of Berg restoring some prudence and sanity to the club, he needs Singh out of his way. Indeed, I think after these 5 weeks we now have definitive proof (as if it was ever needed) that Venkys will never run the club in an acceptable manner, and while getting behind Berg and the team on the football side, I think the fans now need to find a way of working towards the long term goal of getting Venkys to sell up and go. How this can be done, I don't know, but I think it has to happen.

Rover_Shaun Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 All played so far under a joke of a manager. I could bore you with how and why most of the signings will be integral to our promotion push but something tells me you don't want to listen. The question remains, WOULD you have purchased them? No for an array of reasons from price to ability
Giant Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 If in all likelihood Henning Berg is the new manager then it is imperative fans get behind him and support the team. Venky's are still an issue undoubtedly but it appears they are not going anywhere. That is not Berg's or the players fault. It is a huge relief that this episode has come to and end. I for one do not necessarily blame the club for this delay or not getting a 'bigger name'. It is the media and some supposed fans (or to use a more in vogue term, ITKers) who have been responsible for the rumours and conjecture since and possibly well before Kean was sacked. It is now fairly obvious very few people really understand what has/is going on behind the scenes at the club and that, in my opinion, is the way things should be run. Henning Berg's Blue and White Army!! Looking forward to a trip to Selhurst Park on Saturday and hopefully a more positive period for the club...
Wendal Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Shambolic appointment made by someone on a ridiculous ego trip, everything about this club stinks.
booth Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 If the decision was based on merit alone, then we would be after mourinho or SAF ect berg is exactly what shebby said he was after , young, has not been relegated as a manager, ect Everything else is just media noise Based on merit within the confines of budget and who we can get. Mourinho and SAF is silly talk. McCarthy, Holloway and Grayson are not.
den Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 But I don't think you can ignore the fact that he is one of ours. It does make a difference, but it's certainly not the only or most important reason behind his appointment. We've apparently looked at Sherwood, McKinlay and Berg. Are we really to believe that being an ex-player isn't near the top of Singh's thinking?
braddock Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 No for an array of reasons from price to ability Much of which has been decided retrospectively. Murphy was expected to do well, though as not yet, but many had him down as the signing of the Summer. Etuhu is no wizard on the ball but he's the only midfielder with any steel at the club and does a decent job there. Rhodes appears to be our best chance of getting out of this division and has played well and hopefuly we will utilise him better under new management. Best was unfortunate to be injured but he's proved very useful for the teams he's been at and it's a fair assumption that he could certainly do a job for us at this level. Richards has his negatives but he's one of those who'll pop up and get you goals every so often and has a bit of creativity. Cares about winning. Gomes can produce quality and could be one of those to bring on to produce a bit of magic. Faaaaaaaaaaaaaar, to early to be ruling any of them out.
EWOODACE1 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 I like most just feel so uninspired with the possible outcome of berg. I don't understand how a month of looking has ended in this. To me it seems we have been looking at the cheaper options and didn't want to have to pay a penny in compensation and this is why it may have taken so long. That said I will get behind berg but it just feels again that we have been let down. Maybe shebby was given a very small budget and he couldn't get the right man in or he just wanted to be the main man himself as others have stated. One thing for sure is this will not bring any fans back but I hope that this works out for our clubs sake
braddock Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 We've apparently looked at Sherwood, McKinlay and Berg. Are we really to believe that being an ex-player isn't near the top of Singh's thinking? And why would such an attribute be integral do you think? Because the fans have drummed it in to those above that they need to be appeased in some way. Because they are convinced their opinion matters on the grand scheme of things.
sparky12 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 I'll be grossly underwhelmed should Berg be offered the job. He won't get us promoted. The mans not walked through the door yet Kean me.... your all boring, damp and depressive... simple answer if you don't like it, don't turn up to games, close your account on this board and go support city, utd or chelsea!! Just a bunch of whining keans, I can't be doing with people like you... Granted Berg wouldn't have been my first choice but I'm not gonna moan about it I'm going to support him and the team 110%. We've gone through all this with Kean we don't need it again, especially without giving the man a chance! Rant Over

bypass06 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 If 6 weeks back, we had a chance to replace Doughnut with Berg, i don't think anyone would have complained. If he is to be our new Manager, I hope the fans get behind him and give him a chance. He served us well as a player, And hope he serves us better as Manager.
neophox Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Maybe Berg will sign some exciting norwegian players. Always does well in England. I think this can be a lift for Gamst aswell.
John Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 What is Berg like on sports science/fitness etc?

Rant Over spot on mate, people on here are so annoying. berg although not many peoples first choice, is a young upcoming manager, with a decent record at his first club before the ill fated spell at his second, but he knows this club inside out, he knows the championship and what it takes, he can read the game well, he did as a player and the likes of souness and SAF spoke of him highly. to start bitching and moaning about a guy who hasent even signed on the dotted line is pathetic and depressing, support the team 110% or bugger off and dont come near the ground, its fans like you that make this club look a joke ( venkys excluded ) i mean some of you boo our own players? WTF?? get behind the team and get behind berg
Emge Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Mixed feelings.. Obviously happy with a fellow norwegian, and I am happy we got a man we can trust 100 %, because Berg isnt a yes-man, which is a relief. On the other hand I was hoping for a more experienced man, I wanted Holloway all along - so dissapointed with that! But good to see that everyone here, although many underwhelmed, seems to back him 100 %. Who knows, he might be a success?
Steve Moss Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Berg's first thing to do should be to get the squad to do the bleep test. Those that are fit enough carry on as normal with their training, those that arent (probably most of them) get them running and get their stamina right up. If he can get the entire squad fit enough then we will start to win and win comfortably +1 If Berg is a stickler for discipline, fitness and understands the game, then he'll get us promoted. I'm going to support him and the team 110%. I've always hated that phrase.

Howler Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 If 6 weeks back, we had a chance to replace Doughnut with Berg, i don't think anyone would have complained. If he is to be our new Manager, I hope the fans get behind him and give him a chance. He served us well as a player, And hope he serves us better as Manager. Totally agree with this. Too many drama queens on here. The process has been a shambles but who says Berg won't do as good a job as Holloway, McCarthy etc. Hughes had no real experience and did a great job with us. Lets give him a chance if he's appointed, always seemed a good honest pro and will have learned from some of the best in the business. Talk of Redknapp etc was laughable and really was never going to happen. Just served to get everyone's hopes up.
Wendal Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 The first set of talks they ever had with Berg were on Monday night, this appointment stinks of desperation from Singh who so badly needed a puppet in for Wednesday. He has spent the last 5 weeks managing down expectation with ridiculous rumours like Flitcroft whilst also systematically sabotaging approaches for proper managers. The fact that some people are actually happy with Berg shows a) how brilliant a job Singh has done and how gullible some fans really are. Groups such as BRAG who have been totally nullified by Singh really need to look at themselves, for the last 5 weeks they have completely failed to represent the cause for which they were formed. Henning Berg is no better than Eric Black, that says it all for me.
Puffsan Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 I see someone questioning if he has enough authority to manage us. I think it's more the opposite way, he uses a bit too much authority and maybe he needs to adjust himself. Last night when I went to sleep I kept thinking about how good it would be to have a proper man like berg in charge. I can't wait to see if our players are fit enough or not, lookin forward to see if vuckcevic is good enough for henning, what beautiful diamond he can shape rochina into In 1-2 seasons. But his team has to perform from day 1, promotion is crucial
dr_awol Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Based on merit within the confines of budget and who we can get. Mourinho and SAF is silly talk. McCarthy, Holloway and Grayson are not. Imo Holloway as found a club that fits him and he should stay there, the same way Owen coyle found a club in Burnley and should have stayed there Grayson does not inspire me much.. Championship and Norwegian Premier League are on par imo so i would choose berg over him McCarthy - would not complain if he got the job, might be to old school for shebby ?
Silencio Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Wouldn't have been my first choice but we've got to get behind him. He was a class players for us and has won more on his own that our whole squad will ever win. His record is so-so but it's solid and he might do ok...
neophox Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 I think Tore Reginiussen would be a good addition from Rosenborg. Good central defender.
PAFELL Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Whoever is brought in to manage Rovers, Somebody won't be happy, with who is chosen. We all have our desired choice of who we want in. But any manager will find it difficult working with Shebby Singh and Venkys. So the new manager will be starting under difficult circumstances. A divided structure in the board room. Divided fan base due to the past two years. Some managers would not even want to come into the club under these circumstances - especially the more experienced ones. If Berg is appointed - it means he is willing to come into the club. knowing all that has gone on in the past few years. He has spoken out about venkys and the way the club is run. If he is the one to get the job, I suggest he like any other new manager deserves to be given that initial chance. Lets see what he does, give him the time and support both him and the team. If he is not up to the task, that will also be revealed. But to judge him or any other manager - consider boycotting / protests etc - before they even start the job or before a ball is kicked seems a bit premature imo. Lets give whoever comes in the chance first - let them keep or lose that support. But we cannot all have our desired choice of manager.
