callumrovers Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Who the hell comes out with the crap that Redknapp was interested when he clearly wasn't?. As with all the other big name links it was never going to happen. I bet another approach goes in for McKinlay after what Jol said, I expect he's going to be unveiled as our new manager within the next few days. The LET started he Redknapp story. Cryer tweeted saying he was interested....
Muddboy Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Oh well, it was nice whilst it lasted.... HARRY REJECTS ROVERS RUMOURS There's a surprise. Mind you, I can't believe the only quote they could get out of HR was "no chance". If there was real substance to him not being interested, there would be quotes galore. Interesting...
vwcr Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Rovers need to get on with interviewing who ever is on the small list they have. Forget redknapp for me thats a pipe dream.
Rover-the-Top Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Redknapp in court earlier this year: "I don't have to tell Mr Beasley the truth. I have to tell police the truth, not Mr Beasley, he's a News of the World reporter"
LeChuck Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 And yet despite the numerous sackings and vacancies that have appeared in both the Premier League and richer Championship clubs since he did that, not once has another club looked at him. Why if he's so good? Well....I'm not surprised PL clubs don't look at him, I wouldn't want us to either if we were still in the PL. But we're not, so I don't think that's relevant. As for richer Championship clubs....I don't know. Olly seems genuinely happy at Blackpool, and last season he possibly might have turned down any club hoping that he could get immediate promotion. We don't know that there hasn't been interest from other clubs. It's impossible to discount that he's a very likeable, honest guy. He's someone who could unite the fans again because of the way he approaches the job, not just his personality but his choice of football. Let's put this another way....who is out there is a better alternative? You'll struggle to think of many.
True Blue & White Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Hang on Hang on. There's no real benefit to Harry dismissing these rumours but I take your point.
andyroversmad Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Can we just stop this messing about and wasting time just give the job to Holloway.
vwcr Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Can we just stop this messing about and wasting time just give the job to Holloway. +1
True Blue & White Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Well....I'm not surprised PL clubs don't look at him, I wouldn't want us to either if we were still in the PL. But we're not, so I don't think that's relevant. But in your last post you said.... He set up Blackpool very well in the PL considering he had no money to spend then either (the owner had pretty much accepted they'd go down so kept the money, rather than investing). ..which implies you think he'd make a good PL manager given a bigger budget and more support which plenty of PL clubs could have given him in the last couple of years and yet none of them were interested.
gazsimm Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Ok so Harry as knocked us back did Shebby speak to him or not?
RoverScot Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Why send out feelers to Andy Cryer if he wasn't interested? He has to deny it until we make an offer because it would be embarrassing for him if he said publically he wanted the job and then Garry Flitcroft got it.
LeChuck Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 But in your last post you said.... ..which implies you think he'd make a good PL manager given a bigger budget and more support which plenty of PL clubs could have given him in the last couple of years and yet none of them were interested. Hmm. Yeah you could imply that from what I wrote, but as the discussion wasn't about that, and I was basically listing his CV for the last few seasons, you've made a diversion in context to take that from what I wrote. It certainly wasn't my intention. I was just stating that his season as a PL manager didn't do his reputation any harm, in fact he won quite a few admirers for the way he approached the task, so I can see why people would like him here. For argument's sake...if he could get a team playing the Blackpool did whilst having a better squad and more money to spend, then he could definitely make a good PL manager. The problem is that there is only that one season to judge from, so that season could easily a one-off down to "first season syndrome" that newly promoted clubs often benefit from. Another way of looking at it...in his last two Championship seasons, he's gained promotion and finished in the play-offs with a team on a moderate budget. To me he seems like a fairly safe bet if we want a manager who can build a team for promotion.
BigBar Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Why send out feelers to Andy Cryer if he wasn't interested? He has to deny it until we make an offer because it would be embarrassing for him if he said publically he wanted the job and then Garry Flitcroft got it. Does the same apply to me?? id be slightly embarrassed if Flitcroft got it ahead of me tbh!
gazsimm Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 ESPN might of got this wrong you never know!! Still think we will end up with Billy though!
Black Burn Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Can we just stop this messing about and wasting time just give the job to Holloway. If there's a chance we could get Harry Rednapp or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer instead, I would prefer that we wait.
broadsword Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Bet we don't get a decision for another week at least.
True Blue & White Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Bet we don't get a decision for another week at least. I see you're a glass half full person.
broadsword Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 No, I'm just happy to have a glass. But quite honestly, I can't see any movement. Black has said he expects to be in charge on Saturday. So if they are interviewing Holloway today it's not expected that he will be the primal stand-out candidate. I would expect that it won't clear things up at all and they'll carry on chasing each others' tails. There's such a thing as "paralysis by analysis" which is what we seem to have here. Four shortlists is crazy, you should just have one with 5 or 6 names on it.
DanLad Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 I see you're a glass half full person. That probably is quite optimistic!
Andy Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Black saying that he expects to be in charge on Saturday didn't seem to be based on anything other than 'well I'm in charge until somebody is appointed and right now, nobody is'. Ie - that could easily change between now and Saturday. For some reason I'm less underwhelmed by Flitcroft than I am with McKinlay. Still think Shearer would be a good appointment, albeit a risky one. But Redknapp or Holloway would clearly be the best choice from the rumours we hear of interested parties. Though I still get the feeling that nobody outside of the Venkys and Singh actually know what's going on, with Singh feeding out snippets to certain sections (fans groups, the press, etc) to put them off the scent. I guess all will become clear in time...
True Blue & White Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 On Holloway, don't know if anyone has posted this before but he's slagged off Venky's in the past.... Skip to 34 seconds.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=k6PacW2fJV0&feature=endscreen Does he really want to work for Venky's after his sarcastic comments about them?
davulsukur Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Bet we don't get a decision for another week at least. At the very earliest. It took them13 days to come up with a shortlsit along the lines of: Tim Sherwood Billy McKinlay Eric Black Ronald McDonald Megatron
jim mk2 Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Why are people getting excited over something that is complete pie in the sky ? Redknapp won't go to any club that doesn't have money to spend and he won't move north. is that difficult to understand ? Calm down dears and just listen to your old Uncle Jim. JOL EXPLAINS REASONS FOR REJECTING ROVERS' McKINLEY APPROACH By Dominic Farrell, Press Association Sport Fulham manager Martin Jol claims first-team coach Billy McKinlay might have been able to discuss the managerial vacancy at Blackburn had it been made clear he was the npower Championship outfit's number-one choice. Jol confirmed McKinlay, who is also assistant to Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill, was the subject of a widely-reported rejected enquiry from Blackburn earlier this week Rovers appear to have moved on to other targets in the wake of the rejection, with McKinlay's status as a managerial novice prompting further unrest among their fanbase following Steve Kean's troubled reign. And having detected some hesitation in the advances of a Blackburn recruitment party headed by global advisor Shebby Singh, Jol turned down the approach. ``They asked us a couple of days ago if they can talk to him and we said no,'' he said. ``If you say yes it opens the door for other clubs to talk to my one of my staff members. There are always four to six other people involved, so why should I say yes? ``If I'm 100 per cent certain they'd take him I'd probably be a bit more positive. ``I need Billy, he's a good boy and is developing into a very good coach and manager . ``If they said: 'He's our number one choice', I'd probably tell them they can talk to him. ``But there are always big lists in football and I want Billy to stay. ``If I wanted someone I'd make a nice phone call, informal. With us it was formal - 'can we speak to him?' 'No'. '' Blackburn have been without a manager since Kean's resignation last month. Caretaker boss Eric Black led his charges to a first win at the fifth time of asking courtesy of an unconvincing 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday last night that moved them up to fifth in the Championship table.
