G Somerset Rover Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Daily Mail says we're close to signing Cameron Jerome on a short-term loan. Would provide excellent cover until Best is fit at the turn of the year, and will be the partner that Rhodes has been crying out for IMO. http://www.dailymail...-EXCLUSIVE.html

Ricky Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Great minds lol. I'll delete my thread now. As I said on mine, I think Black may had identified that to get the best out of Rhodes he needs a big strong partner up there with him.
G Somerset Rover Posted October 25, 2012 Author Posted October 25, 2012 Haha great timing! Agreed - those two would cause havoc together in this league.
Ricky Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Our posts were near identical lol. Kean tried to change Rhodes to fit his style, Black seems to be trying to change the style to suit Rhodes (if he has gone for Jerome that is) Makes a lot of sense, if we get goals from Rhodes we should be near the top of the table come May.
LeChuck Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 As I said on mine, I think Black may had identified that to get the best out of Rhodes he needs a big strong partner up there with him. Brilliant. Kalinic had the same issue, look how that turned out. I can't think of any half decent striker that has that massive prerequisite to good performances. Jermaine Defoe used to be like that but he's done very well to improve his all round game over the last few years to enable him to play the lone striker role. Michael Owen had the issue and his career tailed off when 4-4-2 become a dead duck. It's lazy management to resort to think you need a big lump to create scoring chances for your best striker. Either coach them to do strikers role properly or find another way to play. We'll be coming up against teams playing a version of 4-5-1 and we won't an answer because we're trying to accommodate one player.
Oklahoma Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 For me, a striker is not a priority, Nuno Gomes and CKR would be enough cover for Rhodes, specially if we play in 4-2-3-1.
Robin Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 shouldn't we be looking for midfielders instead ?!?

So we may as well start playing a 4-4-2, or similar formation, now so that the rest of the players can get used to it. Jerome would suit the Best role perfectly.

I think we'll try to play them both together until it is realised that 4-4-2 leaves us too exposed, especially with our midfield. I guess it could be argued it would be better to find that out sooner with Jerome...
The Rover of Finland Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Jerome would be a decent signing to the Championship.
Backroom Tom Posted October 25, 2012 Backroom Posted October 25, 2012 Pulis has confirmed there has been talks over a 3 month deal Can't help but think it would be a great move for us and just what we need with Rhodes till Best is fit
Baz Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Jerome has everything, power, pace, decent shot, good in the air, strength. Shame its In the same way that Marcus Bent did.
Josh Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 He was always one of those players that you just knew would score against us. We don't need someone to come in and scores 20 goals, just to help Jordan Rhodes
Pedro Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Pulis has confirmed there has been talks over a 3 month deal Can't help but think it would be a great move for us and just what we need with Rhodes till Best is fit How long is Best out for? He was always one of those players that you just knew would score against us. Salgado Is A Hero Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 I agree with Josh, I certainly remember him scoring quite a few goals against us....I am 99% confident his goal ratio against us would be higher than his overall one.
RibbleValleyRover Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 Am I the only one who has an issue with trying to bring in players when we have no manager? Like I said when we were linked to Reo Coker, if the new manager comes in and doesn't rate the player or see him as part of their plans then he aint going to play. Seems like it would be a waste of money right now.
Eddie Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 It seems like a logical move. Kazim-Richards and Rochina are not strikers and Nuno Gomes is not up to playing 60-70 minutes regularly. It also means that we will be able to keep a similar style when we put Best into the side.
Lhrover Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 we'll have to move quick? isn't the loan deadline soon?
yorksrovers Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 shouldn't we be looking for midfielders instead ?!? nice one son
Ricky Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Seems to be down to finances Philip. I'm guessing our budget is maxed out so we can't afford to pay his wages. Shame as he's exactly the type of player we need with Rhodes.
diziet2 Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 odd news that he might coming to Huddersfield. I can't see it myself as he has bitter memories of his time at Huddersfield academy where he had a major falling out with the staff. His family still live in Huddersfield though.
Andyc10 Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Would be a great player to go along with Rhodes. It whether we really need him, as I do like Nuno Gomes playing up with him and Rhodes has even stated this himself (which makes me wonder why we never followed this up by making them a partnership). Think we need to focus on adding much needed pace to the side in all honesty as we lack this so much, it really hinders out attack. Jerome also does lack in technical ability and its not really the strikers im worrying about its more the service.
Dunnfc Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Will stay at stoke after Leeds got rejected as Owen is out injured.
