[Archived] Henning Berg - Rovers Manager

It's the same rubbish that has been going on for the last two years with various players.

Berg's arrival has changed nothing. In fact I feel worse as at least under Kean you knew the end was somewhere round the corner but held out some hope that there might be a competent manager round the corner.

Now, we're stuck with Berg for god knows how long as granted you can't really fire someone after this amount of time. And even if he does keep under performing it will take Venky's years to get rid of him.

Berg was dealt an horrific hand by kean , Ferguson and Mourinho would not get much out of this squad ...

What they would do though, is make us much stronger in January , I have my doubts that will happen with Berg , even if he has the ideas , I have a gut feeling Shebby will veto it ...

I think the club should now give some kind of honest explanation as to why Givet(who is clearly our best defender and even left back imo.) is not starting games, if its for fitness reasons then fair enough but by not saying anything they are just giving us something else to beat them with if we don't start improving fast.

It might not be an amazing squad but there is more than enough quality to be in the mix for the play off places.

Forget Ferguson and Mourinho, Holloway would have done better with this squad.

I'm not in a position to watch this game but all reports say we are getting absolutely battered by Burnley. That XI, limited as it is in many areas, should still not be getting played off the park by Burnley's.

Will probably get some flak for this but the players not being up for it in such a big derby game is quite telling. I can't see Henning being the man to take us forward. Dyche has only been at Burnley for around the same amount of time and he's motivating them. Who is Dyche? Exactly.

No excuses today, we were very lucky.

Berg has to go! No excuses.

One win in eight proves shabby had got it wrong.

Don't go mourinho couldnt do jack. Jacketts millwall ate in the playoffs.

Shebby's got to go and a proper chairman put in place to make sensible decisions. Unfortunately Venky's don't do sensible.

It's becoming clear Berg was a poor appointment. There are some decent players in the Rovers squad but results have got worse since he took over and we are slipping farther and farther behind the promotion pack. Venky's had to get it right when Kean went and they chose to gamble again on an inexperienced man when experienced, proven managers such as Mick McCarthy were available.

We've got some kean players at the club at the moment. It's probably the least well balanced squad we've ever had. All show pony faint hearts with hardly a battler amongst them. Is there anybody on the site remotely surprised that Pedersen did absolutely nothing according to the guys that went to the game and was substituted. We could have Givet on at left back with the good Ollsen playing out wide, at least we would have some pace out wide.

O.K. We could have probably subbed half of the out field players but Pedersens was definitely the most predictable.

For me the next game is make or break for some people with Berg. He's got more things wrong than he's got right at the moment.

Jury still very much out.

But as I have posted before, Berg is the best with a pile of utter rubbish everywhere he looks at Ewood- owners, directors, global adviser etc etc.

As for where Berg was on the list, he was hardly even on it!

Happened to have been interviewed when Shebby totally panicked after being deservedly ripped to shreds by Harry Redknapp's people (and it wasn't just a matter of 'arry ego, Shebby had made an horrific mistake).

It is way too soon to judge Berg. I happen to believe (or hope) he's doing well for his short time in charge. He'll get matters sorted, if given the chance.

What horrible mistake are you referring? Shebby/Venkys have made many errors, but I'm curious what they've done in relation to Redknapp?

Bit of over reaction on here Berg has been in charge 32 days is that enough time to reverse what happened previously?

Previous two years of butlin's holiday camp training gearing up for relegation as part of "the plan", two years of a "the plans" self serving prick and his allies (some who are still at the club) doing things in their own interests? Two years of players confidence being hit because of self serving agendas?

Lets judge Berg if or when he brings in the staff and players he wants and they are fully implemented in the way he wants them to play.

Unfortunately this was never going to be an easy league to get out of for any team in normal circumstances never mind the circus that is Rovers

I think there are some managers ,who would not have touched the job with a barge pole !

He could well have been 8 or 9th on the list ...I suspect he was , tahtis why it took so long ..

I think more experienced managers would've come ( journo's were hinting they would ) but Shebby had a fixation on appointing a former player.

Sounds about right, not forgetting that in their culture former succesfull players should be lauded and looked upon like heroes, in our cluture you win matches or your useless.

The biggest problem Berg has is that by all accounts we must go up this season or he'll be removed from his position.

With that in mind, how many people hand on heart believe Berg will be our manager next season? Not me. Without a lot of investment in January we haven't a prayer of going up, and I cannot see Venky's providing more funds.

We must be making a pretty hefty loss each month, money was spent on the squad in the summer including juicy contracts handed out. Depends how we are placed by January, may not be wise to spend too much.

Such a mess, any normal club would have sorted the managerial situation in the summer, and let them bring their own players in. Also, what was the point of Shebby bringing all those Portuguese randoms in?

The thing is that after Venky's obstinate stance towards Kean over the last two years, Berg's not going to get much patience from the fans if he continues to falter. Venky's can't expect fans to keep buying this crap, even if the new guy is a club legend.

We were 3rd when Kean resigned and in among the leading pack, we're now 9pts from 3rd and performances have largely left a lot to be desired. There hasn't even been any honeymoon period to speak of that you would expect from a new manager. I'm not calling for his head. That would be nonsense either way. Look at how long Kean was here, the bureaucratic search for his replacement, and you honestly think calling 'Berg out!' will have any effect? Might as well back the guy and hope that he's able to turn things around. At the moment, my initial optimism is turning a little sour.

Berg is not the man.

Came from nowhere after 'searching the globe' for weeks, weeks and weeks.

There can be no excuses.

I personally would question his team selection, his substitutions, his tactics and his powers, or otherwise, of motivation.

He simply does not measure up and this little Championship table of newly appointed managers proves it:

  • Holloway 7 matches, 16 points, averaging 2.3 points per match
  • McCarthy 7 matches, 13 points, averaging 1.9 points per match
  • Dyche 7 matches, 11 points, averaging 1.6 points per match
  • Freedman 7 matches 10 points, averaging 1.4 points per match
  • Appleton 5 matches, 7 points, averaging 1.4 points per match
  • Berg 7 matches, 6 points, averaging 0.9 points per match

IMO, I am afraid we are on the road to nowhere with Berg - a cheaper option, perhaps a 'Yes' man; again, IMO, any new man worth his salt, would have got rid of at least Brunskill and Hendry, maybe Black as well, and brought one or two support staff in to give the whole place a fresh lift.

Sad times afraid and not much cause for optimism.

That's another great question for BRAG to put to Singh, why is he buying players for the club?
