Quite scandalous how many were against Mick McCarthy:

"He's too old-school!"

"Look how he did at Sunderland in the PL!" (and ignore the fact he got them promoted, and twice with Wolves)

Would've loved to have Big Mick here, tbh.

He's not coming get over it.

deary me, people who suggest Mick would have done better with this squad, well dont be daft. there is so much of a mess still around the place, and that is still very much embedded into the squad. like i said before, Berg needs to be given a full season, which includes pre season and his own players to be brought in. If we dont go up this season, then there is no need to feel upset about it. It is really unfair on Berg, when he has to deliver results with this group of useless over paid players. Berg has my support, and despite the poor results and performances, he should be given a proper a chance. We just cant keep on calling for a managers head everytime things go wrong.

I seriously doubt this squad is anything like as good as most Rovers supporters are assuming it to be.

You are right.

Murphy and Etuhu have only shown quality in glimpses this season - I don't think another manager would make Etuhu be able to turn any quicker or become more mobile for example.

Generally we have far too many flair players in the squad - some have ability but they are still raw/inconsistent. Physically, we lack any real presence, particularly up front.

In saying that, results have been very poor since Berg took over and I would like to know why Givet is not playing. Need to be realistic in that West Ham, for example, could only go up through the Play Offs last season and they had a very capable manager.

Our best first XI is still comfortably better than theirs.

Venky's and Kean did a lot of harm to the squad but I am simply not buying this oft trotted out line that the squad is to blame.

Our best first XI is in the top six in the league IMO.

Our manager most certainly isn't.

What criteria are you employing to come out with that nonsense?

Individually our players might look good on paper but the squad is desperately imbalanced.

Berg can sod off as far as I'm concerned. God knows why he's still leaving out Givet and Simon.

:wstu:

'Simon' came on for the last 10 mins and contributed significantly to Burnleys equaliser.

...in a nutshell.

You could replace McCarthy for all of Mercerman's names and more, and it'd still be true.

Couple more games and the pointless "SOS Mark Hughes" will start.

The sooner people get used to the idea the better.

Rubbish. A no-nonsense proper English manager like McCarthy would get more out of this squad.

McCArthy chose to play for the Republic of Ireland whilst our best and most successful days have been under Kenny, Souness and Hughes. Please remind us all....... Which of those are English?

Yeah, the hissyfits and spoilt brat syndrome has to stop, gets tiresome.

  • Backroom

season was over when it started with the fraud still in charge, if no money is available in Janruary then not even Mourinho could get this squad promoted.

I'm still in the mindset of being made up the bald liar is gone and pitying Berg having to work with this trash...............Only peev is why the hell is Simon not starting every match

Weren't we second or there abouts when Kean was sacked?

I remember thinking it was perfect as we'd had a great start points wise and he was gone

It may be financially motivated but A big mistake has been made imo in not having a complete clearout behind the scenes and not allowing Berg to bring in his own backroom staff.

Over the last three seasons a losing mindset and mentality has become the norm. That needed sweeping out completely.

Indications at the moment are that after some promising early signs the players have settled back into their old routine and comfort zone and if we don't manage say to hang onto a lead towards the end of a game, or even put in a performance, so what? They still get paid, as do the coaching staff. The headline name may have changed but beneath that you start to wonder if anything has really changed at all.

Just hope Berg stays true to his footballing principles. We did manage some extremely good stuff at times when Rochina was conducting proceedings in the middle. One shocking game, the fans bay for change and Berg ditches his preferred style of play. Going back to the future in the hope that a freeloader like Pedersen can improve your fortunes is a recipe for certain disaster, nor in my view are players with no real ability like Lowe going to pull up any trees either.

Too early to judge Berg but, that said Kean managed fourteen points from seven games with this squad, Berg has six from the same number of games. Big improvement needed and quickly.

To be honest, I haven't been impressed with Berg so far. I know it is very early days but I cannot see what he is trying to do. During Blacks caretaker reign we looked more difficult to beat. Under Berg we are playing a slightly faster more direct version of Keans football.

Huddersfield & Brum games were a vast improvement on anything under Kean. Posh were rubbish but we did the job, Millwall too many key players had an off day but i thought they did a job on us and were superb. Bolton was a massive step back to the coco days, very poor.

I'd agree with most of that Rev, the players need a good shake up. It hasn't really happened yet.

Heres my two penneth, I saw something today which gave me real hope, I am a Berg fan and agree he has to start getting results and quickly or our season may be well over, however, I saw the defence with a resiliance I havent seen since the 'Flowers Bottle game' against Newcastle, the central defenders put their heads and bodies on the line to defend, not seen that before for many years, quite important, we have a striker who will score if given the service, now, in my opinion a wide player who can cross the ball and a box to box midfielder similar to Flitty and we may have a team here, Best to come back too and Adam Henley looks the business, wasnt fazed today, can defend and get forward, a proper full back, we arent far short of a team, despite what some may think but as I said earlier, Berg has to start getting results and quickly!

He has.

If we are not in the top six come Jan., I really fear for our club - it may well be bye, bye Rhodes.

Two things about today.

1. King is a real talent and if we can feed him enough he will scare defenses to death.

2. What was obvious from the 1st half was the defense had no out. Pedersen was too deep and narrow, this allowed burley to speed evenly and prevent attacks forming. Once king came on and started running at the full back, they had to pull across to double up. This left gaps on our right which we got the goal from.

If we had a speedy right winger allied to king, we would scare teams sh.tless. This creates space for Rhodes to exploit at his pace.

Who's the box to box midfielder? Honestly.

I think we have to be prepared to fail this season in terms of promotion. Any sensible owner would see this as a consolidation period where we recover from the disasters of the last 2 years which includes having an unsuitable and unfit squad.

So long as we invest well in January and are playing well towards the end of the season and cut our squad down to sensible numbers in both January and summer I'll be OK with that.

A knee-jerk reaction by the owners e.g. sack Berg if all those things happen but we don't go up and it'll be over for us I'm afraid.

Its going to cost them plenty for sure but its their fault. Totally deserving they they must wear the financial burden.

If they don't want to pay up and decide to sell, I'm OK with that too!

Vukcevic.

He can pretty much play across midfield. Decent passer, likes to arrive late in the box, takes people on. Stick him with someone like Lowe in the centre and we might actually create something.

And hello what? 10-15 million? Could buy quite a few decent "high-end" Championship players with that.

Then again, the usual suspects would just moan about them being good in this league but not in the Prem and we would just go back down anyway.

I'm also fairly confident that a player can't play for more than 2 clubs in a season.

I think a couple have before but one of those was an emergency loan, otherwise you're not allowed....could be wrong.
