Exiled in Toronto Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Presumably, if the results in the last 7 games are indicative that Berg might not be a good manager, then the results of the first seven games were indicative that Kean might be?

LeChuck Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 all Berg needs, is to go find out if Jermaine Jones is still available. Midfield general sorted. So Givet or Jermaine Jones for the midfield general? Come on, don't keep posting nonsense. Clean slate and all that.
Batman. Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 So Givet or Jermaine Jones for the midfield general? Come on, don't keep posting nonsense. Clean slate and all that. Iceman suggested Givet as midfield general?! That's amazing, and he's got my vote. He could slot into that role as successfully as Salgado didn't.
ABBEY Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Defo worth a try for me . We ain't got a tackler in midfield . Desperate times now . Like when hendry or Samba were played as strikers
yoda's brother Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Defo worth a try for me . We ain't got a tackler in midfield . Desperate times now . Like when hendry or Samba were played as strikers probably get sent off in the first 5 minutes
Andy Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Defo worth a try for me . We ain't got a tackler in midfield . Desperate times now . Like when hendry or Samba were played as strikers Except Hendry and Samba were both strikers earlier in their careers, whereas Givet has never been a midfielder. That said, worth a try...can't do any worse than Etuhu.
Backroom Mike E Posted December 5, 2012 Backroom Posted December 5, 2012 The kindest way to describe the Givet idea is 'creative'. Even if he did that, we'd end up playing a flat back 5. For me, the solution is simply to eave the job of sitting in front of the back 4 to Lowe and have that be his ONLY job all game. Let the other 5 who make up the midfield and forward combination get forward where possible.
Boner Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I remember Warnock being moved to centre mid for a spell and being average. I don't think Givet has got the legs or temperament for that position.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 If you looking to experiment why not try the good Ollsen in centre midfield.
Batman. Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I remember Warnock being moved to centre mid for a spell and being average. I don't think Givet has got the legs or temperament for that position. But he's got the hair so f**k it. It'd be a right laugh, and it's been a while since we had one of those.
thenodrog Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I didn't take to Diouf even when he played for us. Never really got past the Bolton penalty dive. So after the Burnley away match a few years ago Olsson isn't one of your favourites either then? Knowing Venky's, they will give him some money to spend in January, then sack him in February. I'm not sure Berg will have any cash unless he frees up some money by reducing the squad first..... at least thats the sensible way David Brown had Souness operate under a decade or so ago. Really ? Some of the defending has been as bad as under Kean. Black's short time in charge saw the defence tighten up considerably but Berg has made no difference as far as I can see. People keep mentioning Black but... a. He is still here. b. Hendry has been the defensive coach under 3 managers now. Where does his input come under scrutiny?
47er Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Back to the topic------Henning Berg! Regardless of what any of us think are the reasons, Venkys dream of promotion this season is dying before their eyes. If he continues to " accumulate" points at his current rate he will get the sack. What happens next I dread to think.
Batman. Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Why are so many people certain that Berg will get the sack if things don't pick up soon? Did I dream the last two years?
47er Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 You do have a good point there. I just think that Kean was a big part of a plan and was very close to them whereas Berg isn't. The plan went keans up and finance is now a critical issue.

Regardless of what any of us think are the reasons, Venkys dream of promotion this season is dying before their eyes. If he continues to " accumulate" points at his current rate he will get the sack. Berg is Shebby's pick as manager - there's no way he will get the sack. Remember also Venky's could not bring themselves to sack Kean so it's highly unlikely they will give Berg the chop. If results continue to nosedive I can see however Berg as an honourable man tendering his resignation at some point - something the lamentable Kean failed to do until it was far too late.
RibbleValleyRover Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Why are so many people certain that Berg will get the sack if things don't pick up soon? Did I dream the last two years? If we don't get promoted then I think there is a very good chance he will get the sack. I think the days of having a bullet-proof manager started and ended at Rovers with Kean.
philipl Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 The results in the first seven games gave us the most freaking lucky run of points in all my time following Rovers. Our performances were diabolically rubbish but kept nicking wins. Berg deserves all the support we can give him because he is surrounded by utter rubbish.

Agreed and to a man the word on here was we were crap and lucky yet now some seem to be forgetting that and focusing only on the results. Which had already started to take a turn. People are singing Blacks praises now but at the time more said they would boycott if he got the job.

I totally agree - Berg is clearly a "cheap" option and has taken the job with the proviso that the back room staff stay (again for what can only be financial reasons) What other new manager would not have brought in his own people by now? I think our present league position is levelling out to where our performances have been since day one of the season Berg needs our 100% backing - this mess is not of his doing!
Amo Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Eric Black seemed to be going down the Hughes & Allardyce route. First and foremost, make us difficult to beat and grind out some clean sheets. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a defensive masterclass under Black but he certainly looked like shoring things up. Then Berg came in and tried to get us playing attacking football again, and it just hasn't clicked so far. We look shaky at the back again and I never expect us to hold onto a clean sheet. Gotta get back to basics.

martonrover Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I would go halfway house. The squad isn't capable of promotion but Berg's results to date have been worse than they should've been. Bad luck? Maybe, but an improvement is needed quickly or we'll soon be looking down rather than up for other results.
OJRovers Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Ipswich away 1-0 up Leeds away 3-1 up Derby away 1-0 up Charlton away 1-0 up Burnley away 1-0 up Huddersfield away 2-1 up We got 6 points from those games, win 3/6 and that would have been 12 points and us in the playoff positions.

But how many games have we come from behind in to gets points? I'm not sure that set of fixtures says anything. That's just football.
Salgado Is A Hero Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 But how many games have we come from behind in to gets points? I'm not sure that set of fixtures says anything. That's just football. Two wins against Barnsley and Bristol City from going a goal down.....and a draw against H'field. I disagree about all the dropped points not meaning anything. Rest assured, if a manager saw that his team had gone at least a goal up away from home on six occasions without winning one of them, he would be trying to do something about it. We should have the experience in our team to know how to close out a game.
