USABlue Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Head in the sand. He's only here because he's a former player and Shebby thought his appointment would please supporters. NO, NO NO. If he wanted to please supporters he only needed read this board there was several candidates on here that most would have been happy with. Shebby the NEW football genius did it to please himself and himself only, the tw@ts playing a goddamned game with our football team.

Doug Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 So, now its being rumoured that Berg has taken stock of his backroom staff, doesn't feel they are good enough and has decided to refresh with his own choices, and some posters are unhappy!!!! Surely this is what you expect a manager to do. He has given them a chance, and they aren't good enough. How many management appointments don't involve a backroom shake up.......with the new managers choices coming in!!! I fear Berg is on a hiding to nothing.
USABlue Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 I'm simply going by the fact that Black has been the only one to date who knew how to keep it tight at the back. I'm not doubting the integrity of Short, but it's looking a bit like jobs for the boys right now with Henning if these guys are brought in and Hendry kept. But it doesn't make any sense does it. Hendry has been here through all three tenures as has Black, we can see Black and Henning conversing so what gives. Did Black totally push Hendry out the way in "shoring up our defence? Or did Hendry perhaps for the first time under Black have HIS way, if Black can sort it why is it not still happening now Berg is here I am sure Berg would listen to Black or he would not have kept him now would he. Surely if he was to ignore Blacks input then Black would not have been kept. If Black has Berg's ear then why the crap again. This whole thing can be twisted to suit or serve one's own view points
Majiball Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Hendry and Henning are obviously mates from there playing days and he clearly doesn't want to sack him and leave him with nothing. Jobs for the boys.....
Blackpool_Rover Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 If Black goes then thanks Eric and good luck. He's done alright under difficult circumstances and his few games in charge could prove to be very important at the end of the season whether it's in terms of promotion or relegation...not only for the points he got but also the goal difference! I'm fully behind Berg. It's a tough tough job and we need to stick together and support the players to fight for a play off spot. I don't see any sense in booing them. I know they get paid a lot of money BUT in my opinion their below par performances are what we get for sticking with the same team as last year. No player is going to be motivated dropping down a league. We should have done a bit more in terms of transfers and got more players willing to fight for the cause (Rhodes, Richards etc). Long way to go and we are 4 points behind the play offs. Exciting league.
The Gull Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Shock, new manager wants to work with poeple who he knows and trusts. If we manage to get promoted there will still be negative remarks on here, "we nearly threw it away", "imagine if we hadn't got promoted" etc etc. Our hands are tied and we just need to see how it goes over the next few months, it might help if we support the team rather than bitching about every single frigging decision. Berg has inherited squad that is low on confidence and self belief, been under coached and under prepared for TWO YEARS. Freshening up the backroom team is surely one of the steps to eradicating the previous regime and starting again. We need to go back to basics, but we also have the pressure of expected promotion. It will take time, and a bit of luck to get anywhere near where this squad should be.
martonrover Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Nice situation for Mimms, knowing he's a gonner if we land Brad. Hope this Norwegian geezer shares Henning's 'vision'.
chaddyrovers Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 berg and bergdamlo worked together at Lillistrom in Norway. people wants Berg to change coaching staff so he does and people still not happy wonder who will be coaching goalkeepers if mimms leave now? youth team gk coach?
bypass06 Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Blackburn Rovers boss wants quality not quantity http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/blackburn_rovers/news/10100445.Blackburn_Rovers_boss_wants_quality_not_quantity/
booth Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 So to sum up: 1) When we lost matches under Kean it was because he was a rubbish manager and we had a decent squad that was being badly managed. 2) Now we are losing even more matches under Berg he is in fact a good manager but the squad is rubbish. Time to face the truth: Shebby the idiot Global Advisor (sic) has appointed another lemon as manager. Harshly worded as I believe Berg has potential but the last thing we needed was another man at the helm learning his trade.
Backroom Tom Posted December 11, 2012 Backroom Posted December 11, 2012 According to andy cryer our old mate Judan Ali is coming in this week to job shadow Berg and further his education He's going to have a job here eventually for sure I have no basis for this but have a feeling Berg will be sacked if we lose the next two, 5 losses and one draw out of six would certainly be alarming If we manage to beat Blackpool we can go into the Brighton game with a bit of confidence and do them as well though
mhead Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 In the bleak mid-winter the concept of Craig Short returning and maybe Brad as well is of great consolation. Top guys with great spirit and determination. We need it now on the field. Dispirited at the moment. Shebby....why can't we play Givet and Vuckevic??? Why? Why? Why?
Steve Moss Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 I think Berg bringing in his own staff is long overdue. But considering how long it took them to approve Kean's replacement, perhaps we should be grateful he was able to change any staff at all.

Not sure!!
thenodrog Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 If Berg does not bring in many (or any) players in January does he get to use the "squad he's inherited" excuse for the whole season? Do you expect a manager to pay for players himself DE4life? If not it then depends on whether he is given any funds to move in and ship out. I've got to say at this point that I'm not in favour of sacking Berg nor in favour of giving him a long contract at this moment in time BUT I do believe in giving him a chance... something that quite a few have not done to date and some even appear to be revelling in his current predicament. I don't remember many fans deeming our squad far too poor to even challenge for promotion from the Championship before Berg arrived. Well you must have me on ignore then. I've said frequently that not one out of this current squad would make the team in 2000/2001....... in fact I'm getting so tired of repeating it I've a mind to make it my sig.
Backroom Tom Posted December 11, 2012 Backroom Posted December 11, 2012 And Berg changes his backroom staff, pays the old lot off, then Berg sacked and another lot to be paid off? Not sure!! True enough but that hasn't happened just yet If he is allowed to bring his staff in this week it's definitely a positive sign
thenodrog Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 My memory is very good actually. I'm not after somebody to guide us to 6th in the Premier League and our first Major Domestic trophy in over half a century, just somebody to get a bunch of under-performing second tier players playing to their potential, and with a few adjustments, back into the top flight. So you rem Dom Matteo at left wing with Gresko alongside Amoruso behind him perhaps? GS didn't manage to get them playing to their potential did he? Similar with Grabbi and Stead although to be fair neither of em had any potential to play to did they?
Amo Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Well you must have me on ignore then. I've said frequently that not one out of this current squad would make the team in 2000/2001....... in fact I'm getting tired of repeating it. I don't think you'll ever get tired of repeating yourself.
thenodrog Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 To hopefully show that things can turn around - even after having since the previous March to mould the squad as Souness wanted it - early 2000 season we had this series of results :- D, W, L, L, D, L, L Following this we went on 6 straight victories. Struggle to remember - but from what I remember Hughes was the catalyst to the winning run - prior to that we looked anything but promotion candidates. Anyone remember this sequence of results :- L, L, L, L, L, L, D, W, D, W A certain K. Dalglish seeing his team limp into the play offs. Leaving BRFc aside KMD hasn't had the best managerial career has he? A good example of managers only being as good as the squads they inherit might be Avram Grant. He did extremely well for them after following Mourhino at Chelsea (who else would have wanted to do that ffs?) for one season and then bombed completely at Pompey and WHU.
RibbleValleyRover Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Do you expect a manager to pay for players himself DE4life? If not it then depends on whether he is given any funds to move in and ship out. I don't think people are 'revelling in his current predicament', if there are then it would be a minority. Personally I didn't want Berg because I wanted someone with more experience but I don't take any pleasure in seeing him and therefore Rovers struggling. I am really concerned about the future. The players don't seem to have taken to Berg at all, usually you see some kind of new managerial bounce (even small) but that hasn't happened at Rovers. There could be a number of reasons for this for example loyalty to Kean (rumoured he pretty much let them do what they wanted to) or maybe they just don't have the capacity to play at a higher level because they aren't good enough or don't have it in them. We all know we have a lot of past it players and dross in the squad. I can't see the transfer window making much difference as we are stuck with this dross until their contracts run out. With Venky's spending a large amount of money at the beginning of the season it wouldn’t surprise me if the only way Berg has money to spend in January is to sell first. The whole squad needs revamping, it's not a case of one or two players will transform the club and have us pushing for promotion. People say it is still too early to make a prediction on whether we will get promoted or not, I don't think it is. I am pretty confident to say right now that Rovers will not get promoted this season. If I am proven wrong then great and fantastic.
tomphil Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 There will be more to this Jurdan Ali thing than meets the eye. It's been on the cards for a very long time.
thenodrog Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Brilliant, so Black who did a decent job goes, while the alcoholic who has helped to mould our defence into the current shambles stays. You obviously know all their contract details (which will have been put together by Kean.... to suit Kean might I add) so could you enlighten us all please?
Amo Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Can't blame Berg for wanting his own right-hand man. Thanks for the memories, Eric. Keeping 'Big Col' on the gravy train, however...
thenodrog Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Blackburn Rovers boss wants quality not quantity http://www.lancashir...y_not_quantity/ Alleleuja! back to Big Sam's way I hope. A smaller squad and wage bill with a very strong spine through the middle of the team surrounded by lots of capable strong players who can play in many positions rather than two bog ordinary for every position and umpteen lightweight inside forwards. We all know (now) that it makes sense. I don't think you'll ever get tired of repeating yourself. Not so long as the board is full of people with memories shorter than the average goldfish.
tomphil Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Moving Hendry simply saves paying him off. Berg having his own men is fair enough but Black knows this division and these players more than another nobody so it's another risk. Have to say since Black has been coach we've been mostly awful but in his short stint in charge he shored things up and stopped the rot. Bloody awful to watch but he showed enough to know this team isn't strong enough to play open football so the only option was to grind out some results, back to basics. It's time for that approach again, it's no good long term but short term it's stops the rot. Over to you Henning & friend & Colin, Craig, Jurdan, Shebby, Balaji & Son and whoever else is putting their two penneth in !
