Tyrone Shoelaces Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 If we don't go up this season ( with all the financial implications for the club ) will Bergs appointment be seen a success or a failure ?
folkdevil Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 See Brian Reade's been at it again! http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/the-brian-reade-column-why-arsenal-and-chelsea-1413468
Amo Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 If we don't go up this season ( with all the financial implications for the club ) will Bergs appointment be seen a success or a failure ? Failure, of course. But let's find out first, eh? See Brian Reade's been at it again! http://www.mirror.co...chelsea-1413468 To be honest, any other club and I'd have chuckled at it. He's got a point.
JAL Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 If we don't go up this season ( with all the financial implications for the club ) will Bergs appointment be seen a success or a failure ? Absolutely nothing to do with Henning Berg if we dont go up... absolutely nothing.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Absolutely nothing to do with Henning Berg if we dont go up... absolutely nothing. That's not really answering the question.
Backroom Mike E Posted November 4, 2012 Backroom Posted November 4, 2012 As far as I'm concerned, top half is the least I expect. Play-offs (whether we go up or not) is a success and Auto-promotion is bloody wonderful. But that's as a fan. As far as the club's rumoured financial situation goes, we NEED to go up.
JAL Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 That's not really answering the question. You should'nt really be asking that question so early in his Rovers managerial career. Think of it as a success if he can turn the club around come january thats all. Venkys will have failed us if we dont get promotion not Henning Berg
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 That's the trouble with some Rovers fans at the moment, they're so keaned up they're letting their hearts rule their heads. The implications of failing to gain promotion this season are life changing for the club, but that's alright, just don't ask any awkward questions.!
dingles staying down 4ever Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 From Shebby's words after the appointment, failure to get promoted has to be deemed failure.
chaddyrovers Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Anyone know what coaching badges Berg has got? he got all his coaching badges

Its not the fans or Henning Bergs fault that the club is in this position, anyone thinking so has to be 'keaned' up.
booth Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 It's also not his fault that he should have been appointed weeks ago to get a head start with the job.
JAL Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 From Shebby's words after the appointment, failure to get promoted has to be deemed failure. That in itself deflects blame and criticism from himself and the owners. The question is are the fans gullible enough to buy into that.
John Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Maybe it is because I want it to happen but would like to see some changes to back room staff ASAP, just think fresh faces are needed- don't mind Black staying on but a top class coach appointment. Interested to see who (if anyone) is appointed and also what is done re sports science dept/fitness coach - do we have one at the moment?
Amo Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 I know football supporters are a fickle breed, and I've seen many a knee jerked on this forum (and will happily include myself in that). But even I'm not going to slaughter Berg or raise eyebrows over his appointment after one match. If there's no sign of improvement over the next few games then the knives will be out, and understandably so. Until such time, Berg deserves the support and unity of the fans despite the series of events that brought him to the club.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 That in itself deflects blame and criticism from himself and the owners. The question is are the fans gullible enough to buy into that. Most probable. But deflecting in such a way, only bounces back at them after such an extensive recruitment drive!

I'm gonna give it a couple of months.....Hughes won 2 of his first 14 games in charge in the league.
tonyoz Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 I'm gonna give it a couple of months.....Hughes won 2 of his first 14 games in charge in the league. Hmm...that helps to put it in perspective doesn't it? And...........if we have to sack him in 2 months there will likely be some new applicants: Hughes, O'Neill, Rodgers............
damo100 Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Pathetic over reaction by certain fans re Berg!! Not his fault he's inherited a very unfit (mental/physical) squad of players, thanks largely to Mr Kean. It will take time to improve this, time which Henning would have had if he got the job as soon as we were relegated back in May! God only knows why Kean wasn't sacked. Will the truth ever come out! Lets concentrate on the future now, and after hearing Bergs comments after defeat Yesterday, i feel much more optimistic regarding what Berg can bring to our club. The most glaringly obvious thing is lack of effort from majority of our players, no pace in squad, poor concentration, seemingly no gameplan, unfit (2nd half in most games are terrible), all these stem from almost 2 years of bad management from the one and only Mr Steve Kean! Lets all hope Berg can improve on these matters, but we have to show patience and give him time. Realistically, i would say this season would be a massive success if we could get anywhere near the playoffs. I believe next season would be a better time to judge Berg, after he would have delved into the transfer market and hopefully ship out some of the dead wood that is like a virus on our club, both players and backroom staff alike!
BlueMonday Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Hmm...that helps to put it in perspective doesn't it? And...........if we have to sack him in 2 months there will likely be some new applicants: Hughes, O'Neill, Rodgers............ After the Shebby Circus Act of the last 5 weeks, I wouldn't imagine anyone of pedigree applying or even wanting to associated with the job. A lot of damage was done. And if promotion is so vital to Venkys why have they choosen someone who by their own definition is someone who is up and coming and will need time to grow. Surely Berg is a long term appointment. It doesn't make sense.
Mercer Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 I believe next season would be a better time to judge Berg, after he would have delved into the transfer market and hopefully ship out some of the dead wood that is like a virus on our club, both players and backroom staff alike! The problem is, who the feck would want our expensive 'deadwood' ? Easier said than done and if you were a player, for example Murphy, would you take a thirty or forty grand a week pay cut ! We are in the deepest of sh1t ! A new manager that inherits a decent squad has half a chance, one who inheits a squad like Rovers, IMO, has little or no chance.
tonyoz Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 A new manager that inherits a decent squad has half a chance, one who inheits a squad like Rovers, IMO, has little or no chance. Indeed! So there's only one option: back Berg to the hilt. I'm sure folk will - I expect Ewood to be rocking come that first home game.
Steve Kean's Hypnotoad Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Well I ain't over-reacting. Said it was a terrible appointment before Palace and maintain its one after. You can make excuses for Berg tactically given how little time he's been in the job. But what's his excuse for the players playing without an ounce of motivation or fire? Look at Bolton's performance against Cardiff, unpolished but passionate. That's what's supposed to happen when a new manager comes in. We're in deep trouble because we took yet another risk.
