JAL Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 I think you are spot on here and I think it is indicative of just how precarious our finances are. I have flagged earlier that I think we need to be in a challenging position at beginning of Jan. otherwise, Venky's might just hit the panic button and we could see the departure of the likes of Rhodes, Olsson1 and young Henley. Lots of speculation doing the rounds about changes in backroom staff when Berg apointed ranging from him being allowed to bring just one of his own in to him clearing the lot out as not impressed ! I think the main problem might be the affordability of paying-off messrs Hendry, Black & Brunskill. The supposed recruitment of a new number 2, as I have posted earlier, seems to resemble the recuitment of our new manager and seems in danger of hitting the buffers completely. Berg can't do it all himself and needs a sounding board that he can trust and Black might be that man, however, I am not at all sure what value, if any, Brunskill and Hendry bring to the party. Is Henning a yes man! They've set it up to claim that he isnt, maybe, maybe not, we shall just have to wait and see what develops over the coming months to gain a better understanding. Right now i'll say that Henning Berg doesnt have the tools at his disposal to get Rovers promoted this time around.

jim mk2 Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Very impressed so far with Berg and that was the best I have seen us play in years. I would love to see Givet given a place in the team and believe him and Dann are ideal for us going forward. Givet and Dann aren't very good going forward in my opinion, much better as defenders.
chaddyrovers Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Berg is very happy to keep Black, Brunskill and Hendry on his coaching staff. he said this on Rovers player last week and in LT aswell.
Amo Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Berg is very happy to keep Black, Brunskill and Hendry on his coaching staff. he said this on Rovers player last week and in LT aswell. Perhaps he doesn't have much choice?
Torgeir Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Perhaps he doesn't have much choice? Plausible, but my guess is him and Hendry get along well from their playing days, and why would he get rid of Black? Brunskill has got 'skill' in his name so he must have something about him
ABBEY Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 You have factored in the fact that we were playing Peterborough in the Championship Abbey? I've factored EVERY game bergs been here has been on the floor footy , i
Plastics Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Very excited under this man. Not saying we'll get to the heights of where we were but it's an obvious step in the right direction with this man in charge. Things could all fall apart again, but it's obvious he's an actual manager.
imy9 Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Givet and Dann aren't very good going forward in my opinion, much better as defenders. Lol. Going forward as in as a club;)
Kelbo Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Perhaps he doesn't have much choice? I have heard, how true it is I am not sure, but Henning has a free reign football wise but obviously within budget, Shebby is not pulling the strings on Berg, trust me on that one!!
LDRover Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Well IMO, he needs to get rid of the remaining stench of Kean that remains on the coaching staff. Hendry and Black should go and his own staff brought in. It doesn't sit easy with me the way those two villified supporters and nailed their colours to the Kean mast. When Berg got the job he pointed at the badge and said, 'it's not about individuals, it's about this'. I don't think the other two, especially Hendry, are in it for the badge.
John Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Bit harsh on Black who is known as one of the good (and honest) guys in the game.
LDRover Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Maybe so John, but he was quite happy having a pop at the fans last season in the media.
thenodrog Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 How do you explain ( not just you) berg getting this team playing football when alls you preached was hoofball was the only way this group of players could play? Comparing Prem league / Championship are apples and pears Abbey. Last time we were in this Div Souey had us very successfully playing 3-5-2 built around the talents of Berkovitz. It suited the squad and from then on we cruised the division....then we went to arsenal in the FA Cup and tried it there! We were hammered. We have a goodish squad for this Division but we all know from last year that it was not good enough for the Prem.
thenodrog Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Are you sure you are female gumboots? Lest we forget..... gumboots judges managers primarily on what they look like.
neophox Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Berg is doing a good job at the moment. But in a month we will probably winning all our games. He knows tactics.

Kean was the problem and didnt listen to his coaching staff view. watching yesterday game, Berg and Black was talking to each other alot during the game, so must get on well.

Kean was the problem and didnt listen to his coaching staff view. watching yesterday game, Berg and Black was talking to each other alot during the game, so must get on well. Chaddy - I think you might be missing the point. He might well HAVE to be happy with them for financial restrictions. When he came in, there was a lot of speculation that he would be the proverbial new broom and we would see a new backroom staff. Black might fit his bill as a number 2 but what value do either Brunskill or Hendry add ?
John Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 If Berg was to bring anyone in, wonder if it would be from Norway or the UK - he wasn't in employment therefore wasn't currently working with an assistant, coach etc. Would be bit odd IMO if no one is brought in for the back room team soon - certainly on the sports science side we have lost quality individuals in recent years.
perthblue02 Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 With the bonus of having got to see two live games on the trot, what a joy it was seeing a manager on the touchline, advising, coaching, passionate, knowing what he wanted and what needed doing in the interests of BRFC. Is it too big a task of achieving promotion this season? I'm 50/50 at the moment but pretty confident with the way things are going so far next season we will be dead certs if we don't make it this season as long as the loons in pune don't do anything stupid
gumboots Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Lest we forget..... gumboots judges managers primarily on what they look like. Not quite true Gordon. Were that true I wouldn't employ a manager at all as I can't think of one who'd be worth employing
Amo Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Not quite true Gordon. Were that true I wouldn't employ a manager at all as I can't think of one who'd be worth employing Not even Joachim Low?
Gav Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 if Berg is happy with Black, Brunskill and Hendry then its fine with me. Hendry should be nowhere near the current setup, the mans a scumbag, simple as that. Agnew has withdrawn into the shadows, I hope he's been sussed as a fraud also. The club would be a better place without those two degenerates.
Mercer Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 I think Millwall will be a good test of how we have progressed so far under Berg. They are a difficult, uncompromising and well organised side to play against and are on an unbeaten run of about 10, I think. A 2-2 draw at Palace, who mullered us, is testimony to that. None the less, I am pretty confident how things are shaping-up and I'll be going for Rovers 2-1.
thenodrog Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Would be bit odd IMO if no one is brought in for the back room team soon - certainly on the sports science side we have lost quality individuals in recent years. Can these and similar not be freelance positions?
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Not quite true Gordon. Were that true I wouldn't employ a manager at all as I can't think of one who'd be worth employing Take no notice Gumboots, I've always been impressed with your knowledge of football and Rovers.
