Steve Moss Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Perhaps another bullet dodged. Berg's appointment is looking better by the day. If this keeps up, many of us will owe Shebby an apology.

Mercer Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 A lot of supporters were hoping that Hughes would leave QPR and rejoin Rovers. This article might put an end to any such romantic notion. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/nov/19/qpr-mark-hughes As I have said on this MB before, Hughes was fantastic for Rovers but at 49, the tag of 'bright young thing' seems a thing of the past and, IMO, he seems to have lost that edge. Perhaps now one of yesterday's men.
Steve Kean's Hypnotoad Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 If it really did come down to a choice between Berg and Holloway, maybe we had a lucky escape. http://www.bbc.co.uk...otball/20392765 Some heavy criticism in there from Evatt. Berg's attitude to training was obvious from his first day when he insisted on having the press conference at 8:30am, and the fairly rapid transformation in playing style can only be down to hard work on the training field. Surely thats pretty meaningless though when put into the context of the start he's had with Palace. Holloway probably just got bored at Blackpool and Evatt probably just didn't like him. If this keeps up, many of us will owe Shebby an apology. I'll apologise to Shabby only if we get promoted. An away win at second-bottom of the league is a long way from that. Happy we've got off the mark with Berg though, still have my doubts but fingers crossed he proves me wrong.

Holloway probably just got bored at Blackpool and Evatt probably just didn't like him. If the comment about not working on defence in training is true then Crystal Palace might come unstuck. He took them over at a fantastic time - they were on a great run, playing well and full of confidence. If he was in charge of us I'd read about him giving players all that time off and not working on defence (something that is easily believable with Blackpool's defensive record), then I would be worried.
Guest Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 If this keeps up, many of us will owe Shebby an apology. The decision wasn't Shebby's. It came from Pune.
Majiball Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 The decision wasn't Shebby's. It came from Pune. When they break even on correct decisions against wrong ones we'll give them some praise. I believe it's currently 652347856 to break even point, meaning praise should commence once we're in the champions league.
philipl Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 The decision wasn't Shebby's. It came from Pune. And I was getting flak for suggesting that all kinds of nonsense went on prior to Berg's appointment....

And I was getting flak for suggesting that all kinds of nonsense went on prior to Berg's appointment.... All kinds of nonsense??
JAL Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 We conceded the third least number of goals in the Championship and people are slagging off Hendry for being a poor defensive coach, or at least getting the position for reasons other than his ability. Eric Black lost only one game in his several matches in charge and won two, but he should go because of his remarks about Kean deserving a knightship last season. Berg's two assistants have been working in the Norwegian League and one of them has gotten his team relegated, that's probably why Berg isn't bringing in new people or people he has worked with before. They've already moved on or, y'know, made a mess of it. We've conceded over a goal a game so far and have conceded goals to the bottom three teams in this league. If you takeout the four at Peterborough, and the five at Bristol, we are barely scoring a goal per game as well. Major improvements in the personnel still required for the club to reach their target this season.
CrazyIvan Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 All kinds of nonsense?? Don't worry about PhilipL, it's just rhetoric.

xtp Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 The decision wasn't Shebby's. It came from Pune. I'm sure the final decision came from Pune, but it seems very apparent that he had a key influence in the decision-making process. Unless you're suggesting that Mrs Desai's meticulous knowledge of Norwegian football was the motivating factor...
Backroom Tom Posted November 19, 2012 Backroom Posted November 19, 2012 If this keeps up, many of us will owe Shebby an apology. No chance If it works out its more by luck than judgement
trueblueroversiloveu Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 No chance If it works out its more by luck than judgement You can't say if it all works out fine its by luck. Rumours aside he was appointed on the basis of the interview he gave and other various factors. If it works out fine then it was a damn good move and if it doesn't it was a stupid move. Credit where its due (if its due) not luck No chance If it works out its more by luck than judgement You can't say if it all works out fine its by luck. Steve Moss Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 If it works out its more by luck than judgement To paraphrase Napoleon, better lucky generals than skilled.

Easy this making up stats to prove a point We're off hitting the target cn174 thats the point. Only one player so far has dont his job consistantly, Jordan Rhodes. With the rest of his team mates being far from consistant or of the level required to get the results required.
Salgado Is A Hero Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Rhodes is a finisher who almost exclusively relies on service. If he's been scoring recently, it means our other players must be doing something right. We're not conceding too often either.

Dont just judge a team on when they have the ball alone, its key to judge them on when they are out of possession. How do they all perform when defending as a team, can they all put a foot in and win the ball from an opponent.
chris_h Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Dont just judge a team on when they have the ball alone, i Isn't that sort of what you were doing a few posts up? (Whilst chalking off 8 legitimate goals in the process)
JAL Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Isn't that sort of what you were doing a few posts up? (Whilst chalking off 8 legitimate goals in the process) No the post was originally about Colin Hendry supposedly doing wonders for our team defensively.

Rumours aside he was appointed on the basis of the interview he gave and other various factors. If it works out fine then it was a damn good move and if it doesn't it was a stupid move. Credit where its due (if its due) not luck You certainly can say that - whether its true or not is open to interpretation Maybe saying its ALL luck is a little overboard but there would certainly be an element of luck to it in my opinion I actually like Shebby when I hear him speak, he gets carried away at times but means well but I just don't think Berg would have been in his top 2 or 3 choices and if rumours are to be believed he would have offered Mckinlay the job if he could have. I'm glad that Henning obviously impressed in his interview, early days but there are promising signs
tonyoz Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 does anyone else not think that as Berg arrived it was like someone stumbling upon an underfed, wrongly treated puppy that was close to death and it has been found (berg appointed) and slowly but surely the puppy is well fed and walked and starts to get back to full strength and will be a fully grown dog in the coming weeks right in time for our match v Burnley? Or have I really really read into Cantona comments too much? Ruben been keeping you up late Ralf? :xmas: All kinds of nonsense?? Please don't ask!! Maybe saying its ALL luck is a little overboard but there would certainly be an element of luck to it in my opinion I'm glad that Henning obviously impressed in his interview, early days but there are promising signs I got the impression that the favoured candidate(s) were either unavailable or ruled themselves out (one or two of them right at the death)? Maybe Henning saved their bacon?

With a previous defender at the helm, who also happens to be a real football manager, I think we're gonna see a lot more of that from now on. Constant closing down and putting a foot in requires exceptional fitness.....if we had been closing down as much as we did under Hughes, we would be knackered before 30 mins.

Missed a bit on winning headers aswell when required. One main reason recently of why we've conceded goals has been by standard crosses coming into our central defensive areas and we've failed to clear them .
