can we not all just get along and watch our team slowly improve? we have got better in each of Berg's games. The fitness is slowly coming back so we will continue to get better each week. Yes we will loose the odd match but thats football. Lets all be nice and post constructive critisism not just having a go at each other just for the sake of it. We are going through a transitional perido now and I serisouly think we will be right up there come the end of the season and I think we WILL go up this season

Such positivity Ralphino, such positivity. It's good to see i returning to these boards.

I am just getting excited for the up coming grudge match. we will be playing the dingles on our upward part on the performance graph I think we will peak after the hectic Xmas period and stay there until the end of the season!!

Perhaps Majiball may help here regarding fitness, Murphy has said Berg is doing shorter sessions yet much more intense, what would the benefite be physically if this were the case? Over to you Maji!

Sound like short sessions of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) to boost stamina and sharpness

It sounds like Beg wants training to mirror the way he wants to play.

Yes, I understand HIIT but what would be the actual physical results, speed, sharpness, weightloss etc?

Would this be done with or without the ball? majiball works at a pro club and he may just know what the benefits are regarding footballers!

Let's hope that we are.

I want to see us on the up for the next few months, be a team to be feared. One that they don't want to meet.

But first, we must dispense with the tribe from up the road....

Physical results would be a greater endurance (stamina) so the players will be able to cope fully for 90 mins without getting too tired. Good article here about this particular training method

Now let's for a minute just suppose Berg had taken a 5-0 and 6-0 set back, what would your reaction be? I am sure it would not be as supportive as you are towards McCarthy. Perhaps some are being a little over enthusiastic but then again would we have turned them over like that with our previous regime. An emphatic no should be the answer. I suppose a win over Millwall won't do much to convince you either, solid as they seem to be. Seems to be a bit of a odd comparison seeing where us and Ipswich might be, we have a bit of a head start.

Obviously I don't expect Ipswich to overtake us but I do expect McCarthy to save a very poor Ipswich team from relegation. As for Berg obviously I hope he leads us straight back to the Premier League but we've made harder for ourselves by ignoring better and more experienced candidates.

Ipswich have got a decent squad of players, certainly good enough to avoid relegation. The likes of Danny Higginbotham, Nigel Reo Coker, DJ Campbell, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Carlos Edwards, Michael Chopra, Jason Scotland, Daryl Murphy... that's a stronger set of players than most Championship teams can boast. I think all those have PL experience, some have plenty.

The worrying thing for Ipswich fans has to be that McCarthy considers Bradley Orr and Tyrone Barnett as good signings.

I believe we do have the best squad in this league. I've believed that all season. I just don't think they have played to their potential. We are beginning to get closer to that level though and if we hit that then I'd fear nobody in this league, home or away. We are in a good position to have a late surge if it takes a while to get up to speed or we have any setbacks. I honestly can't see us missing the playoffs and automatic promotion is a real possibility, providing we don't lose a few key players of course.

Look at Reading last year leading up to Xmas, werent they near the bottom? They ended up winning the league

Tempting fate this. There are quite a few teams in this league with strong squads. And the nature of the championship is such that teamwork and a bit of luck are as important as quality.

I think we will do very well to be promoted. Too many unpredictable factors to be confident.

There is also a perception that our squad should walk the league because the wages some of the players are on (plus internationals on the bench or ex internationals). Granted we did pay £8 million for Rhodes which is a sizeable amount.

Folk need to take into account some of these players have not played well for a period of time now (whether that be loss of form or K**n).

I'm by no means saying that we deserve to go up based on the players we have. Promotion is earned. But with the players we have at our disposal, throughout the squad, I feel we are the strongest. There are other factors that come in to play outside of how good you are on paper of course, but there is no reason why this team can't compete with the desire required to make a massive impact on this league. If the last few games are a signal of a sea change which can be capitalised on then promotion can be earned with the players we have at our disposal. Of course there are strong squads in this league, and there are teams who on their day can match us or even turn us over if we don't turn up, but over a season if we play to our potential for a majority of matches then we really should have no problem. If every team in this league played to their ability week in week out then I think we would be top of the league.

But this is hypothetical, of course. I am by no means saying that we will get promoted, but we are more than capable of doing so with our personnel. There's no need to underplay our strengths, you can't tempt fate.

Puffsan, do you have any more opinions to add? I like the stuff you contributed about Henning Berg, and I hope you can share more. Like how do you think Berg has done so far? Is he doing the same as he did with Lyn and Lillestrom, or is he doing better or worse? Did he adopt the same tactics as back then, like the 4-4-1-1 you mentioned before (Rochina playing in the hole), and do you think it's working? Anything, just say anything. Thanks.

There are too many weaknesses in the squad such as lack of a decent forward to support Rhodes and no dominating centre half. The "best squad" in the league" was totally dominated by Palace and struggled to get a point off lowly Brum.

We are by far a finished article though. As I said, I'm only talking on paper.

We have three centre backs who would get into everybody else's team.

Like who Holloway, did you see the article on the BBC website from Everett , they did very little training in the last few months and no defensive training, glad he didn't come to us.
