[Archived] Henning Berg - Rovers Manager

It may also be a case that the bigger players are too egotistical to take trials.

I'm sure thats part of it too. I just think that the trial before buying approach stood Hughes in good stead and without it he seems to have lost his touch in the transfer market. I would guess that the players he has bought at City and QPR needed more scouting. Not just for ability but also to gain a better all round understanding of the personality of the player. QPR at the moment have got some very very good individual players but there is a unanimous lack of fight and desire which runs through the side at the moment. The extra pressure of struggling in the league has also seen players like Cisse lash out at fans, Zamora claim to dislike football and Rob Green voice his displeasure. OK the Green comments are probably understandable, but in a crisis do you really want Zamora and Cisse coming out with this tripe? It just feels like Hughes has bought a bunch of wrong-uns and it should have been avoidable with better research into the players personality. Christ, he'd even worked with Zamora at Fulham, he must've known the bloke has a penchant for being a gobshite.

It is good to be properly back in the promotion race.

So much to do that a fair assessment of Berg should not be given until next season but unfortunately the club's survival depends on promotion THIS season.

Henning has made a very promising start so far.

Puffsan, do you have any more opinions to add? I like the stuff you contributed about Henning Berg, and I hope you can share more. Like how do you think Berg has done so far? Is he doing the same as he did with Lyn and Lillestrom, or is he doing better or worse? Did he adopt the same tactics as back then, like the 4-4-1-1 you mentioned before (Rochina playing in the hole), and do you think it's working? Anything, just say anything. Thanks.

Well it's a bit early to tell, but we certainly look similar how Lillestrøm played in the start of his last season. The transformation has happened very quick, and that comes down to that he has taken over a good squad with technical quality who has the ability to play how he wants.

What i like most is that we play out from our back four and don't hoof it up midfield everytime which we did too much under both kean and big sam. The ball is kept mostly on the ground and we play around on our flanks for a cross or a good through ball. I hope we can get a bit more aggressive on retaining possession and attacking faster when we gain the ball.

I thought we played better vs Birmingham than Peterborough, but maybe that's just because Peterborough were so horrible.

He used 4-4-2 a lot more than 4-4-1-1 at lyn, and based on results it looks like he won more games with 4-4-2. From what I could tell when i did some research on his career at Lillestrøm it lokked like he played 4-4-1-1 vs the better teams in the league, but it could have been a coincidence and perhaps injuries or suspension were the reason.

I guess he will adapt to what we have in our squad. Currently we only have Rhodes and Gomes ready as natural strikers as best is injured and goodwillie can't play until January, bit i also think he really likes what rochina brings to the table and Want to mold him into how he wants him to play.

I didn't watch much norwegian football Between 2006-2007 but his first season at lyn they played a bit like rovers did when hughes was in charge. Maybe we will see something like that if we go up

Andy Todd was a short-arse...he was player of the year twice at Rovers. Dann wanted to know that Samba was staying to check our aspirations, I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with needing a tall centre-back next to him. Out of all of the defenders we miss the most I'd say it's Jones, I thought he was world class. Samba on the other hand was only average and his positional sense when getting moved around wasn't all that good (I'm sure many will disagree) he flattered to deceive because he defended the front post very well when crosses came in and made loads of clearances from this area.

I'm one! I suggest you ask a few Premier league strikers for their opinion on Samba's ability... yours is obviously flawed. He was immense for us in more ways than one and chipped in frequently at the other end too! Just as an aside could you tell me why he is currently reported to be earning £125k per week?

I find it unusual that somebody would say Samba wasn't as good as Southgate.

Or glassback Woodgate!!

Samba was a rock and an on field inspiration for us for some time. Unfortunately, like N'Zonzi, he had become a regular off field pain in the arse as well.

His departure was pretty much inevitable sooner rather than later. He chose the war torn Caucausus, racist abuse and oodles of cash. Good luck to him I suppose.

I know they had contracts but who tf could blame them? They along with others obviously respected Allardyce and found it impossible to work with Billy Liar. How anybody who was glad to be shot of the hated Kean yet criticise players for leaving is just double standards. Every 'proper man' in the squad who stood up to Kean's wicked tenure was disposed of whilst only the poor players and the rubber dinghy men stayed...... is it any bloody wonder that we folded so badly in last seasons relegation battle?

He could be exactly what the club needs to keep the momentum going (providing we have some momentum come Jan/Feb). I wonder if he'll play Rhodes and Best or one or the other. It'll certainly be useful to stop Rhodes burning out come the end of the season.

As I predicted earlier, Joshua King, Norwegian ManU striker (played 5 mins yesterday vs Galatasaray yesterday) is very close to sign a loan deal with us, according to TV2.no

http://www.tv2.no/sp...rn-3930001.html

As a player he is very strong, good pace, played a few internationals for Norway lately. Talented player, and a bit different from our other options.

Is this a reliable news source? Obviously the kids Norwegian so they may know a thing or two, but every country has their good and bad media and I've no idea which is which overseas.

How would people see him being used? Shame he's now cup tied for the champs league, oh wait we didn't qualify yet.

Amazing how many pains in the arse we had when Kean was manager! Funny thing is, once they'd all been isolated and omitted----------we were relegated!

Well, it's Bergs former work place, so I suppose they might have some inside knowledge...

TV2 is without a doubt the best source for football news (in norway). Especially Blackburn, they have worked with Henning Berg for a year now. I'd argue that with Henning Berg as Manager TV2 has more insight than most media in England.

Well, Henning Berg worked as a pundit in TV2, and they normally get these things right when it's "national matters"

It's reliable. It'll be a very stringent medical though as he has had quite a few injuries considering that he's just 20yrs old.

Henning Berg said that he visited Manchester United's training ground and spoke to Alex Ferguson and the backroom staff the day before he was confirmed as Blackburn Manager.

Norwegian TV2 has also asked him about Henning loaning Joshua King. Berg answered that he thought King was a good player, but that he had to look at the players in the Blackburn squad first.

Joshua King has recently been impressive for Norway as an international player, scoring a goal.
